Oliver Brown has written another excellent, thorough article for the Telegraph

https://archive.ph/A3hOz

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/boxing/2024/11/06/imane-khelif-gender-eligibility-test-failure-iba-chief/

“It was a chromosome test, to check for XX or XY, and these two boxers didn’t meet the eligibility criteria, because they both fell into the XY category,” Chris Roberts, the IBA chief executive

IBA chief issues staunch defence over Imane Khelif’s gender eligibility test failures

Exclusive: Chief executive lambastes IOC for duty of care failure to boxers who fought Algerian and Lin Yu-ting after XY chromosome detected

That's Amy Broadhurst in the middle - she's the boxer who described in an interview - unrelated to the Khélif affair - that she tried to step up a weight category, but just put on weight not muscle, and lost strength and condition.
[I gave the full reference for the interview with AB in the discussion during the Olympics, sorry I don't have it to hand.]

At the same time, IK was stepping up a weight category, putting on a couple of kilos of muscle, thanks to having gone through a male puberty.

So AB was able to beat IK version 2022, but IK v.2024 is a different, and more dangerous proposition.

duc748 · 07/11/2024 01:11

That's interesting about AB, but am I missing something, surely there's nothing new in the Telegraph piece? It's no more than, the IBA reiterates what it said before.

lcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2024 10:59

@Duc748 I agree there's nothing new but it's a good summary of everything that's happened to date and it clarifies that the IBA tested for chromosomes not just testosterone levels. Khelif, and Lin, both had the Y. As in boY.

Interesting further impact of the proof that Khelif is male. The Greens suspended Shahrar Ali for a while for saying Khelif was male. Ali was let back in because they bungled the process. He now can take them to court with medical proof he was telling the truth.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5196625-green-party-reinstates-shahrar-ali-after-bungling-the-expulsion?

And I hope he does!

Chersfrozenface · 07/11/2024 16:38

On what exact grounds did the Greens suspend Shahrar Ali for saying Khelif was male?

Was it on the grounds that what he said was untrue? Or that it was contrary to Green Party rules?

Can an organisation have rules that forbid members saying particular things even if they are true and can be proved to be true? And the sanction for breaking that rule being suspension or expulsion?

Also, what would the standing in a court or tribunal be of a media story about what a journalist says he saw in a report which has not officially been released by the commissioners or the subject?

I'm just wondering about the practicalities.

That's interesting about AB, but am I missing something, surely there's nothing new in the Telegraph piece? It's no more than, the IBA reiterates what it said before.

What's new are the direct quotes from Chris Roberts, the IBA chief executive.

I think that because of confidentiality issues, the IBA previously had only said something vague about Khelif and the other boxer failing sex tests, but in this article they say exactly what they were:

“It was a chromosome test, to check for XX or XY, and these two boxers didn’t meet the eligibility criteria, because they both fell into the XY category,”

This is one of the earlier articles, and it's not clear at all what tests were carried out or what the results were.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2024/08/03/boxing-gender-dispute-imane-khelif-lin-yu-ting-iba-ioc/

Mark Adams [IOC] has also grown increasingly emboldened in moving to undermine the IBA’s gender tests on Lin and Khelif in his daily press conferences.

“We have no knowledge of what the tests were,” he said on Friday. “They were cobbled together, as I understand, overnight. There was a change in the results so we don’t want to go there. I think if you start working on suspicions, then we’re in trouble.”

IBA comes out swinging for IOC: Inside the toxic dispute causing Olympic boxing’s gender row

Only in Paris and Tokyo has boxing been organised by the IOC, which is, in part, why the sport is facing an existential threat at LA 2028

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2024/08/03/boxing-gender-dispute-imane-khelif-lin-yu-ting-iba-ioc

ChateauMargaux · 07/11/2024 17:37

IBA claims to be the sole worldwide governing body for the sport of boxing in all its forms - but I see that might not be the full story.. and their rules updated in March 2024 state:

Women/Female/Girl” means an individual with chromosome XX. For this purpose, the Boxers can be submitted to a random and/or targeted gender test to confirm the above, which will serve for the gender eligibility criteria for the IBA Competitions.
https://www.iba.sport/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/20240303-IBA-Technical-Competition-Rules-v7-clean.pdf

This is the only set of guidelines that I have seen that states this clearly, unambiguously, without reservation.

I wonder where or how IK will compete?

PriOn1 · 07/11/2024 22:58

From the article above:

“The ferocity of the row shows no sign of relenting. The Algerian Olympic Committee has this week criticised the “ongoing and baseless attacks” on Khelif in the wake of a leaked medical assessment, published in France, that again purports to show the boxer is XY. “These attacks aim to tarnish the image of an athlete who has brought honour to our nation on the international stage. We firmly condemn these attempts at destabilisation, which have no place in the world of sports.” The IOC has expressed similar sentiments.”

They misspelled the word dishonour.

He shall sue!

That'll be interesting.

"I am a woman."

Ah, please have a chromosome test to establish the veracity of that.

"My passport says female. I've got a women's gold medal from the Olympics."

Hmm, OK, but we need to do a scientific test to check whether that's right.

"Waaah!"

duc748 · 11/11/2024 00:59

Caster Semenya seems to have got away with it so far without any great quibble.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2024 01:24

@eatfigs I think they are maybe referring to this that I posted on the AIBU threat about Khelif (English translation available on site)

It seems that The Correspondent are taking legal action against Khelif as a result of his lawyers described their investigation as fake news

Nice to see Real Billy Bragg taking an interest!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2024 14:21

Brilliant. The journalist sounds great, I recommend reading the interview I linked, there is a translation button on the page.

This is indeed a new development!

SinnerBoy · 11/11/2024 14:42

Well, this is interesting, because it seems likely that he'll be forced to have a sex test, or lose by default. A clever move by The Correspondent!

Very.

I wonder if they'd consider suing for defamation under English law? The fake news thing has been read by people in England, and I understand this is considered one of the more favourable jurisdictions for claimants.

Oooh

🍿

kiterunning · 11/11/2024 18:37

Can't wait for this!
Lose lose for IK.

Check out the Ali thread I linked to above for details. As you might suspect it was daft to start off with now looking worse and worse with the French journalists planning to sue Khelif to expose the truth.

Reduxx posted this statement today:

https://x.com/ReduxxMag/status/1856013196638793770

'OH NO! Last week, some rabid trans activists organized a mass-report campaign to have REDUXX banned on Patreon, and, unfortunately, Patreon bent the knee.
With that, we lost the primary source of recurring monthly donations we had.

Unfortunately, THIS MEANS WE WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN... is what they'd like us to say. But sucks to be them. ®

Ultimately, we would do this work if we had not one penny coming in. So trying to get us booted off of every platform with the intention of shutting us up is a fruitless endeavor. We are here to expose gender ideology's impact on women and children, and nothing short of the whole team dying in an unfortunate mass hot air balloon incident will stop us from doing what we are doing.

In the interim, if you'd like to continue to support the work we do, please visit REDUXX.INFO/SUPPORT for other ways of throwing a tip in our hat.

We love ya.
RXX Team'

Bloody hell, is that legal? Either way, it's expensive, I guess.
