I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I agree OP. I've been a lone voice speaking up in defence of women in my own little sphere. I'm glad to see anyone speaking out on this, regardless of their politics. It makes me feel a bit less alone.

@Almosthumannow Same. I think single sex services and provisions are essential, but I'm not up for ridiculing vulnerable people, or making them a target.

This is exactly why it's a good thing regardless of whether it wins them the election or not (probably not).

Helen Joyce wrote a very good and comprehensive article today (paywalled or I would link) about stories she's collected from women working in media who have lost jobs and freelance work due to writing or talking about this issue in far milder terms than Sunak did.

I am not tory, I never have and never will vote tory. None of my family or friends are tory. Neither my place of birth or home town are tory and probably never will be.

yet - Sunak is the little kid who shouted 'but he's not wearing any clothes!'.

I am no fan of the Conservatives but I can keep fighting for women's rights under them. If Labour get in, they are gone. I have more rights under the Tories than I would under Labour or Lib Dem. I don't know why the Left don't see that is important to me.

Respect other people? really, I would take a long hard look in the mirror. If the worst thing that can happen to you is that a trans person enters into a bathroom you want to piss in, well you have a good life I can tell you that much. Maybe look around at people who are really suffering, because your reality is small.

It's one thing to be concerned about single sex safe spaces being taken away from vulnerable women, teenagers taking hormones too young, women's sport being ruined, etc.

But putting the boot into people who are just trying to live their lives, is not on. Doing it at a tory conference for cheap applause is just opportunistic. This is an issue with real nuance, not one that should be polarised for headlines.

I also disagreed with the hospital ward policy this week too. Women can't be guaranteed a single sex ward in the first place. It's meaningless.
