but if it didn't say "TERFs" on it JK Rowling wouldn't be posting about either of them.

And if this thread didn't say JKR on it, you wouldn't be posting about how threats of violence to women are OK and not to be commented on. But it does, and you are. Again.

itsmylife7 · 18/09/2024 11:37

JKR is 🔥
I'd love a night in the pub with her.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 11:39

I've seen a picture of the route they went to go up steps to where they were pictured. Not particularly believable that they didn't clock the sign.

The sign was created in a sign making workshop beforehand. Apparently no one saw a problem with it.

Two minutes of researching the context would tell you that they had no idea the placards were behind them and they were horrified when they saw the pic.

Also this is news from nearly 2 years ago.

The picture is. The quote from the Minister for Equalities is not.

Someone with two degrees, patents, staff, can keep plants alive, has been involved in a space shuttle launch and is aware of other news outlets that no one else is aware of should've known that. It's clear why JKR posted it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 11:45

It's a shocking idea that websites and sources outside of Mumsnet exist, I know, but I promise you they're out there.

Share a link then "proving" that they didn't see it which is based on more than them denying it 🤷‍♀️ because I don't find it particularly credible.

Yes, the photo you're referring to (the one on the steps?) makes it very obvious that the claims of 'we didn't see the sign(s) calling for women to be decapitated!' are not at all credible.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 11:46

Is Cameron Allan trans @Christinapple? It doesn't mention that in any of the news articles about him.

There's a fetching picture of him in drag.

Waitwhat23 · 18/09/2024 11:53

It's also worth pointing out that the only single sex rape crisis services in Edinburgh and the Lothians over (at least) the last two years has been as a result of JKR setting up (and completely funding) Beira's Place.

The recent scathing independent review of ERCC makes it clear that they have, and continue to, fail survivors. The Scottish Government (including Stewart) continue to deny and avoid any responsibility for their part in that which is why questions have been raised in the chamber this week.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 11:55

Violent threats against women are hardly unusual for trans rights activists and I imagine for these two gormless MSPs they didn't particularly stand out.

It should be that it's an absolute humiliation to Scotland but that for the much death-threated, shunned and bad-mouthed JKR, women in Edinburgh who needed female-only provision would have been without services.

Sadly many of those busy being highly cagey, are mostly trying to disguise their view that they'd really rather women survivors went unsupported at all than were permitted to resist being resources used by a particular group of politically quite staggeringly misogynistic, unkind and self interested people. Their actions reflected it. They still believe it.

They're just a bit shy about telling the general public, which suggests they have some lingering self awareness. Even if not enough to think a bit before standing beaming under a sign advocating killing British women for declining to be used by men.

Also this is news from nearly 2 years ago.

This would work if these were the only placards at the demonstration, ie there were no other placards at all within fifty feet and it was extremely unfortunate that the two politicians accidentally stood in front of the only placards and smiled for the camera.

Zebedee999 · 18/09/2024 12:32

"Decapitate Terfs" hmmm. There were far right types imprisoned for 3-5 years recently for saying similar things related to immigrants.

Have these people holding these signs also been imprisoned immediately? Or are they still on the streets as another example of Labour's two tier justice? Or is it that the immigrants are largely men and the "decapitate terfs" victims would be largely women?

In Labour's justice: immigrants lives matter but women's don't.

They had no idea of the massive, colorfull placard behind them while taking a selfie with a front facing camera which would have shone them exactly what they were taking a picture off? And they didn't look at the picture they selected to post?

I guess they were trying to post a picture of a cat and accidently selected this one from the gallery.

Sure, happens to the "best" of us.

To be fair to Labour I’m not sure what they can do about this because the sign was held before they were elected and it’s Scotland, but I take your general point.

I LOVE HER! She's like Arnie here

CocoapuffPuff · 18/09/2024 12:47

I'll not blame Labour for this - it's SNP all the way. And very little has changed beyond a few of them losing their seats.

I'm not a Tory voter but I believe Boris/Sunak both stated what a woman was, whereas Starmer avoids the issue or says a woman can have a penis. Labour have consistently condoned all these anti women gender policies over many years now, albeit SNP was even worse.

Absolutely. ERCC refused to even mention the existence of Beira's Place to women who indicated that they needed a service that was single sex. Because they refused to even signpost survivors to a service which didn't fit their ideology, even if it was what that survivor required.

And Beira's Place don't receive any funding above and beyond what JKR funds. The existence of a service offering something that ERCC refused to provide didn't affect ERCC's funding - it didn't reduce the funding they receive from the Scottish Government. They just objected to its existence.
