4 wide eyed innocent questions for GC women

KielderWater · 28/08/2024 15:12

  1. Do you believe all GC women agree that northern women make the best Yorkshire pudding batter due to their aggression?
  2. I know a left wing woman who thinks the milk should go in before the tea, is this abhorrent behaviour a left wing thing and will you disassociate yourself from the left because of it?
  3. Brambles mostly reproduce asexually. How many subspecies do you think there are?
  4. Is my husband gender nonconformist because he hung up the washing? Should I be worried he might start keeping track of the family’s birthdays next?

Happy to answer your questions too.

Yorkies - I hate them so they're all boufing. Not sorry either.

Tea - brewed in mug cos I'm a scottish heathen.

Brambles - jaggy feckers with fruit of dreams. Spiteful berries, they're called in this house.

Laundry - don't care how dh pegs it out as long as he uses a hundred pegs per item. Combination of East Coast winds and 3 cats who love to swing on the hanging bedding makes this non negotiable.

Chips - my favoured topping varies. Melted cheese and crispy bacon with tomato sauce is making me hungry right now I WANT CHEESY CHIPS!!!!!! Also beeeeg fan of malt vinegar and enough salt to give me a stroke. Then there's mayo....mmmmm. And pickled red cabbage. I'm an equal opportunities employer when it comes to chips.

That's how my granny made it.

My mum always recounts with horror how in her first job she watched the lady who made the tea throw the tea leaves into a big pot with cold water and then bring it to the boil on the stove - it would then simmer all day, topping up with more water as needed!

Oh wow I've just had a huge Proustian* flashback to my granny having a pot of tea 'on the boil' all day! I think we were ashamed of it as it was linked to not having enough money to buy tea for a fresh pot every time, and I blanked it out of my memory. Until now.
We called it 'boil-o'.

*Literary note: alas no, granny didn't give us Madeleines with our boil-oGrin

  1. Do you believe all GC women agree that northern women make the best Yorkshire pudding batter due to their aggression? Totally, 100% the more aggression the better the batter.
  2. I know a left wing woman who thinks the milk should go in before the tea, is this abhorrent behaviour a left wing thing and will you disassociate yourself from the left because of it? That woman should be shunned for all of eternity AND I'm cancelling my Labour Membership as soon as I've finished typing
  3. Brambles mostly reproduce asexually. How many subspecies do you think there are? 57986 and 34 still be categorised.
  4. Is my husband gender nonconformist because he hung up the washing? Should I be worried he might start keeping track of the family’s birthdays next? Depends, does he shake out the creases properly before hanging it up? And why isn't he already doing the birthday sorting? At least for his side of the family?

(Also t shirts - really good shake then stick on a hanger and peg the hanger on the line. I don't like different coloured pegs on the same items , towels always get tumble dried, Yorkshire Tea is the one true tea and chippy gravy, the stuff they just add water to that comes in massive tubs on chippy chips, mayonnaise or tomato sauce on takeaway fries, magi's on chips made at home).

Still can't get over the fact you admit publicly to knowing someone who puts the milk in first!!

I quite like stodgy Yorkshires, it's how my mum used to make them in a 70s Pyrex casserole dish so we had a slice. Last time I made some they grew through the baking shelf above them. I totally underestimated how much they'd rise.

I don't take milk, I thankfully sidestep the whole issue.

I agree that pegs on the same item should match, although mind never do and I try not to think about it. T shirts in my house don't know what hangers are!

Gravy and mushy peas on chip shop chips, eaten with a wooden fork on the Blackpool seafront.

My southerner mum once made a Yorkshire pudding that shattered on impact but I identify as a scientist so I'd like to see a larger data set. She was quite aggressive and did throw it with some force, perhaps it was her Scottish ancestry.

I like a bit of sweet, cardamom chai but mostly I make minty hot chocolate in my velvetiser. 😁I think that makes me bourgousie so I doubt the left would have me.

Being a soft southerner I have a thornless blackberry, the fruit does not taste like proper blackberry, it smells strongly of maltose and gives a really good flavour to gin or vodka. I know nothing of their many varieties but I suspect they are all acceptable in alcohol.

Sometimes in despair dp does womanly housework because I'm on mumsnet, I allow myself a twinge of guilt. He has a tendency to leave clothes pegs on the line to go rusty so being a natural problem solver I bought some old fashioned dolly pegs for him us to use. ( bonus points for limiting my use of plastic)

I can't see the question about chips in the op, but depending on the mood and the crispiness I have mayonnaise, salt (no vinegar), actual curry (never curry sauce) and believe that most fried food is improved with a bit of sweet chilli sauce.

I will educate myself and try to do better. (And edit out typos)

Hmm, I've been pondering getting a thornless giant blackberry, but if they don't taste right, I may have to reconsider.

The other day, my daughter and I were blackberrying and one particular strand had an unusual taste. She said it was Dolly Mixture and by heck, she was right!

Dolly mixture vodka?

The squirrels and blackbirds like them if that's any recommendation. I suspect the fox has tried some too judging by the state of the doings left behind.

SinnerBoy · 03/09/2024 16:03

Dolly Mixture flavoured blackberries.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 03/09/2024 17:13

My thornless blackberry tastes like a normal attack blackberry.

EdithStourton · 03/09/2024 17:37

One of my friends puts the milk in first. She also makes tea likes gnat's pee so the overall effect is of milky hot water.

attack blackberry.
Spot on. I picked a blackberry with due care and attention while dog walking this afternoon and was safe ((I've just about recovered from my last bramble injury, which involved both a bruise and a puncture). I need to go and pick some to make blackberry gin...

She's not from Anglesey by any chance is she? I've never been given a cup of tea in Anglesey that has had more than a tea bag waved at it.

Nope.
the odd thing is that she drinks the tea I make with every sign of appreciation, although it's 10x stronger than the stuff she produces.

She's either incredibly polite or has no sense of smell and taste!

JanesLittleGirl · 03/09/2024 23:04

There is no universal perfect cup of tea. I start from the view that all tea is good tea but some is better than others. My personal favourite is 2 spoons of sugar, a Ceylon teabag and 4 fifths up to the top with boiling water. Leave for about 5 minutes then fish the teabag out and top up with ideal milk.

I wouldn't impose this on anybody else. It is just the way I like it.

I should really stop trying to skim read things, they're was a brief moment there when I was wondering what fish had to do with a cup of tea!

There are times when we are all talking at cross porpoises.

Hmm, don't mean to be koi, and I'll try not to carp on but surely that would only be true if we were posting slake recipes!
