@Bloodeehell It is very a bit silly to classify the very early stages of embryonic development as phenotypically female. It is before the development into male or female. A female is not just anything without a penis and testes. It is an entire reproductive system. The human embryo has a tail until around 8 weeks, but I don’t think we think human embryos are actually part fish (even phenotypically) until the tail disappears.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 15/11/2023 13:29

Is Steph getting paid for the role do we know?

Given the income of the charity is extremely small, I doubt it. The trustees are unpaid.

If Steph is getting paid for this it won't be a lot I shouldn't think. Expenses maybe.

Here's their Financial info.
I'm sure they were hoping to boost donations from WH publicity. That went well.

Who the Charity helps. Spot the missing group. A Tunnock Teacake for the first correct answer.

For the purposes of the Charities Commission, women fall under the general public / other defined groups. As far as I know there is no "women" box any charity can tick (and no "men" or "trans" for that matter).

Have a look at e.g. women's aid / refuges / rape crisis / cancer charities and you'll see the same thing.

Sorry I was being casual, of course embryos are not female and then either continue on or differentiate into male. I was referring to a paper which basically is referencing that it is X chromosome expression up until 6wks dictating development and thus phenotype. This will explain it better in layman’s terms for everyone.

All Mammals Start as Female - Fact or Myth?

Mammals don't start as females, they start as a blank slate with XX or XY genetic code, and for the first 5-6 weeks of gestation only the X gene expresses.

I feel more strongly than ever that Steph and Jodie shouldn't have been interviewed. How many other charity CEOs does Woman's Hour have on where the charity is very small, regionally based and brings in £8k a year? It's like interviewing your local NCT bumps and babies organiser rather than the national CEO. They ran the interview purely because there was a bit of a social media pushback against the appointment.

The best thing to do with people like Steph and Jodie - attention-seeking dimwits that they are - is to ignore them altogether. There are lots of brilliant, dedicated, hardworking women in the UK doing fantastic work in all sorts of areas. Interview them instead.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 15/11/2023 13:50

'Steph' is an exceptionally bad choice for the role due to wanting many of those the charity is to support/represent to be in hell.

A female would be a better choice for many reasons but a male could probably do the job... unless he often campaigned against women and girls who didn't share one of his beliefs.

LittleGlowingOblong · 15/11/2023 13:50

£8k gross income is buttons.

haven’t read all messages on here but I agree with @CheeseChamp . It’s a tiny local charity, run on a shoestring, and headed up by a 71 year old transwoman who said in the interview something like she just wanted to “do good in the world”, something like that.

You do get women heading up eg testicular cancer charities. There are no obvious safeguarding risks. I believe Steph has a GRC and has possibly surgically transitioned.

I think on this one the TERFS risk coming across as a bit harsh, and disproportionate too.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/11/2023 13:52

No you absolutely can state women

see women’s aid governing document here https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/-/charity-details/1054154/governing-document

as you can also state men

There's something...i dunno...important about Steph that makes him unsuitable for such a role.

It's on the tip of my tongue...

Flickersy · 15/11/2023 13:53

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/11/2023 13:52

Yes, but not under the list of "who, what, how" etc on the summary page, which is what the PP was talking about...

LittleGlowingOblong · 15/11/2023 13:53

Agree, @RoyalCorgi - in fact we’ve borne out the funder’s decision to recruit, as that wee charity now has a huge national profile - and possibly a flood of donations coming in from the trans community…

The trans community won't put their hands in their pockets.

What was the total of Shon Faye's crowdfunder??

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/11/2023 13:55

@LittleGlowingOblong you
obviously missed all the posts of stephs own words and pictures slagging off women who want single sex spaces & harassing women at the FILA conference

if they’re too dim to realise how stupid they would come across up against an experienced journalist with Endo then that’s their problem

LittleGlowingOblong · 15/11/2023 13:58

Given that I mentioned a female CEO of a testicular cancer charity, I don’t actually know what you mean.

I mean, it sounds like there was no recruitment process as such, but it might sail close to the Equality Act to refuse the appointment on gender identity grounds. Especially as there are (a vanishingly small number of) cis men who suffer from endometriosis.

LittleGlowingOblong · 15/11/2023 13:59

@Theeyeballsinthesky I did, yes!

If they’re a misogynist, they masked it very well in the interview.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/11/2023 13:59

Steph said on woman’s hour they were offered the post over a coffee - there was no recruitment process because given the very low income of the charity, it’s unlikely Steph is being paid

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/11/2023 14:00

steph thinks womanhood is a set of stereotypes & a costume they can assume

of course they’re a misogynist

WarriorN · 15/11/2023 14:00

So no safer recruitment systems used. In schools that's an online and social media Google

All of this has been covered in the thread.

The acronym to describe him is verboten on here (the truth hurts!), so I won't use it.

I hope that's irony you are using there.

RoyalCorgi · 15/11/2023 14:04

Just when you think the debacle couldn't insult women any further, here comes Ben.

Yup. Just at the point where I think the Labour tanker is slowly turning, here comes Ben to remind us what a bunch of misogynists they are.

Not to mention Zoe Williams of the Guardian, doing her best to win handmaiden of the year award.
