Right wingers, meant as an insult, are to blame for ruining Park Run, not men in frocks.

Voices must be heard, even if this is an opinion piece. This mad ideology only continues whilst we allow it and not speaking up is a CHOICE to allow it to keep happening.

Why have rightwingers made even parkrun a battleground for trans people? | Jonathan Liew

When non-competitive, mass-participation jogging is annexed by the culture warriors, it’s clear there are other agendas at play

Trans people can run wherever they want as long as they don't expect to be recognised as anything other than biological sex they were born. There are so many of them they could have their own category and make trans records. Instead all they seem to want to do is to steal female records and medals.

The only response in favour of the article is by someone who readily admits to having 'skin in the game'.

"Skin in the game" but neither the courage nor the integrity to stand up and be counted by giving their name.

Impressive.

Edit - constant battle with autocarrot.

I have sent a complaint too. I am genuinely sad as I have been a loyal Guardian reader for years & years but this is the last straw and I have cancelled my subscription. I have been reading the Guardian all these years because I thought it offered a reasonably objective version of the news - of course with a more left-wing bias - but still without the populist nonsense of the right wing papers.
It is really sad that journalist integrity has been sacrificed for identity politics propaganda - isn’t the Guardian now just the left wing’s equivalent of the Daily Mail to some extent?

It is exactly the equivalent of the Daily Mail. The left wing progressive version. The guardian whips up hate towards those it has decided are the baddies, just like DM. Readers of neither see how they are manipulated because the people being derided are the baddies. Readers know this because their paper told them they are the baddies.

I don't think that is a fair assumption to make about trans people as a whole, particularly bearing in mind that some are actually female.

And how many of those actually female trans people are stealing men's records?

That’s what I mean. This isn’t about trans people as a whole. It’s about some males.

If you identify as a trans man or non binary female your choice is to compete as a man, but at a disadvantage, or to compete as your sex (assuming no performance enhancing drugs) like the Canadian footballer Quinn.

Merrymouse · 16/02/2024 08:46

Although if testosterone meant that trans men were actually on the podium, nobody would be suggesting it was fair.

Would that be foreskin in the game?

both figurative and literal

Yes, like Emotionalsupportviper, I noticed that the respondent was "name and address supplied." I was surprised as well that any intelligent person could describe Liew's polemic as a "thoughtful piece." I mean, I know some thought went into what he wanted to write, but it's far from what I'd describe as thoughtful; more angry and propagandistic.

Name me one record a female trans man has taken from a man? It doesn't exist because of biological differences as well you know. Giving them their own category would be the fairest let them compete against each other.

I agree. My point is that this isn’t about all trans people.

I got the impression that letter writer was very young. The immature jibe that women who want fair play through not having males in women’s results, should expect their run times to be slower as ‘hate slows you down’ was the sort of comment I’d expect of someone still in statutory education.

CorruptedCauldron · 16/02/2024 18:42

The ‘hate slows you down’ comment jumped out at me too. So pathetic. Women who care about a level playing field in women’s sport are NOT hateful. They don’t want to stop trans women participating in parkrun, they just want them to compete in a third, gender-neutral category, or in the male category.

It is about fair and true results. Men enjoy this basic privilege - they can compare their times against other men and enjoy a bit of fun and healthy competition to motivate themselves on their fitness journey. Why is the women’s category seen as less important?
