Only oblique references to the gargoyles of beelzebub this time. But yes, calling a man a man us literal violence.

And the winner of the Cannes Best Actress award is....

Just seems like, what fresh madness is this? I can't comment on the acting skills, may well be brilliant for all I know, but that Guardian piece, really?

lonelywater · 19/10/2024 00:40

ive had a good life, and if I went under a bus tomorrow it would not be the end of the world (well, for me yes, but...) one of my few remaining ambitions is to live long enough to see this fucking bollocks killed with fire, such that youngsters will hardly believe this sodding nonsense ever actually happened.

SinnerBoy · 19/10/2024 15:50

Oh dear, what a drama king. Anyway, here's an archive link, for those unable to turn of adverts and biscuits:

The fawning in that interview....I just....Eurgh!

MarieDeGournay · 19/10/2024 18:32

The acting skills? Well the acceptance speech is anything to go by..

🙄

Gargoyles of Beelzebub is wonderful! 'They' keep feeding us names that we bear with honour, don't they? Rights-hoarding dinosaurs.. nest of vipers...
I can't wait for the G of B merch.Grin

One irritant though is finding oneself agreeing with a right-wing politician who belongs to a party which broke with the National Front because they had become such lefty permissive pinko liberals..

This contributes to the toxic atmosphere around GC feminism in France, where GC=fascist=asking for it=extreme, armed violence.

Obviously what Marion Maréchal said is 100% correct, it's just unfortunate that it comes from someone who says a lot of other stuff that is 100% unacceptable.

If only some French politicians to the left of Genghis Khan would stand up for women!

duc748 · 19/10/2024 18:53

Yeah, I have now seen the speech, so will quietly withdraw that bit about acting skills...

JanesLittleGirl · 19/10/2024 22:23

You need to be able to suspend every concept of reality in order to be a perfect actor. Well done.

It's like giving the Best Actress Oscar to Jack Lemmon for Some Like It Hot.

In fairness, that was a cracking performance...

Runningupthecurtains · 19/10/2024 23:46

First openly trans.... Are they trying to tell us they think one (or more) of the women that have won best actress in the past are actually trans?

duc748 · 19/10/2024 23:50

Sad thing is, I mentioned upthread about the Guardian's idea of doing away with Best Actress, and just having Best Actor; and actually, women might have more chance of winning the gong under those rules than the current ones,

It didn't do women any favours when the Brits dropped sex categories.

duc748 · 20/10/2024 00:19

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a good idea, just that under the current showbiz routine, ironically, women might have more chance in a solo section.

So far it's been heads they win, tails we lose.

This Twitter discussion has a link to the me, me, me speech.

https://x.com/ReduxxMag/status/1794726068009799900

I am confused. The actor claims to be a woman. Yet self-refers as “trans”. So…. Does the actor not believe TWAW? (If one believes TWAW then there is no need for modifier “trans” is there? But…. To lose the modifier might mean losing some specialness?))

Oh FFS 🤦‍♀️ do these award panels simply see a TW and have a Pavlovian reaction? Is it even possible for a TW to do something and NOT win an award for it?

Perfect summing up of the situation, Igmum!
They are so brave and marginalised and literally genocided that they deserve everything woman-related, and we are petty and mean and unkind and phobic if we object..🙄

viques · 08/12/2024 14:57

Eventually, in about the year 2099 I reckon, someone will look at the stats and realise that a natal woman hasn’t actually won a prize, an award, a sporting event or any form of recognition for at least forty years , and that year, and probably for that one year only, we will win fucking EVERYTHING!

🏆

RunoroundTheChristmasTree · 08/12/2024 16:26

@GargoylesofBeelzebub have you seen this? You’re famous! And I’ve been here too long…..

GrumpyPanda · 09/12/2024 13:51

Spanish Twitter thread. Turns out Gargoyles makes a super-ugly woman but was actually a rather fetching lady. That's if you overlook the moobs.
