Is "openly Jewish" a hate crime under the April Fools Scottish hate crime law?

A Metropolitan police officer threatened to arrest a man for being "Openly Jewish" in London. Is this a hate crime in Scotland under the new hate crime laws?

I think it is. Could someone report it for me please I find it incredibly offensive and racist. I want to see what happens when Scottish Police try to get involved with racist actions taken by the Metropolitan Police.

(((The Israel lobby))). Who exactly are this elusive Israel lobby, as if I couldn't guess.

I have to confess I was a cowerd and kept my mouth shut, just gave her a lecture on the evils of anti Semitism. She just rolled her eyes at this which surprised me.

You claim to have given someone a lecture on antisemitism and then you start stanning for Ilan Pappé, so imagine our surprise to hear someone "rolled her eyes" at you.

You may find 'the Isreal lobby' by John meirshimer helpful.

If you cannot condense the discussion, or pick out its essential arguments and then put them into your won words - it might well be suggestive of you not really having an understanding or a grasp of those issues yourself?

Your actual own words ,though, so far, have given a very clear indication of your position. Denial of atrocities, accusations of wilful genocide and various other conspiracy type thinking. You have shown no empathy, nor consideration of the Israeli position at all.

You cannot really expect busy people to take over an hour out of their day to watch a video that someone has posted. Many people now tend to post videos or other clips in place of their own considered arguments. Nobody has the time for that. This is a discussion board.

Ok, so watch it yourself, it's not a hard watch.
Maybe we've got it all wrong and you can tell us?

Can you engage without childish rhetoric? There is absolutely no need to be antagonistic or aggressive in your responses.

I'm happy to read as many sources as seem potentially useful/credible.

I googled 'Illan Pappe' and am now reading about him, and I thought the article by Benny Morris seems interesting given their shared history.

The question about the difference between Zionism and antisemitism is a VERY very complicated and multifaceted one. The official debate in the video has 4 experts with huge experience and knowledge. 2 saying that both are the same, and 2 saying that they are very different and not linked (although they can be in some cases). There is NO way this can be resumed in a few sentences. Don't watch of course if you don't want to. And if I gave a summary, you would not trust or believe me.

Far too complex, and far too important, for a non expert like me to summarise, that would be really stupid indeed.

It is not complex. It simply requires you to have a grasp of the issue. You don't appear to, quite like many other people on those marches who argue so vociferously, but when their points are unpacked or critiqued, collapse in a heap.

I have a theory that the gender critical movement has been groomed by the Isreal loby.
I went to a quite exclusive gc event once (tried to chat up prof Jane Clair jones 😂) but anyway, I was cornered by a woman who insisted on grilling me on my views on Isreal.

That was a wild ride.

Hi, I don't think Isreal-as an ethno state established by extream violence in a place with a native population not of the favored ethnicity -should exist, no.
Can I ask if you think Arabs are human beings with the same rights as other human beings?

Lousy, unevidenced non arguments.

Read some history, may I suggest illan pape, there was a whole population that have been there since ancient times.

Ilan Pappe is a self proclaimed, post modernist historian, whose grasp of facts has been much critiqued by other historians. As a post modernist he is all about the narrative, not believing that there are ever any ever concrete truths.

It has been said of Pappe that: "Pappe is just telling stories with villains (zionists in this case) and heroes. Morris ( Historian Benny Morris) writes what he found to be truth (at least, it is his intention… people are not perfect), while Pappe at best writes what he “hopes” to be truth".......Ilan Peppe is not trying to write about history, he is writing about a narrative, the narrative of the Palestinians. He is an ideologue.

Rubbish, his work around the nakba is sourced on isrealiedocuments and testimonials from Jewish men involved in the raping and killing.

Oh my goodness.....the conspiracy theories do multiply when the arguments are found lacking.

What?

MikkyMo · 24/04/2024 20:29

Sorry, was that too circa 2010.
It was a nonsense comeback by kids a few years ago.
I'm trying to say insults alone are not convincing of anything, except that the insulter has little in the way of interlect.

ArabellaScott · 24/04/2024 20:29

You are coming across as either very young, or not in good faith, Mikky. Perhaps both. I'll leave it there.

RebelliousCow · 24/04/2024 20:29

MikkyMo · 24/04/2024 19:26

No, but I will def give it a listen at the weekend.

Why don't you try reading some literature on the matter. I've got a copy of Ilan Pappe's 'The Idea of Israel'. Reading helps you to understand what you are trying to justify or explain.

Neither is correct, so not sure what I should make of that.
People, even thoughtful ones, hate being challenged on things they have been convinced are morally right?

I'm badly dyslexic, iv only read about five books in my life.(it takes me about an hour to read one page) I do read articles though.
But thanks for the advice.

It is not "rubbish". He writes narratives about elements of the Palestinian experience. He is not an historian who is interested in objective truth.

I'm sorry, what?

I hadn't heard of this chap, two posters have sung his praises, I'm looking for information on him.

Two posters? Maybe the same poster with different sock accounts? The styles are the same, feign thinly veiled bigotry as reasonableness, and then get aggressive when confronted. TBF they are probably not out of their teens.

MikkyMo · 24/04/2024 20:43

Can I ask you Rebellious, why would a historian writing about, in the course of many aspects of his work, the palistian experience cause you to discount him professionally and as a moral person?
I'm Jewish but I'm not at all offended that Palestinians exist, and have existed for hundreds of years, and have their experiences, history, culture, everything other people have really.
Zionists are offended that Palestinians exist, they are in the way of the zionist project and they just can't forgive them for that.

MikkyMo · 24/04/2024 20:44

Wtf? Seriously.
