I have never felt a punch like this’ – Carini

Words fail I'm so angry, but by god she is brave.
Personally I feel sick and 'triggered' it reminds me of the first time an ex punched me on the thigh, I couldnt get over how much it hurt or the enormous bruise from knee to hip. I know there is a general thread on this but its so important it deserves multiple threads. I hope Carinis decision to stop the fight so very publicly makes a difference.
Meanwhile Khelif crows “I am here for gold,” “I will fight anybody, I will fight them all.”
Not the REMOTEST hint of sportsmanlike conduct.
I vote we write to VIiner en masse and lay some responsibility at her feet.
Actually EVERY editor, The Indy NYT WAPO etc
I am incandescent

Totally agree. I watched Kellie Jay’s live screening on YouTube (after the event) and I cried. It was awful to watch, absolutely disgusting.

I watched it. Very upsetting. I'm even more upset by the number of people elsewhere on SM condoning this match.

It's absolute fucking disgusting. I'm so angry on her behalf. You are absolutely correct...this needs multiple threads. Shame on the IOC.

The Italian boxer did the right thing and abandoned the match. The more women that refuse to fight those with XY chromosomes or abandon matches within a minute the less able these people will be able to continue this farce.

LizzeyBenett · 01/08/2024 17:46

Why is it being allowed I just don't understand . They wouldn't let any other "male" in there to box with a women it's So dangerous. they are genetically a male and therefore stronger more muscular and it should never of been allowed. I just think they work has gone crazy like where does it end

True, though given its in the Worlds eye, it was safer to do.
For young girls in the US etc etc their careers and lives are being ruined death threats etc, outside the spotlight.

I hope Carinis decision to stop the fight so very publicly makes a difference.

I'd like to think so. But it won't happen while commentators like Bunce frame it as Carini being 'outclassed' (I paraphrase) and other commentators are vague about the details of the fight.

The IOC's media rules are being implemented beyond the letter of them to the point where they render Olympic spirit meaningless.

It's a global version of, "How many fingers am I holding up?"

It wont change untill enough people write phone etc the Media heads
They are the ones that control the narrative, always.
Use this brilliant website to access CEOs and in this instance editors of the papers who promoted this and give them a piece of your mind.
They pushed this, they championed this, they promoted this at the expense of women and they did not report on the impact.
This would not exist without their say so

Just a reminder that Carini is a brave, capable boxer, who has never been knocked out in her professional career up to today, so she can obviously take a punch in normal circumstances.

She's not a quitter who needs to train harder and toughen up, as is being implied, if not openly stated, elsewhere.
Her record is
84 wins, 4 by KO
23 defeats, 1 by KO
BoxRec: Angela Carini

When I quoted her record on another thread earlier, it said zero defeats by KO. Now that record has been taken away from her by today's mismatch.

I haven't seen the fight, but nobody has to participate in a 'sport' that basically consists of people hitting each other.

Maybe take less than a minute to do so and be appalled like every other woman should be.

I'm a woman who finds boxing barbaric. I don't think the participants are best placed to complain if it turns out to be more barbaric than they expected.

Nobody 'has to' take part in any sport. You can be injured in many different sports, but there are rules designed to minimise danger. One of those rules (i.e. men and women compete separately in boxing) was broken here. I don't like boxing either, but if people want to do it, the rules should be adhered to.

By that token why should anyone play any sport?
Why hit a ball over and back? Why swim? Why jump (gymnastics, athletics etc)?

So you don't think that competitors have the right to expect that safety rules are adhered to in official sporting competitions then? Or just boxing, because you disapprove if it? Rugby can cause really serious injuries. Do you think a female rugby player would 'not be best placed to complain' if she were badly injured by a man being allowed to play against her in a women's team?
