Rishi Sunak - "a man is a man, a woman is a woman"

Ellos · 04/10/2023 21:44

..and how we shouldn't be bullied into believing somebody can be any sex that they want.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJcxUehh/

AIBU to want to give him a round of applause?

I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I still can't stand the Tories and won't be voting for them but cheers for acknowledging the insanity, Rishi.

You have massively missed the point I was making.

I know who and what he is. I know why he's making the statements he is. I've never voted Tory in my life and I'm not about to start now.

My point was that it's brilliant to hear GC views put out there coming straight from the top. It doesn't matter who is saying it, it matters that somebody with influence is saying it.

Why on earth are you justifying your opinion by stating you've never voted Tory. It doesn't matter who you are aligned with. You are correct in stating Sunak has made an impact statement, that it biologically true.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2023 22:26

No, I really haven’t missed your point. I’m saying I disagree with your point. I don’t think him saying it is worthy of applause.

Ladybrrrd · 04/10/2023 22:26

I feel desperately sad and worried for all of my beautiful friends who will be losing freedoms they are currently afforded and respect they ought to have from everybody, to become the latest punching bag for a desperate government. So many 'GC' people keep repeating that they want to treat trans people with respect despite differences. We need to see some of that. To any trans or NB person reading this, know that so many of us believe you when you tell us who you are, and that you are welcome with us. You are loved.

PonyPatter44 · 04/10/2023 22:27

I think the silly twat was told to talk about trains and read his autocue wrong, so started talking about trans.

I feel sorry for the women who are increasingly being told to shut up on gender issues.

Have you taken a second to think about the impact of him saying that on trans men and women who are just trying to exist, and their existence has just been denied by a PM so desperate for votes he’s appealing to the only possible audiences he’s got left- racists, whatever’s left of the GB news audience, and people who don’t believe trans people should exist.

trans people do and have always existed, for the absolute vast majority without harm to anyone. Unlike men, for what it’s worth.

Lee Anderson knew what he was doing when he said the only things the Tory party could campaign on were ‘culture wars and trans people’- shame on you for proving him right.

that you’d think this was worthy of applause is horrendous, but I guess it’s to be expected on mumsnet.

How has their existence been denied? They are free to live and identify however they want to.

I don't see anybody looking to eradicate trans people.

The trans men and women who just want to exist are not the ones trying to erode on women's rights. There are plenty of trans people who have spoken out themselves and said that they don't want any part in all of the bollocks that has been going on over the past few years.. Blair White and India Willoughby to name two.

I know exactly how forums work, especially Tory threads. Same old, same old.

So, you're another one who doesn't agree with what he said. We get it.

You are wrong, I have been GC on countless threads under countless user names

Assuming that "critical of the way the tories have handled stonewall etc" = "not GC" is very odd

I agree with what he said. I think anyone who thinks that it will make a material difference to womens rights that are being encroached on is fooling themselves.

But considering you know how forums work perhaps you can stop policing my posts now because they aren't exactly what you want to hear

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2023 22:28

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/10/2023 22:24

He is simply spouting what he thinks some people want to hear

Well yes. People would mostly prefer to vote for someone spouting something they agree with rather than something they don't. For a party to recognise what the public wants is surely better than for them to either be too clueless to recognise what the public wants, to be too spineless to commit to a decision either way, or to cling doggedly to what they've been lobbied into spouting by a small but vocal minority, even though it's patently obvious they're just parroting a line they don't believe.

We all know that the vast majority of people know perfectly well what a woman is, even if they've been persuaded that lying about it is the kind thing to do (or the thing that won't get you flamed).

And if tomorrow he thought a few more people would like to hear him say the opposite, he would happily spout that. This is nothing to do with him ‘recognising what the public want.’

Not sure why they are bothering. It's like pissing into the wind for them now.

I’m more concerned about Labour’s meat tax and local councils telling me which shops I can go to, when and how many times. I also don’t have space for seven bins.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/10/2023 22:29

Did he also say “Brexit means Brexit”, “hands, face, space”? They do like a simplistic slogan.

I haven’t listened to any speech but the Tory record is dire and they could tell me the sun rises and the sun sets and I still don’t think they deserve the vote for occasionally opening their mouths without BS coming out.

Policing your posts? I don't think it's me who doesn't know what forums are about. It's called responding to a public post.

..and it is a good thing because we have become a nation where stating such a fact has become illegal, prohibited, frowned upon and comes with the risk of being arrested and losing your job.

Nobody else has said it. Maybe now they will.

When they start respecting women then we can talk. I won't hold my breath.

Those 'freedoms' you mention have come at a very high cost for women and girls.

I absolutely agree with you. Amazing how many other women don't, unless it's coming from Labour, which will never happen.

Vote-chasing nonsense from Mr Wibbly Wobbly who'll say what you want to hear, until Tories get into power again and they'll do what they've always done about this issue - ie sweet fuck all

Mumsnet is no way the lefty leaning site it used to be and I’ve been here for 17 years so don’t blame it on MN just being an echo chamber.
