This is why so many women voted Trump

I’m not saying it’s right, I’m not saying it’s worth the horrors of the Trump administration (and what other women’s rights will be abolished). However, I can also empathise. Books like this are everywhere in baby sections of bookshops in USA. My american friend is naturally more conservative than myself although hated Trump and didn’t vote for him previously (she abstained and then she went Biden although she says she seriously regrets) and this time she voted Trump. She said this stuff is now everywhere and it’s constant. She also showed me a baby’s ABC book which included B for bisexual (and literally then described it as people who are sexually attracted to either gender). For babies.

It's straight out of Black Mirror. I was always a 'leftie' and I started wondering what had changed. Had I just become right wing?

No. I haven't changed. It's just that self-identifying as a leftie now means swallowing this absolute horseshit. Meanwhile people can describe me as right wing or a Nazi or whatever the fuck they want but I'm staying here on Sanity Island thanks.

I share your friend's disgust.

RethinkingLife · 07/11/2024 22:18

I wonder if there are differences by state, sex, and age. I've seen several reports that young women in some states predominantly voted for Harris (around 70%).

I would be surprised if there were a single reason why large numbers of one sex voted for one candidate/political allegiance rather than another. I expect there is substantial nuance by sub-group analysis.

Circumferences · 07/11/2024 22:22

They did.

It's the woke bullshit that drives people to vote Trump. Given that he's the only alternative, people will vote for him despite his personal failings purely because voting Democrats will bring about more fucking lunacy.

Trump is also quite funny, which helps.

PermanentTemporary · 07/11/2024 22:24

I am going to bet that the number of people who actually switched votes from Democrat to Republican primarily because of this issue isn't zero but is tiny.

What it did do imo was shore up the Republican vote among a group who otherwise might have paid attention to some of the stream of bullshit that Captain Orange was pouring out and stayed at home.

A majority of white women voted for Trump imo because of high prices and high immigration, plus American white women don't seem that keen on the idea of a female president. The much smaller proportion of black women who voted for him probably the same. I don't think they will like the outcome but what do I know?

Fagled · 07/11/2024 22:26

It certainly switched my vote, I’m very thankful to the posters before me that opened my eyes. I live between the US and UK now, I’m very glad one country seems to be heading the right way.

Actually, if we're not sure we urgently perform all sorts of expensive tests to find out. The last baby I saw with concerns about ambiguous genitalia was seen by a consultant in paediatric endocrinology within 24 hours.

This just shows how inaccurate it is. And yet the democrats are supposed to be the educated ones.

Yeah, except this has nothing to do about ambiguous genitalia.

But they like to pretend that it is.

hamstersarse · 07/11/2024 22:35

I’d have voted for Trump and the rejection of the idiocy around gender would be one of the reasons. No parent wants their children force fed that dangerous ideology,

What is strange though is I didn’t see Kamala be asked about it once, And I watched and listened to a lot on the election race,

Xiaoxiong · 07/11/2024 22:40

It didn't change my vote, but it sure takes the wind right out of people saying "Trump is a liar, he has normalised lying about the facts and how could anyone vote for that!!" when you know that

A) the Democrats were lying to the electorate for months about whether Biden was in a fit state to stand, and expecting people not to believe their own eyes, and

B) also expecting us to not just be tolerant of but actually participate and believe in the many lies required to buy into gender ideology, or be labeled a bigot.

Actually voting against "the woke bullshit" is massively high in swing voters who voted Trump rather than Harris. They don't care that he's a total moron. They just don't want anymore Leftie woke head fuckery like the stuff in that children's book.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 07/11/2024 22:42

The orange-faced monster aside, those books are horrifying. WTAF.

dottiehens · 07/11/2024 23:10

Shocking!!! 😮

bathofbeans · 07/11/2024 23:12

PortiasBiscuit · 07/11/2024 23:13

They voted for Trump because he had policies on immigrants and the economy, most people really don’t give this stuff headroom, I’m sorry!

justasking111 · 07/11/2024 23:19

Mother of god, that book is awful. All our family would have voted republican if one of us had seen this.

Please America sort out this woke crap and maybe the UK and Europe will finally wake up.

Nellieinthebarn · 07/11/2024 23:26

I have an American friend who said he voted Republican not because he liked Trump, but he hated him less than Harris.

FrequentlyAskedQuestion · 07/11/2024 23:27

But this isn’t a government information publication.

Gender ideology has blossomed under our Tory Gvt.

Books like this are buoyed up by cultural fervour.

State law may be very important in issues such as men in women’s prisons etc, but unless they introduce government censorship books such as this are purely down to parental choice, surely?

Unless peddled in school, I suppose.

Christinapple · 07/11/2024 23:29

Isn't Trump supposed to be the candidate that would be bad for women's rights? Some are talking about him here as if his views on trans people is somehow worth more than any other topic?

Outside of "TERF island" I really don't think many, a tiny insignificant number, are going to cast their votes based primarily on what the candidate thinks about trans people. Outside of a few dedicated communities like this one people just don't spend their time thinking about this as the user above said. If anything a lot of people would think it weird to make trans people their entire personality -there's at least a thread a month on here about users losing family and friends to this.

I would argue that they are interlinked, though. One of the most striking campaigning slogans in the campaign was the Republican "Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you". The implicit message there is that Trump would fight for what is of importance to the average voter rather then promoting social agendas which are of little benefit to most people. So, yes, the economy was the deciding factor, but the fact that the Democrats were seen as weak on this in their campaigning was undoubtedly important.

It's more that whilst being gutted that women's rights are being trashed, there is a glimmer of a silver lining in that more US gay and autistic children may receive some protection from having the gay transed away.

Bunny44 · 07/11/2024 23:46

As much as I don't like those books or the thought of how much they could confuse my child, the fear of what Trump is and represents is 100 times scarier... I am literally amazed anyone would vote for him let alone women (polls still said 54% women voted for Harris though).

Do you want to be grabbed by the vagina? Because apparently thats what he thinks we want. He repulses me. How can you vote for a criminal who is such a nasty bully and obviously a bad person. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and has displayed that over and over. Everything he does and says is representative of the fact that he has a narcissistic personality disorder.

I'd be much more worried about the impact of the bigotry, misogyny and racism he spouts and the hate he teaches. Even more scary is his attitude towards climate change and international relations. Utterly appalling individual who is going to have an actual negative impact on all our children's future.
