Rishi Sunak - "a man is a man, a woman is a woman"

..and how we shouldn't be bullied into believing somebody can be any sex that they want.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJcxUehh/

AIBU to want to give him a round of applause?

I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I still can't stand the Tories and won't be voting for them but cheers for acknowledging the insanity, Rishi.

I think Rishi probably believes men aren't women, after all most people do.
I do think that Keir Starmer has royally funked up on this issue.
I don't think he has deep convictions, but instead he spent too long listening to terrible advisers who don't sense the public mood.
I am not sure what we are allowed to say on Mumsnet anymore, but I do know Humans can't change sex, and Eddie Izzard is a man.

If you think this makes the Tories electable, you truly are delusional.

Pardon? Have you read any of my posts? I am not a tory supporter, quite the opposite.

It doesn't do that no, but it does validate the silent majority who have been bullied into going along with this bizarre gender narrative. I think that's very important indeed.

I hate the tories with a passion but I'm also passionate about women's rights and I will be thrilled every time an "important" person goes public with a statement like that.

People need to hear 'those in charge' pushing back against it.

Buying people's votes by telling them what they want to hear doesn't validate anything.

Applauding him for saying it is ridiculous, if he thought saying the opposite would benefit him then he would say the opposite.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/10/2023 22:04

Where I’m from you don’t get a round of applause for “stating the bleeding obvious”

You ccertainly shouldn't need a round of applause, but when nobody else is apparently capable of stating the bleeding obvious, doing so looks a bit more impressive.

Ellos · 04/10/2023 22:07

I know why he has said it, it's obviously a strategy, I'm not at all bothered why he has said it.. just that he has. The fact he said it is bloody brilliant. We have literally been banned from saying it and accused of hate crimes when we do. It needed to be said, it needed to come from the top.

Thank god he finally fucking said it.

they’ll win the election on the back of that.

14 years they will have had to change things by the time we get to an election

14 years to stop government departments and schools and the NHS from being stonewalled

14 years to speak out for womens rights

People are fools if they think the Tories actually give a shit about this beyond getting votes

Yep no other party has managed to state the bleeding obvious

They’d rather women didn’t notice or just go for the insults

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 04/10/2023 22:11

You won't get a lot of agreement on here. He is speaking common sense but because he's Tory, forget it. Childish and short sighted.

I'm not a fool, I knew the reason the minute I heard it but the fact is he said it and that is what I'm glad about.

No other politician has said it. If they had then maybe the madness wouldn't have gone as far as it has.

Zero to do with the OP.

honeybun24 · 04/10/2023 22:12

I hate the tories and he is saying whatever he thinks will get him more votes.

However on this occasion he isn't wrong. He's still a twat though.

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 04/10/2023 22:15

Finteq · 04/10/2023 21:45

YABU.

He is literally coming out with any old crap right now if he thinks it will get him re-elected.

So you don't agree with him. Got it 👍

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2023 22:17

YABU

The man doesn’t give a fuck about your gender critical views.

He doesn’t give a fuck about women.

He is simply spouting what he thinks some people want to hear and is ruthlessly ready to play the ‘War on woke’ card and fuel transphobia if there’s even a tiny chance it might earn him another couple of votes.

Anybody who believes this is any more than a desperate man desperately shouting out shit is far too easy to please.

I wasn't calling you a fool. I was saying that people who vote for them off the back of this are fools if they ignore the fact that a lot of these developments have happened whilst the tories have been in power

You said you don't vote tory so I was specifically not calling you a fool

CatusFlatus · 04/10/2023 22:19

It makes a change from the last general election when the claim was that nobody was interested in this and it 'never came up on the doorstep'.

That can only be a good thing.

Chuffaluffa · 04/10/2023 22:19

Have you taken a second to think about the impact of him saying that on trans men and women who are just trying to exist, and their existence has just been denied by a PM so desperate for votes he’s appealing to the only possible audiences he’s got left- racists, whatever’s left of the GB news audience, and people who don’t believe trans people should exist.

trans people do and have always existed, for the absolute vast majority without harm to anyone. Unlike men, for what it’s worth.

Lee Anderson knew what he was doing when he said the only things the Tory party could campaign on were ‘culture wars and trans people’- shame on you for proving him right.

that you’d think this was worthy of applause is horrendous, but I guess it’s to be expected on mumsnet.

But once again I wasn't replying to the original post so it doesn't matter that it wasn't relevant to it

HermioneKipper · 04/10/2023 22:20

Pure common sense. Unbelievable it has to be said.

I wont be voting Tory as they don’t care about education and special education needs in particular but that if someone is able to tell what a woman is

Caerulea · 04/10/2023 22:20

I hate the fact 'the left' aren't saying it, the tories saying it won't make me vote for them though if they do get in again at least I can take comfort there isn't any more nonsense on the horizon.

Unfortunately, though, it just feeds further into the narrative that this is all some right wing motivated thing & THAT I'm getting thoroughly fucking sick of. There's a lot of left leaning ppl who could speak up but it's just so bloody dangerous no-one dares. That's why the line has been drawn linking general bigotry with 'can we just slow down a bit, kinda worried about the kids here'. So we're all Nazis now. Sunak saying what he did doesn't help the situation at all.

You have massively missed the point I was making.

I know who and what he is. I know why he's making the statements he is. I've never voted Tory in my life and I'm not about to start now.

My point was that it's brilliant to hear GC views put out there coming straight from the top. It doesn't matter who is saying it, it matters that somebody with influence is saying it.

I know exactly how forums work, especially Tory threads. Same old, same old.

So, you're another one who doesn't agree with what he said. We get it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/10/2023 22:24

He is simply spouting what he thinks some people want to hear

Well yes. People would mostly prefer to vote for someone spouting something they agree with rather than something they don't. For a party to recognise what the public wants is surely better than for them to either be too clueless to recognise what the public wants, to be too spineless to commit to a decision either way, or to cling doggedly to what they've been lobbied into spouting by a small but vocal minority, even though it's patently obvious they're just parroting a line they don't believe.

We all know that the vast majority of people know perfectly well what a woman is, even if they've been persuaded that lying about it is the kind thing to do (or the thing that won't get you flamed).

chumsnut · 04/10/2023 22:24

YABU, how does this affect you anyway? Are you finding that people are constantly question which gender you identify as? Do trans right issues affect your life in anyway?

Nope, it does not. But it does affect those who are trans. He is not saying it solidify women's rights. He is saying it to divide and role. Why cheer him on for that?
