@ArabeIIaScott

What's it about ? .. About an hour ?

I'm sure that our work here, in the last couple of week, is worth all the stars in the world.

Biffology · 14/09/2023 21:58

..And you haven't finished - there's that feminist argument to develop. I can't help you but I want to see it when it's finished.

WarriorN · 15/09/2023 08:27

I bought the vinyl. I don't have a record player but the whole thing appears to be a work of art book akin to a visual artist's book publication. So I bought it on that basis. I do own some artists books like that. Somewhere I've a jigsaw piece from a yoko Ono installation. (You could take them)

It's also purple. Obviously that's important

I’m seriously considering stopping licence fee

I strongly believe the BBC was good at one point, and R6 fosters music scene in U.K. so not something I thought I’d do

But how else do you tell an organisation you are not happy with how captured they are

Signalbox · 15/09/2023 08:36

I saw Róisín do an acoustic set in a small venue in Guildford last night. It was brilliant and packed. Her fans are obviously not that bothered by what she said.

Biffology · 15/09/2023 09:06

Over on the other thread, evidence is emerging of an agenda at the BBC - it seems they can't play any Roisin Murphy's music but a song with the lyric 'Kick TERFs all day' is absolutely fine by them...

She's announced her tour!

I would suggest that being unbothered by the furore is, in itself, an act of defiance - in my book. That interview where Roisin has said she's not a 'cause' person pretty much sets out her position and that's fine - she's a musical artiste.

Though I might add that this situation we've been involved in shows that not being a cause person should, in fact, be treated as a cause, in itself - this is because the cancellers do not tolerate the idea of apoliticism - you're either fully signed-up or you're the enemy.

Obviously, that way lies madness.

Róisín Murphy, Guildford: a grooving display of unity unbothered by the furore

Following a row about puberty blockers, the Irish singer’s intimate performance of her new album felt risky. But it was a calm, joyous night

Did anyone watch that Newsnight interview with Kirsty Wark interviewing the excruciatingly pretentious RY X.

No pushback at all from KW.

KW: Do you support that alledged cancellation (of Róisín Murphy by Ninja Tunes)

RY X: You know what I think about this and as a large and zooming back and thinking about the idea of accountability verses cancel culture. For me there’s a really interesting idea about how do we hold people accountable and allow them to be surrounded by people reflecting to them their communication and their choices. Obviously, we need boundaries in society and we need to know when to cut people who are saying and / or leading in unhealthy ways but at the same time the idea of accountability is this much more beautiful reflective surface where people can grow and become their own role models by saying “I honour that I made mistakes and I’m prepared to stand in that”. And I think at this point a situation like this is a good example of where we need to look at it and say how do we hold accountability and also allow there to be a reframing and a relearning.

He was so beardedly boring I glazed over within 10 seconds actually. Thanks for going to the extent to type it out!

My DH says KY X puts him in mind of the Dead Kennedys' song California Über Alles...

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles and never frowns
Soon I will be president
Carter power will soon go 'way
I will be Führer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California
Zen's fascists will control you
Hundred percent natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face
Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big bro on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back, you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California
Now it is 1984
Knock, knock at your front door
It's the suede denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece
Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes, here's a pretty flower
Die on organic poison gas
Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California

Fuck me, what a prick.

PaterPower · 15/09/2023 13:32

Not my cup of tea, tbh, but just ordered a physical copy anyway. Perhaps one of the sprogs will like it.

I am cancelling my tv licence, I hardly ever watch Iplayer anyway and never watch tv live so won't miss it, but even it I did watch it I would give it up as I refuse to fund this misogyny with my hard earned cash

Biffology · 15/09/2023 14:49

The 'Punch A TERF' people need to be held accountable, as do the BBC. Thus far, for me, both are guilty-as-charged.

That blah-merchant is just being given enough rope, BTW. Do they have children ?

Biffology · 15/09/2023 15:01

They need to be apologising to us.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 18:59

Good article.

'Could this be a watershed moment for cancel culture? '

Gosh, I don't know. Shall we have a look-see at how Glinner's memoir is selling? Or how the Harry Potterverse is doing?

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 15/09/2023 19:17

I've bought her album. I believe it's doing really well.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 19:18

The circus is losing its frightening aura, though, isn't it.

Being 'cancelled' is starting to look like SOP.

Did nobody ever read these people the 'boy who cried wolf'?

Biffology · 15/09/2023 19:27

All they'll have left to play on the radio is misogynistic propaganda..
