I'm only following things here but it looks to me like KS is more concerned about his own skin than ideological purity.

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/10/2023 12:27

I don't think KS is enjoying this very much

Definitely.

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/10/2023 12:28

@nauticant it is a feature of most university senior leadership that their own career / interests are the only priority for them

I keep thinking that Chris Williams has something to do with Pilgrim's case?

She mentions in her crowdfund that the OU wanted to assign her a history supervisor who was a trans rights activist who then blocked her on Twitter and people suggest that may be him. I don't know what that's based on or whether that's been confirmed anywhere or if it's just a speculation by people who don't know.

She mentions him here.

BC: email from Earle day after launch. Colleagues involved in network and SRA distressed. JP in tears - messages = harassment. So you knew c it.

KS: Yes

BC: so you knew c hostile environment

KS: yes

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/10/2023 12:30

To be fair to KS people in these senior roles often have minimal support in terms of admin etc so they do get swamped with things

nauticant · 16/10/2023 12:31

Chrysanthemum5, yes. It's interesting to see how the more you go up the hierarchy how there's more self-preservation and concern for institutional reputation mixed in with the ideology.

Or to put it another way, those lower down don't realise they're just cannon fodder in some insane ideological war.

Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 12:32

BC: KMI statement disassociating from GC cos don't support views. That's not neutral

KS: no I disagree

CriticalCondition · 16/10/2023 12:33

KS - GCRN was set up for anyone with any views either in support of GC views or not to simply get together to discuss

LarkLane · 16/10/2023 12:33

Thanks @Manderleyagain i thought I'd seen it somewhere. Sounds like the same person. From Pilgrim's statement

I began my PhD at the OU in October 2018, researching the history of housing in North Kensington prior to the Grenfell Tower fire.
However Dr Chris Williams the OU historian that had committed to providing input on the research project was a leading transgender advocate within the university. On realising I was gender critical he blocked me on social media, and then withdrew from working on my project. Although I was promised his expertise would be replaced no history supervision input was provided.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the higher up the ladder you go, the more self-interest you find. Self-interest is what allows you to climb that ladder.

Most people in real jobs are too busy doing actual work to have time for this kind of stuff. Sayre's Law, and all that.

Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 12:34

BC is lost. Not sure what KS talking about.

BC: so what did you think KMI are dissoc. themselves from in this statement if not GC.

J trying to ask KS what he means

CriticalCondition · 16/10/2023 12:35

Judge intervenes. Not about what KS believes about who could join. It about what KMi think.

Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 12:36

We've all given up with the KMI q and are moving on

Melissamelisante · 16/10/2023 12:37

Seems like BC is going to let ET judge validity of answers from KS as he just keeps moving to next question no matter how daft the answer.

Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 12:38

BC: KMI are saying to the world they disagree with the GCRN and will have them removed from our servers

KS: they are moving the content

BC: removing GCRN but not others

KS: well they just say content

BC: message to world is GCRN isn't welcome as far as we are converned

CriticalCondition · 16/10/2023 12:38

BC - KMI were disassociating themselves from GCRN and disapproving of it and wanted to take it off their servers
KS - I don't agree was discrim because continuity of GCRN with ou was going to continue

chilling19 · 16/10/2023 12:38

Amazing - all the OU witnesses are displaying a profound lack of understanding about letters, statements, <insert any other written word>, that clearly shows antipathy towards the GCRN

I would have expected HR to provide support, difficult if the HRD on the working group didn’t read the grievance.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2023 12:39

She mentions him here.

Thank you, I wasn't aware that he'd been mentioned by name.

ickky · 16/10/2023 12:39

It is just not believable, they all know the true reason, make themselves look like liars by disagreeing.

OP posts:
Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 12:41

KS: don't know if I rec'd email

BS: your ws says you had a meeting with them re this so you must have been aware they were putting out the statement. Statement out on 30th, meeting on 29th.

I know more about healthcare so this is a genuine question—do VCs of universities, senior management, lecturers etc. not have to (literally) sign up to the Nolan Principles of public life?

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 16/10/2023 12:43

I’m wondering if the panel are enjoying this case at all or whether they wish they were dealing with other, simpler ones like this one. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67121456

Man with sandwich and coffee

Citibank wins after sacking banker over two-sandwich lunch claim

Szabolcs Fekete claimed two coffees, two sandwiches and two pasta dishes were consumed solely by him.
