Two minutes of researching the context would tell you that they had no idea the placards were behind them and they were horrified when they saw the pic.

Also this is news from nearly 2 years ago.

What is the rush?
More research (than 2 mins) would show you that they were part of a demonstration which contained many such placards... that they walked past these earlier... and yet their horrified faces look to be happily smiling.

IW tweet below of three female murderers. Two of whom were accomplices, probably enthusiastic, to crimes mostly committed by men. For the third, Elizabeth Bathory, IW had to go back nearly 500 years. I suspect, on any given day I could find 3 male murderers in the morning papers.

oh this again, but a crayon/chalk drawing of a guillotine with some colourful lettering is hardly a credible threat is it? What are they going to do, drag a guillotine into the city centre and ask "TERFs" to step right up?

Want to talk about threats what about all the extreme-right racists and anti-LGBT people on online places like twitter (which has virtually no moderation now thanks to EM) and kiwifarms doxxing LGBT people and posting hate all day long and making outright violent threats?

Or how about the (cisgender) pastor who left a hidden camera in a church toilet? Or the cisgender man who molested children at church?

A lot of actual real issues Rowling could use her platform for, but it always has to be trans-related somehow.

It's almost as though things that happen in Michigan and Washington are of less immediate interest to Scottish women than things that happen in Scotland. Inexplicable, really.

Well, quite!

And in the same country, without having to scour Europe...

The thing I note from male posters is that they really don't know what it's like to navigate the world in a female body and how vulnerable that can make you.

She constantly amazes me. Way ahead of her detractors in every way.

(what is "nitter"? my VPN and my Firewall both say "do not enter, unsafe")

JKR is pretty vocal about what's happening to women in Iran. I haven't noticed a trans aspect to that. Iran, of course, is noted for giving gay men a choice between execution and castration, which is hardly LBGTQ+ friendly.

I'm struggling to think of any situation where a politician would think it's OK, maybe even quite funny and good PR, to stand in front of a sign suggesting that anybody should be decapitated. What makes it OK to suggest this for women who want women's rights and spaces to be for females only?

DialSquare · 18/09/2024 14:32

Let me know what evidence you need, I have 2 degrees and several patents to my name. I also sold my first company at 18 and now employ 23 staff across two businesses and a non-profit that funds women's shelters and phone support for women in abusive relationships.

So you admit to being a JK hater?

Not just vocal she put her money where her mouth is
https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/harry-potter-author-jk-rowling-helped-afghan-lawyers-flee-the-taliban/
'Kennedy, a director of the Institute of Human Rights for the International Bar Association, said: “Two years ago, two women judges in Kabul’s Supreme Court were assassinated – that really terrified all the women judges.
“Then in August of that year, when there was the military evacuation from Afghanistan, I started receiving desperate phone calls from women judges hiding in their basements.
“Taliban had been released from prison and were coming after these women, some of whom had jailed them for domestic violence and other crimes. It was clear they were high on the list of those at risk of being killed.”
Kennedy found that chartering a plane out of Afghanistan would cost £650,000 a trip. They then had to be accommodated in Athens – chosen because Greece’s president had been a female judge – while they sought asylum worldwide. A total of £4million was needed.
Kennedy said: “JK Rowling just said: ‘I want to help these women’. She gave me hundreds of thousands of pounds to pay for hostel accommodation and people’s living expenses.”
Of the 508 rescued, around 60 are now living in Britain, according to Kennedy.'

Harry Potter author JK Rowling helped Afghan lawyers flee the Taliban

JK Rowling secretly donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to save women lawyers as the Taliban swept back to power, it has emerged.

afaik in Iran gay men have the chance to literally trans away their gay. I'm sure I've read that they are very experienced in gender reassignment surgery. Which is utterly horrific. (as is the way they treat women)

Absolutely. ERCC refused to even mention the existence of Beira's Place to women who indicated that they needed a service that was single sex. Because they refused to even signpost survivors to a service which didn't fit their ideology, even if it was what that survivor required.

And Beira's Place don't receive any funding above and beyond what JKR funds. The existence of a service offering something that ERCC refused to provide didn't affect ERCC's funding - it didn't reduce the funding they receive from the Scottish Government. They just objected to its existence.

ERCC refused to even mention the existence of Beira's Place to women who indicated that they needed a service that was single sex.

The SLACK communications revealed that some staff at ERCC considered the opening of the new centre to help rape survivors 'really terrible news' and invited others to get together to 'rage' about it.

I still can't get over it, how spitefully ERCC behaved. So blinded by their own bigotry they couldn't see that it wasn't JK Rowling that they were hurting by not signposting women to Beira's Place, but the rape survivors they were supposed to care about and support.

@Christinapple the man holding that sign was subsequently found guilty of drugging, raping and murdering a young father.
So it seems like carrying a sign like that is a fairly good indication of a potential credible threat of violence

I believe the choice for gay men is execution or transition - castration may be part of transition if the authorities insist on full GRS, but it's a distinction worth making. Homophobic in the extreme but arguably pro-trans.

TWETMIRF · 18/09/2024 15:14

Yes, Iran is very happy to have trans people. Better a straight woman than a gay man after all!

I am sure that Christinapple and co want to shine a light on how good human rights are in Iran and that it should be a country that all other countries aspire to copy.

Also this is news from nearly 2 years ago.

Horrified to be caught out, you mean.

Doubtless they joined in without bothering to check what hateful signs the protesters were holding up as transactivists have a free pass to make threats against women and do so with such frequency that it’s no longer remarkable.

I genuinely think there is selective blindness about the constant hatred transactivists have for women who support women’s rights.

And that hatred is closely aligned with intense projection as they falsely claim, over and over, that women who want men out of their spaces hate “trans people”.
