There are four major boxing organisations - World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

I don't know what policies the above have on routine sex testing.

Then there's the national organisations. USA Boxing is happy to allow biological men who identify as women to compete against women - and vice versa, as seen with Manuel.

The International Boxing Association (IBA) of course did disqualify Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif, though only, I believe, after complaints, so doesn't seem to have routine sex testing, but anyway is concerned with amateur boxing.

For completeness, also in the Times

Much the same, long quote from the IOC which condemns abuse (fair enough) but, to me, reads like they're preparing their excuses. Particularly the long list of other organisations that followed the same eligibility rules.

there doesn't seem to be any suggestion there that the claims aren't true, really just that the it's wrong for the information to be shared because [reasons].

Projectme · 06/11/2024 13:17

Colour me surprised Sherlock.

I'm so pleased that there are some journalists out there determined to get to the truth of the matter and have it published.

IOC are fully to blame for this farce. Medals should be stripped immediately and he should be banned from entering any Olympics again.

Thanks for the link to the Cluster F podcast. The Rutherford episode was - taken in isolation - quite good. But added to the knowledge that he closes his eyes so firmly to his own bias (despite mentioning several times that he is priviledged because of his sex), it is infuriating. His cognitive dissonance must be off the scale.

This suggests it's more cowardice than cognitive dissonance:

Hmm, for some reason the screenshot didn't attach. Will try again here.

It's a grim state of affairs when a scientist decides to pretend to believe in a piece of complete nonsense for the sake of his career rather than stand up for science and reality. He clearly has no sense of shame.

This is a wrinkle I hadn't thought of

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/athletics/2024/11/06/donald-trump-olympics-collision-course-transgender-ban-vow/

It won't affect Khelif I imagine. I doubt he'll be competing in the next games. Then, of course, Trump seems quite lazy, would he put the work in to make California and the IOC comply? Or will the IOC blink first?

Sorry, if this is a bit of a derail but I didn't want to start another Trump thread.

Donald Trump and Olympics on collision course over transgender ban vow

A key plank of Trump’s successful re-election campaign was promise to ‘keep men out of women’s sports’

Asked “how do you stop it? Do you go to the sports leagues? Do you go to the Olympics?”, he replied: “You just ban it. The president bans it. You just don’t let it happen.”

Oooh! This could get interesting!

A pissing contest between the IOC and President Trump?

He's never had a particularly firm grasp on what Presidential powers cover, and with the mess of federal and state laws over there I have no idea how it might play out.

But certainly could be interesting.

Scared of the menz in tights then.

Plasmodesmata · 06/11/2024 19:34

Not sure how you can take legal action against something true. Maybe there is an argument that the report should have been confidential?

duc748 · 06/11/2024 19:43

That BBC item is hardly anything more than a re-hash of what was said at the time. Who will IK take legal action against? Le Correspondant, presumably? Not heard anything more about these 'ongoing' (says the Graun) legal battles, though. I'm sure JKR and the rest aren't quaking in their boots.

SoiledMyselfDuringSomeTurbulence · 06/11/2024 19:59

Interesting that there's no mention of the jurisdiction where IK supposedly intends to take action. It might not be France, since the Le Correspondant article will have been read in any number of countries and through multiple platforms.

Snowypeaks · 06/11/2024 20:00

I think it's all bluster.

Snowypeaks · 06/11/2024 20:00

I think it's all bluster.

That was my first thought, but I can't rule out the possibility that there might be some jurisdiction that would be favourable to IK.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/11/2024 22:17

JKR, Elon and Trump don't exactly appear to be quaking in their boots over these legal threats. Probably the one most at risk of any repercussions is JKR, being in Scotland with their hate crime law.

Datun · 06/11/2024 23:25

He might be able to sue over the leaking of the documents.

But any legal action is just going to produce more sunlight.

Motorina · 06/11/2024 23:28

Plasmodesmata · 06/11/2024 19:32

Surprise surprise, no mention at all that the leaked information is a medical report demonstrating conclusively she’s a chap inside.
