Do women in the U.K. know or care about the threat to women’s and girls rights now they’ve voted labour?

i know the tories record on public services are abysmal and bar some genuine believers like Kemi Badenoch the tories would likely go the trans route if they thought it would buy them votes. But, currently it’s the tories who offered to protect women and girls from the trans madness. My question is - which women voted in trans loving, women - hating Labour?

we can look forward to -

  1. continued gender ideology being pumped out in schools
  2. conversion ban - you better hope your child doesn’t start questioning their gender out loud because TRA ridden schools will be referring them to gender clinics and socially transitioning them now they have a mandate
  3. same sex attracted lesbians (myself included) it’s completely game over. Keep your head down and your mouth shut. Trans identified males and their female allies have already closed down every women only night. Same sex attracted women are now labelled bigots. We are no longer welcome in London’s LGBT soup community
  4. prisons - what happens to vulnerable women? They are already disbelieved and dismissed. Now they have to endure the staring and various forms of sexual harrassment that goes with being incarcerated with men

i can only hope our political landscape mirrors America and in the same way Trump will be voted back in this year, we will have The Tories being led by Kemi back in in 4 years time.

omg I can’t believe we have to kiss goodbye to women’s rights - for the next four years

back to my original question. Apart from TRA idealouges, why have women voted these clowns in? Is it that they prioritise the Tories terrible record on public services over this? Do some women not see it as a huge issue? would love to hear from some posters who voted Labour.

Thanks & stay safe out there, as women we have woken up to a a dark chapter in history today

I'm concerned about the rights of women to have access to single sex spaces.

But I think poverty, access to education and employment, access to healthcare, social care, childcare, violence and rape perpetrated by "cis" men, access to justice etc - are also issues very important to women on which they have been very badly failed by the Conservatives and are likely to do better under Labour.

Edited

This! I’m hoping for some better policies for healthcare, education etc all which will benefit women.

BeethovenNinth · 05/07/2024 07:41

I’m Scotland. We are desperate to kick the SNP out. I feel that we are peak Trans and I hope the party is watching carefully. I don’t like starmer but he isn’t stupid.

I would have voted labour had I been able but only as we ALL want the SNP gone

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 05/07/2024 07:41

I'm genuinely scared. Libs dems, labour and green gains means women are screwed! Though apparently record numbers of female MP's. So we have maybe hope they'll see sense and support women. But i know this isn't always the case.

I, like a lot of women i'm sure, am ready to protest in the streets and shout from the rooftops to protect the rights of me and my DD.

And as bad as it is, and i wouldn't say they're strong in the womens rights agenda, reform having some influence may help a little. Farage isn't exactly a quiet man. Their banning trans ideology in schools wasn't a bad policy idea. Hopefully that opinion follows through to parliament to stand up to the idiots who think any tom, dick and harry can be a woman.

allaboardtheplaybus · 05/07/2024 07:42

You're missing the point entirely.

Do you really not see the problem with self ID and the massive loophole it creates? That any predator can then use self ID to gain easy access to women/young girls/children?

Heylo · 05/07/2024 07:42

What are you eye rolling? Do you also think I shouldn’t be allowed to choose my own sexual partner to preserve the feelings of cross dressing men?

So I didn't actaully vote Labour - I voted for an independent candidate knowing full well they wouldn't get in.
At this stage I think we just needed a change.
There is a lot Labour stand for that I don't agree with, but the way forward for me was to get a change, and then lobby against the policies we don't like. Banning drag hunting is bonkers, prioritising trans rights over women's rights is ridiculous, and putting inheritance tax on farms is suicidal.
My dd is same sex attracted, and whilst I 100% support her, I worry for her.

Mumsnet is an echo chamber for the GC.

A poll carried out by The Rest is Politics found that this is a non-issue for voters.

I was about to say this. I'm in Scotland where we have been living under the hell of the SNP/Greens for years and years. The threat to women of Labour feels much more manageable.

DustyLee123 · 05/07/2024 07:44

As a woman with daughters I find this very worrying. Women need safe spaces.

Spendonsend · 05/07/2024 07:44

If you look at the percentage of votes rather than seats, it does look thst people lurching to reform lost conservative their seats rather than labour doing much better.

