Trans activists monitoring mumsnet

A particularly diligent trans identified male transactivist says there is a network monitoring “far right” activity on here.

which might explain why some
posters get suspended for saying things that some people find challenging to hear.

I’d like to keep hearing from TinselAngel. How do we protect her freedom of speech, expression, and you could probably argue association, from being limited by people who are known to harass women IRL?

FWR goes through periods where we lose lots of excellent posters. We mourn the fallen and hope for new posters to join and keep passing the flame.

Has Tinsel been banned? The one that was the saddest was the poster who worked in safeguarding (can’t remember their MN name) and knew a lot about grooming tactics. I found her posts so illuminating.

No I've not been banned. I was suspended for telling Fred to F off, and then I had to agree to adhere to talk guidelines to be let back in,

It's all a bit triggering as I've had my speech restricted on this issue before.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 08/09/2024 12:35

I think I saw her on Twitter say that she's been suspended on MN

seriously?

oh for fucks sake 😒

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/09/2024 12:37

She posted just before you @RufustheFactualReindeer Grin thankfully she's still with us.

I don't think anyone has mentioned some important points.

Monitoring Mumsnet - hate reading Mumsnet, has two BIG impacts:

1 - Every view makes Mumsnet MONEY. Even if you never click an ad link the more views Mumsnet gets the more popular the site is, the more cash it makes. That money allows Mumsnet to ignore TAs and allow women to discuss things fairly openly. It means a lot of companies want access to the Mumsnet ad market which again gives the site more power.

2 - Mumsnet posts appear high on search engines. Because LOTS of people read them. The more clicks a site gets the higher a post will go up. Google a topic about the gender wars you will often see a Mumsnet post near the top. That is because of a lot of people read the site posts which include a lot of hate readers. Some haters even post on threads. Which makes threads even more popular and makes it MORE likely someone searching the topic will see Mumsnet discussions.

So like GLP's bad legal skills resulting in wins for gender realists the Mumsnet haters are making Mumsnet gender crits STRONGER and more influential.

Yes there are restrictions on Mumsnet, but put that aside that to consider the POWER mumsnet has. TAs have hilariously have helped give Mumsnet that power. Like their attempts to cancel JKR gave stuff she does publicity so everyone hears what she says and making her merchandise more popular. Going round saying a site where a lot of women talk to each other is EVIL actually backfires.

So besides the way TA trolls strengthen debate on Mumsnet... mainly by angering women so they peak even harder as others on this thread have said. They are also making the site more MONEY and making our posts more popular online.

Thanks haters. Women could not have done this without you. Like all the other stuff TAs do to silence women - it has only backfired in the UK anyway.

I can imagine Flowers also been on the naughty step here before so can sympathise.

DeanElderberry · 08/09/2024 12:39

It's a variant on Claudia Roden's orange and almond cake which she first published in 1968, so 70s sounds probable.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 08/09/2024 12:39

circumspect wrt Talk Guidelines

MNHQ need to let people know what the guidelines are…not in the spirit makes no fucking sense 🤔

i got deleted for saying ‘seriously MNHQ 😀😀😀’ following one of my posts being deleted (i was being snide 😀 in my original post but since when was snide deletable?)

Dear Freda,

I am in my 50s and have been a feminist all my life. I have always voted Labour since 1992 and I always vote for a progressive candidate in every election. I am pro-choice, anti-death penalty, anti-racist, pro-gun control, etc etc

I don't hate trans people and I am not even near right, let alone far right.

But I saw 6ft 4" tall Lia Thomas compete against women in the US swimming competition. That is men taking women's stuff. It is what I have fought against most of my life.

And it sets a precedent. What else can men who say they are women take from women? Women only shortlists? Women only domestic violence refuges? Prizes, scholarships, physical safety?

Trans people need to accept that their demands for "inclusion " conflict with women's needs for safety and privacy. We need to talk about how this is managed for everyone's benefit. Calling leftwing feminists far right doesn't help. Stop fighting and start engaging.

This exactly!👏👏

VaddaABeetch · 08/09/2024 11:59

Although having met Fred little is not an adjective I’d use. I did think a Christmas gift of soap could be useful.

But surely, how you identify doesn’t have to be something grounded in reality? I thought that was the whole point of identifying, you don’t actually have to do anything to make the identity identifiable to anyone else. It is about your feelingz and what you tell other people you are. For example I am five foot eight with perfect teeth, a twenty three inch waist , I can hear a pin drop at twenty metres and I speak five languages fluently. And if you say any different you will be causing me actual physical pain.

Igmum · 08/09/2024 13:17

@CautiousLurker please stay. We need you. We have 🍰 and Gin [attempts to look enticing]

Flounce alert: Had an innocuous post on another thread deleted and decided that, perhaps, after all this is not the forum for me. Free speech really doesn’t exist here, does it?

Think I will delete my account later today. Have enjoyed engaging here for the most part as I have few people to discuss and learn new things for, but think I will have to find another way to connect with my ‘community’ of gender realist feminists. Will start with actually meeting up with my local WRN members. Would have liked to join a local political party, but I am currently homeless as a person who flipflops either side of the central line.

Bit fed up, really.

I think all of us feel like this at times on MN. I've had 'a bit of a week' in terms of it as it goes.

But I refuse to leave by being forced out on principle. Because despite all the shit, I'm stubborn and don't want to let others win.

Have a chill, a recharge and then start over here with a clear head.

You are wanted here. You are needed.

VaddaABeetch · 08/09/2024 13:27

Don’t you oppress me with your superior identity, my internal feels trump yours so there

Think I’m going to have that social media break, as suggested by several here. So just a temporary pouty flounce. May still slam the door on the way out and stomp up the stairs to make sure it’s noted, though.

Am peeved by the lack of consistency and the fact that people can be vile and abusive but not be deleted, but other pretty innocuous comments (simply based on who you are, I think, wrt to targeted reporting) can be removed.

Both kids starting tech college in a few days and I should probably get on and register for my final PhD year (been having a wobble/AuDHD meltdown-cum-burnout for the entirety of the summer and very nearly bailed 🤯). Will go off and do real life stuff for a week and pop back in on the MiL and cake threads when I’ve stopped raging/sulking…

CautiousLurker · 08/09/2024 13:38

PS having a gin cocktail and DD making rainbow cookies (refs smarties not flags). DH and DS off at the cricket (in the rain 🤣), puppy limping again having had both dogs at vet this week for paw related issues that seemed to subside after a 30min wait and a £40-70 vet bill each time (plus its a different paw/leg this time 🤦🏽‍♀️). And I do NOT want to do the fucking ironing. Mainly as I can’t find a box set to watch while I do it…

cue: more stomping and pouting.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 08/09/2024 13:39

cautious

come back soon 💐 😩

ArabellaScott · 08/09/2024 13:41

Sometimes a good huff is just the ticket.

So long as you promise to come back, Lurker: leave granted, one week, worst behaviour only.

<gavel>

CautiousLurker · 08/09/2024 14:20

So, #notabot (hid the washing up before I took the photo)… is it an autistic trait that my DD separated out the smarties by colour before decorating, or that I prefer orange ones, so have already decided which cookie I am having when it cools?

I don't know if it's an autistic trait, looks like art to me.

Enjoy a break, and a cookie (actual pain from typing that instead of biscuit 🙃), and <squints> gin!

I think I'm going to be awol for a few days too.

ArabellaScott · 08/09/2024 15:03

Yeah, me too.

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2024 15:07

Well I would have done it by colour in some way. Cos colour is fun.
