Thank you everyone for your comments here. I have enjoyed them and they gave me heart (and at times laughter) during a difficult 3 weeks.

Thank you for your fortitude @JoPhoenix . I hope the wait for the judgment is worth it. Sadly, I don't have the jurisprudence prowess of your legal team to say how much of a close run thing it is likely to be, but from a lay perspective it appears you've been massively failed by the OU's hierarchy, and horribly stitched up by your fellow academics. However, whatever the deficiencies in our legal knowledge, for moral support, snark, random musical flights of fancy or cheese recommendations you couldn't hope for a better group of women (and the occasional bloke) behind you. Hopefully the next revival of this thread will be a celebratory one.

loveyouradvice · 20/10/2023 22:11

A HUGE HUGE thank you to ALL of you for this amazing and deeply engaging thread... it has been such a privilege to go through this Tribunal with all of you... I've learnt lots, cried and laughed and am just SO glad we are together.

Ickky especially - thank you

And wow - Jo Phoenix, you popped in!! Thank you ... we are all cheering you on and I hope you can catch the echoes. And yes, I plan to send you some cheese c/o Reading University in honour of this thread and all you have been through... if by any chance you don't like cheese, or are dairy intolerant do say.... I take a while to do things so won't happen immediately! You are such a hero for bringing this case and changing so many women's lives for the better...

JoPhoenix · 20/10/2023 22:18

I love cheese.

JanesLittleGirl · 20/10/2023 22:20

Sorry to return to cheese but I acted on previous advice about Gouda. I went to Borough Market before going home and bought 200g of aged Gouda. I still think that the wax tastes better than the cheese. Fortunately, I also bought a piece of East Sussex ewe's milk 'cheddar'. Pure heaven.

borntobequiet · 20/10/2023 22:26

You should have gone to Amsterdam.

Oh, Jo, I did wonder whether you'd have discovered these threads. I'm glad you have, so you can see for yourself how much you're appreciated. When you win, which I'm sure you will, you'll have the gratitude of thousands of GC academics. ♥Flowers

viques · 20/10/2023 22:51

Jo, thank you for standing up and speaking up, for women everywhere, for those with voices that are listened to, and those with voices that no one hears.

JanesLittleGirl · 20/10/2023 23:04

Thank you Jo for your bravery. I hope and believe that you will win but rest assured that should BC's arguments prove unsuccessful, I and many others will go back into the garden to give you justice.

JanesLittleGirl · 20/10/2023 23:20

borntobequiet · 20/10/2023 22:26

You should have gone to Amsterdam.

Do me a favour! I went south of the river. The cheesemonger is a cloggie. I bought the most expensive Gouda that he had. It doesn't work for me. However, I did buy 100g of Beemster that is supposed to have a stronger texture and a greater depth of flavour. I will try it tomorrow.

wacademia · 20/10/2023 23:21

Just finished all 30 pages of Prof Earle's statement. If you ever needed proof of "cancel culture", there it is.

CriticalCondition · 21/10/2023 00:05

Sorry to bring you down, but drones' genitals don't explode, they are only ripped out and remain in the queen.

Well, explode is a fair and accurate description of a single shot ejaculation that is so powerful it ruptures the drone's endophallus and propels the drone backwards leaving the bulbous tip plugging semen inside the queen. But if you're a beekeeper you'll know strong opinions abound. So if you'd rather describe the male organ as 'only' being ripped off upon involuntary withdrawal SinnerBoy, fine by me. Smile

FigRollsAlly · 21/10/2023 00:29

Thanks to everyone for the commentary and, most of all, immense thanks to Jo for her inspiring courage.

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2023 00:33

I was under the impression that the drone got stuck and it was ripped off as he pulled away, similarly to bee stings being pulled out.

I stand corrected...

ChokkaQuokka · 21/10/2023 03:55

Kudos to you, Jo, you must be feeling spent after all that.

i might have missed someone making this observation previously in these threads, it I can’t help thinking that the genderist reaction to the Forstater case is about to bite them in the bum.

Genderists: “just because Maya has a right to her beliefs doesn’t give her the right to harass someone…and we have the right to our beliefs!”

GCs: “Just because you have a right to your genderist beliefs doesn’t give you a right to harass anyone either.”

Jo P: “Excuse me, genderists at my workplace are harassing me.”

Genderists: “…”

(tumbleweeds)

AutumnCrow · 21/10/2023 04:34

Yes, this democracy & rights thing works both ways, despite what people are being erroneously told in outsourced training and perpetuating within their institutions.

@JoPhoenix thank you for exposing so much of this dreadful culture and for putting yourself through a punishing process to do so.

HarpQuartet · 21/10/2023 05:19

Wonderful efforts all round. In the words of Giovanni Pernice: thank you, thank you, thank you 👏👏👏

Bee information very disturbing.

AutumnCrow · 21/10/2023 07:48

Jo's fund now has over £230k in it. What an amazing effort.

And not just OU academics - academics everywhere, and students, and people who have nothing whatsoever to do with academia, but have an interest.

You are a star!

mateysmum · 21/10/2023 08:13

Jo - will you also give our admiration and adoration to Ben. I know he's "just" doing his job, but we bow down before his intellect and just general all round awesomeness! I hope he can now see his family and get some sleep.