But on why vote labour. I think some people feel there is no point having a right to a single sex space that doesn't exist. They'd rather try their luck with a mixed sex hospital bed than no hospital bed.

Sorry, that was meant to be a reply to @DaisyCat33

I don’t have a Labour MP but if I did, I would be contacting them regularly whenever an issue on this arises. Individuals can surely try to get their voices heard (I know, listening and hearing is another matter) and if done en masse perhaps it could have some impact.

PortiasBiscuit · 05/07/2024 07:48

it would help if the people on this forum didn’t treat the rest of us as if we were imbecilic babies!
I have met precisely two trans women in my life, both seriously fucked in the head but far from dangerous.
As to the rest of them, if we all stopped paying attention to this issue 90% would lose interest and go and indulge in some other attention seeking activity.
I genuinely have no issue sharing any space with the remaining, genuine 10%.

I made what I felt what the least worst option tbh. Am I worried about women's rights? Absolutely. But look at what has been happening to them for the last 14 years while under Tory government. Who have also ran he country into the ground. So I voted Labour who I feel will be best for the country and will be making my voice heard to my MP and in any other way I can regard women's rights. I am hoping that Labour will actually take stock of what has happened over the past couple of years, hear what women have been saying and we will finally be able to find a way through this mess making sure that everyone is free to feel safe, love their life however they choose with the support they need without women's legal rights being eradicated in the process.

This was me. I have deliberated for months about what I would do. I was initially going to abstain. Then I was going to spoil my ballot but in the end voted Labour as I always have done

The candidate lives 100 miles away from our 'constituency' for fucks sake!

But I dont feel comfortable with my vote. She got in and wiped out the tory candidate who has been here years. In a way I wish I wasnt part of the vote but it wouldnt have made a difference.

So we have a new government but Im not excited like I was when it happened before.

No it isn't. It featured in pretty much all the threads on the General Election Board. Women's rights to sex based spaces and sports is quite important to A LOT of women, not just on Mumsnet.

LonginesPrime · 05/07/2024 07:48

To be fair, I've experienced this as a lesbian for the past 8 or 9 years under Tory rule anyway.

I didn't vote Labour (I live in a very safe Labour seat anyway), but the notion that lesbians were adequately protected from discrimination until this morning is pure fantasy.

Some people have other worries besides the gender stuff.
Tories were threatening PIP payments for mental illness. I have adult children who rely on their PIP payments to live.

My choice was:
Concern about my children's lives.
Concern about womens rights.

Floisme · 05/07/2024 07:49

Has this thread been moved to FWR?

Anyway I don't see the point of castigating women who made the best choice they could in a dire situation.

And yet you also don’t have the empathy for other women and girls to not come and scold them for voicing their concerns.

Stripesandchecks543 · 05/07/2024 07:51

Yes I do realise thank you because I can read and am reasonably intelligent so please don’t be so condescending.

I want women’s spaces protected and I also want the children living under the poverty line being fed, and the homeless housed, and fundamental inequalities in our society addressed.

It’s now possible to fight the trans issue issue from within, especially we now have almost 250 women MPs in parliament thankfully. That is a huge positive change. Women’s issues can finally rise to much more prominence.

And boy do we need women MPS with Farage as an MP mentioning Andrew Tate in his acceptance speech.

And please note the horrible misogyny faced by Jess Philips in Birmingham. As she said, it’s interesting to note that misogyny does not just come from Reform, it comes from a number of places. We need to fight all of them.

MrsWhiskerz · 05/07/2024 07:51

Well it’s done now. Now is your chance to start petitioning, start writing to your new government, get your local MP involved, campaign on social media and get your voice heard.

Be the change you want to see!

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 05/07/2024 07:52

It's a weird election. Starmer got them to far fewer votes than Corbyn did. Some of the seats are quite fragile. They're going to have to tread very carefully all round:

Basically - this. I have a son and not a daughter though - if that was different I might have voted differently.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 05/07/2024 07:53

Two reasons:

I'm not a single issue voter. I can't ignore everything else.
And even if I was, I simply don't believe the Tories care. I don't buy that at all.

In my constituency, a brexit loving, Braverman supporting Tory was the only person who might win other than Labour. And I wasn't voting for him, nor making it more likely that he'd win by voting for someone else.
