Transgirl teen in girls spaces

WhatTheHellIsThisBollox · 26/06/2024 18:07

Found out that a 15yr old transgirl is using the girls toilets and changing rooms in my DC's local secondary school. Told by staff. Different year group to my DC.

Several girls haven't taken part in PE since this decision was made.

This is in Wales. I fully support the rights of anyone to live their life, but this? No way. I didn't think that this was allowed in schools anymore.

I found this link from Merched Cymru - the toilets should be single sex;

merchedcymru.wales/school-toilets-campaign/

AndSoFinally · 26/06/2024 19:00

That'll be the Labour government in charge.

Coming to a town near you soon, folks!

WomanWithoutNeedOfPrefix · 26/06/2024 19:51

This is the introductory text to the government consultation on single-sex spaces guidance: "The Minister for Women and Equalities is seeking examples of policy or guidance in which public bodies – or organisations that advise public and private organisations - wrongly suggest that people have a legal right to access single-sex spaces and services according to their self-identified gender."

Self-identification does not give you access to spaces reserved for the opposite sex. A school age boy cannot have a GRC. He does not have any legal basis to be in the girl's toilets.

Thank you.
I'm really alarmed and, this ISN'T personal to the transgirl involved - I certainly hope they are offered facilities to protect their dignity and privacy - but not at the expense of any girl.

Can anyone help me and advise me? I plan on asking SLT on gate duty tomorrow whether it's is true.

'I certainly hope they are offered facilities to protect their dignity and privacy'

I know you are trying to be nice and do what you're told but for me your statement here is a massive part of the problem. No. No. No. This is a boy. He is a boy. He should be in the male change room with other males. He should be told that he is allowed to wear anything he wants, confirm to whichever stereotypical thing that makes him comfortable, but this whole sorry mess has started with the pussyfooting around with 'choose your own pronouns'. No mate, sorry, you're a boy.

JanesLittleGirl · 26/06/2024 21:29

Labour ruled Wales today. Labour ruled England tomorrow. Oh dear! How should I vote?

That's up shit creek for me. Everyone wokey woke here in Wales apart from the tories. I'd rather throw myself off Pen y Fan rather than vote for that thieving lot.

There is no such thing as a "transgirl". This boy needs to be supported. Not through fantasy nonsense.

Screamingabdabz · 26/06/2024 22:21

I’d be asking the question who on the school leadership team is protecting the rest of the girls’ privacy and dignity. It doesn’t matter if they all sign in blood that they’re all personally ok with it, there is wider precedent of a duty of care. See if they’ve even considered the rest of them. Only the special ones matter.

Thelnebriati · 26/06/2024 22:28

The school shouldn't ask the other girls what they think, because it puts pressure on them at a time when they need the adults to step up and do their job; and in any case they can't consent on behalf of others.

PardonMee · 26/06/2024 22:33

The child won’t have a gender recognition certificate. Too young

FourChimneys · 26/06/2024 22:36

Using the word safeguarding usually puts schools into a panic. Use it liberally OP.

Times have changed. When I was at school, two boys went into the girls' changing room for a joke. They were suspended for a week and caned when they returned.

Mycatsmudge · 26/06/2024 22:40

It’s happening everywhere unfortunately, including nurses changing rooms. This is what O fear most about a Labour government and a Lib Dem opposition

Unfortunately if they are 'out' as a transgirl, they are at high risk of verbal harassment and hazing at best, physical violence at worst if you just 'throw them in with the boys'. If also not using the girls facilities, this means another option would be required.

theDudesmummy · 26/06/2024 22:46

Well then deal with the boys' behaviour. It is nothing to do with the girls.

arethereanyleftatall · 26/06/2024 22:51

Are you suggesting boys are physically violent @BestZebbie ?
Yes, we know that. That's why one of them shouldn't be able to use the girls facilities.

FourChimneys · 26/06/2024 22:58

theDudesmummy
Spot on. It is a problem with the boys. The girls are not there to protect boys from being bullied by other boys.

This nonsense needs to end. In 10 or 20 years time I am sure people will look back in horror.

EnfysPreseli · 26/06/2024 23:04

Merched Cymru has done quite a lot of work on schools and the guidance and policies they follow. They published a couple of reports earlier this year.

They're all volunteers, but like a lot of sex realist women's organisations are pretty well informed and highly skilled due to their day jobs/professional backgrounds. If you email them via their website they may be able to help.

Mixed sex toilets in Wales' schools – breaking the law - Merched Cymru

New and refurbished schools across Wales are building mixed sex toilet facilities which are not compliant with the law

They are a boy with a boy's body so they will have plenty of dignity in the boys' changing rooms, and as much privacy as all the other children.

Why do you think they need something over and above what the other children have?

This is why I'm going to spoil my ballot paper. I always used to vote labour but I'm in Wales and have seen how desperate they are to pander to all the transactivists and can't stomach voting for them again. Won't make any difference as my constituency would vote labour even if the candidate was a potato dressed in a binbag.
As for your school problem, I would speak to the teacher and explain your concern that a boy is using the girls' toilet which should be a space only for girls. If they start spouting crap about how he's turned into a girl remind them that he still has a penis therefore is male. If they say he can't use the boys toilets for fear of being abused there then how about him using the male staff loos if they're that keen to support this nonsense? I was under the impression that schools weren't now supposed to be affirming a child's wish to believe they can change sex.

WhatTheHellIsThisBollox · 26/06/2024 23:21

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone know if the Cass report is relevant to Welsh Government?

I agree - protecting this boy from violence is not up to the girls. Teach the boys not to be violent.

Actually I’d argue that a large part of the issue is attitudes such as your’s. Providing trans-identifying children with a private space to go to the toilet and get changed has no harmful effect on girls. Many of these children are trans-identified due to abuse, and forcing them into situations they find traumatic is hardly going to help that. Furthermore, failure to provide a third space alternative is a key pillar used to bolster TRAs fighting to use opposite sex facilities.

I also think turning around and saying to such a child ‘no mate, sorry, you're a boy’ is exactly the kind of thing that will encourage deep hurt and defensiveness, inhibiting future attempts to explore their distress. It is perfectly possible to challenge harmful gender stereotypes and transgender ideology, whilst also treating a confused and distressed child with compassion. Criticising ideas rather than their current personal identity (which, regardless of its validity, is deeply felt by the young person in question) is far more effective.

Thats all great but this boy still shouldn't be in the girls toilets or changing rooms.
ALL children should have a Private space to get changed and use the toilets and that includes girls.
If it isn't safe for this boy to use the boys toilets then that should be tackled, there are lots of boys who are picked on in toilets and other places at school so thast need to be dealt with rather than just say "sorry girls, no single sex toilets for you anymore".
Its a boy problem, caused by boys and for boys so let boys sort it out
