Oh this is too delicious. Gascón now getting flak for past social media posts criticizing Muslims, BLM and run-amok diversity at the Oscar's.

"As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”

Blah blah blah blah. Blah.

A male whose singing voice was enhanced by AI is up for an Oscar in the female category? Hmmm

Because he did not have the full female range , apparently. Go figure

So marginalised that he was in a terrible film that has been nominated for 13 Oscars 🤔

This is hilarious. I imagine those posts will have destroyed any chance of Gascon winning the Oscar, and won't have done much for the film's chances either.

HarpyOfACertainAge · 31/01/2025 09:07

It does put the oh so righteous Oscar judging panel in a right quandary now 🤭

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 31/01/2025 09:10

Demi Moore must be very happy now..

Really fucking annoying if Gascon doesn't get the Best Actress Oscar for what he is (a racist) rather than what he isn't (an actress). But I guess this is the timeline where we take the wins regardless.

I can’t understand that. As a woman, it’s strange that he doesn’t possess the full female range. Unusual.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2025 09:17

Oh, my.

Fenlandia · 31/01/2025 09:23

I do hope this will be their acceptance speech if they win the Oscar! What a lovely person!

Apparently Karla's overt racism humanizes transpeople.

If their point is that there’s nothing special about transpeople, I’d agree. Now can everyone stop treating them as some sacred caste.

The pretzel logic of that statement is so incredible you have to wonder if it's serious or not!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/01/2025 13:33

Apparently Karla's overt racism humanizes transpeople.

Who is actually convinced that they are morally better than everyone else 🤣 you'd really have to be quite deluded.

GrumpyPanda · 31/01/2025 15:25

Well to be fair.. it does somewhat recall the feminist argument that there won't be true equality until there's just as many mediocre women getting promoted as mediocre men 🤣

Wow. That is not what I was expecting to read when I caught up with the posts on this thread from today.

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 31/01/2025 18:01

Well well well. The most interesting aspect here is what will the lovely Oscar people do with this information.. their heads will be hurting with internal conflict.

Clearly they Should withdraw the nomination. But but but ..

As if William Smith thumping Christopher Rock in the face wasn’t enough, now This.

It’s almost as if the Oscar’s are past their sell by date.

TheKeatingFive · 31/01/2025 18:05

Well this is wonderful 😂

Binglebong · 31/01/2025 18:42

Láurel Miranda, a transgender human rights advocate said she had received a casting call for the film looking for “a middle-aged transgender actress with a robust build, because of course we trans women always have to be hardy,” she said sarcastically.

In addition infusing the movie with “soap opera stereotypes” of what transgender women should look like, Miranda questioned the original script that had Manitas only wanting to become a woman to evade justice. Gascón pushed to change the motivation to a woman looking to make her transition.

My bold.

This would have changed things a bit! But no doubt becoming a woman, whatever the reason, would have caused a personality change and they would suddenly become a peaceful and docile member of fairer sex.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/01/2025 18:45

I mean they’re not even faintly unequivocal are they 🤪🤪🤪

Hitler was just having an opinion about Jews…..I mean fucking hell!!

PriOn1 · 31/01/2025 19:00

“the original script that had Manitas only wanting to become a woman to evade justice.”

Well now. A really good film might have examined the ethics of changing sex for advantages that brings… but that would be transphobic of course. A much more interesting topic though.

Chersfrozenface · 31/01/2025 19:44

Gina Carano was sacked from The Mandalorian for social media posts.

Just saying.
