Ffs!

does anybody remember that clomping ‘ballerina’ from a while back, being feted by all the actually talented and skilled women? All a bloke has to do is turn up in a skirt and everyone acts as if they’ve done something marvelous - women rarely get such praise even when they achieve something truly outstanding.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/05/2024 21:24

Meanwhile we have Eddie Izzard saying he wouldn't dream of taking a woman's role in a film because 'it wouldn't be fair'. Huh. Chance would be a fine thing.
Izzard really doesn't cut it as a woman, I expect this person doesn't either, in the flesh. But we all pretend.

GrumpyPanda · 26/05/2024 21:38

Well he doesn't play a woman either. He apparently plays a mobster who stages his own death and then reappears as a "woman." Doesn't make it much better.

His acceptance speech was all me me me and let's sock it to the haters. Oh, and he forgot to mention the other women who won too (the prize was for an ensemble) - oops! Silly boy.

Selfish, self absorbed dick shocker. Not.

At least he has a fine big shoulder for himself to cry on

It's like giving the Best Actress Oscar to Jack Lemmon for Some Like It Hot.

Cattery · 27/05/2024 12:07

Just when you thought the world couldn’t tilt any further on its axis

MarvellousMonsters · 27/05/2024 12:32

In some way it's well deserved, he must be a phenomenal actor to convince people he's a women Hmm

yes, you guessed it.

One of four, but the film's centered on his character and named for it, and he's the one who got handed the trophy.

Which one is Dave?

Don't tell me,don't tell me.....

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/06/2024 16:47

So, the best actor and best actress prizes won by (the sex formerly known as) men, no prizes left for (the sex formerly known as) women.

Remind me again how expanding the boundaries of "women" to include (the sex formerly known as) men provides any benefits whatsoever to (the sex formerly known as) women?

duc748 · 02/06/2024 17:39

Of course, the Guardian's preferred solution is to abolish 'actress' altogether in favour of the (apparently) neutral 'actor'. So just one category for the Oscars and so on. Nett result of that would be women getting even fewer awards.

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 02/06/2024 19:10

Gargoyles of Beelzebub eh?

I missed what preceded this. Anything in particular?

In other news, it's amazing how long some groups of women took to win best actress after being relegated to "best supporting actress' nominations for so long. afaict, no Black woman has been recognised as Best Actress since Halle Berry.

And the winner of the Cannes Best Actress award is....

£5 says the most basic DNA test available could answer Gascón’s challenge.

Handy life tip:

If you have to totally change the definition of a thing to prove you are that thing, you are not that thing.

Don't feel sorry for any of the actresses who lost out because they supported this mess.

"And in one tweet, the man behind the mask showed up and told women exactly what he thinks of females [who believe in reality.]"

Exactly this.
