Trans woman murdered in Georgia, and an assault in England

https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/trans-model-killed-in-tbilisi-after-georgia-passes-law-imposing-lgbtq-restrictions/ar-AA1qTM6V

A trans woman was murdered in Georgia (the country), just after a "pro family" anti-LGBT bill was passed. The law bans same-sex marriage, gender-affirming treatments, pride books and events etc.

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/dangerous-far-teenagers-brutal-assault-171552704.html

In Swansea, England a trans girl was attacked in a park by a man "using marital art moves". It happened in May but has came to light now after his phone was searched by anti-terrorism officers. The attacker is far-right, glorifies acts of terrorism, is anti-immigration and yes homophobic and transphobic.

Any lessons to be learned from these 2 cases? Do anti-LGBT laws and over-indulgence to online far-right material result in violence and people being hurt or killed?

What an absolute and unmitigated doofus the OP is

I find their work strangely entertaining. Getting things so wrong is bordering on performance art

Just because someone trans is attacked it doesn't mean they were attacked because they were trans. Any murder is awful but 2 across Europe? Sounds lower than the non trans population to me.

SinnerBoy · 23/09/2024 15:09

In fact, it was one murder - not in Europe - and one assault, in Wales.

’But for some reason crimes are no longer of interest to mumsnet feminist board users/jk rowling unless a trans person is somehow involved?‘

Given that J.K. Rowling funded an entire rape crisis centre from her own money that’s a pretty silly thing to try to claim.

Abso-bloody-lutely.

JKR put her hand in her (admittedly deep pocket) and righted a terrible wrong all on her own by funding a rape crisis centre for women in Edinburgh. She also set up Lumos, an international children's charity. Her commitment to the wellbeing of women and children is second to none.

FWR board discusses the crimes and alleged crimes of men every damned day. I think our Apple-loving friend is willfully blind or obtuse.

Chris is really an own goal for himself. He continually fucks up and can't help tripping over himself and getting everything wrong. He doesn't even read the links he posts. Trans activists reading this thread (and his other offerings in FWR) must cringe in embarrassment. He makes them look bad. His fellow activists must feel like telling him to stfu, he is making them look really bad!

The bright side is his stumblings make more people wake up and see through the Gender Ideology cult. He's the gift that keeps giving. He's an asset to our side. Not his.

Her Strike books have also, from the start, included honest and well-informed depictions of violence against women and girls in its many different incarnations.

Chris doesn’t spend any serious time and brainpower here. It’s a sort of drive by scolding arrangement. Around the edges of his proper life he pops in to accuse and insult then hopefully gets on with something more productive somewhere else.
He just can’t let a day go by without a quick admonishment. Spare the rod and all that.

GladAllOver · 23/09/2024 16:57

There are many murders every day in the US.
They include minorities of all kinds - trans, foreign, Jews, Muslims, red haired, vegans...

Not the only one by any means.

Indeed. In Brazil something like 4-5000 women were killed in 2022ish (I forget the precise dates); however only 1400 odd were deemed to have been killed BECAUSE they were women under a new law placing femicide on the statute books in 2015. I reckon that’s probably an understatement myself, with women who were nonetheless victims of male violence excluded because of the ability to prove the motivation of their killers. But sometimes even women are murdered and their gender is not significant (bystander in drive by shooting, for example).

Knowing this, why should every death of a trans person be immediately attributed to the fact of their trans status? What makes them more special than a woman killed by her husband/BF in a relationship tiff where the relationship is predicated on their sexed selves?

Ironically, rather than undermine us, all he does is create threads in which GC women are able to have a discussion, find solidarity and strengthen their positions. Ironic, really, as it achieves the opposite of what is intended.

Yes, this is a frequent mistake people make where they compare all trans murders with the number of female murders designated as femicide.

And isn’t it the case that more transwomen are murderers than murderees?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/09/2024 19:12

In the U.K., yes.

BonfireLady · 23/09/2024 19:44

I had heard this too so did a Google. Here's your comment from an old thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womensrights/3942034-Stats-on-transwomen-murders-being-the-murderer?reply=97555285&utmcampaign=reply&utmmedium=share

Obviously it's out of date now but the ratio of suspect to victim is certainly interesting.

Is this also one of the lessons to be learned, OP?

Edited to add: I had intended to quote the comment above.

Funny, I could say the same about gender critical activists who would appear to relish at the opportunity to report back here or on twitter anytime a trans or trans-ally has been accused or suspected or something.

There are a tonne of men and some women who aren't trans (I'm not allowed to say the word for that on here for some reason) commit horrible crimes, many sexual and many against women and children every day. But for some reason crimes are no longer of interest to mumsnet feminist board users/jk rowling unless a trans person is somehow involved?

That last claim is pure bullshit. There is a constant stream of threads about VAW in general. It's probably just that you only bother to look at the ones which involve people who are trans. I could give you lots of links, but I doubt you'd read the threads.

I know it really isnt the focus of this thread but Ill never fail to be astonished at how anyone can decide Swansea is in England. So ridiculously ignorant it hurts my brain.

It's so revealing about this OP that they haven't even acknowledged the error, let alone apologised for it.

For all we know the day job is CEO of a rape crisis centre 🤷🏽‍♀️
