We’re finding out who the cowards are.

The kind of people in western countries who have a woman problem, also tend to have certain views about the Middle East. I predict chanting.

There was a falling out on Greta's self indulgent cruise to Gaza. Some of the Turkish activists kicked off because of the Queers for Gaza types (I believe they were also Turkish and turkeys).

Biffology · 27/10/2025 15:14

'I believe they were also Turkish and turkeys' .. Campaigning for Xmas.

Turkey is relatively liberal for gay and lesbian people, compared to other Middle Eastern countries.

This doesnt' mean it's liberal by UK standards. By any means.

'Non-artists may wonder why someone would feel compelled to risk fresh waves of vitriol from zealous artist-activists. But freedom in the arts requires authenticity; appreciating - but never beholden to - the demands of your audience.
I asked Roisin Murphy why now felt the moment to speak unequivocally.

“I know I need to create,” she told me. “I’ve been avoiding it. I need a clean slate. I think of who it could be for when I write, and I want to think happy thoughts. I need the audience to be a muse, the muse, and I need to love them, or I can’t find it in me.”
We’ve been living through a social-media-turbo-charged era of authoritarian, genderist dominance. It’s caused cruel, still under-appreciated harm. A true artist feels compelled to address that directly.
So, welcome, Roisin Murphy! Come on in - the water’s boiling. But, I promise, it gets easier to withstand.'

It is time we all got in, tbh. If we can withstand a little heat, it lessens the temperature for everyone.

I used to listen to 6Music all day long until they started over-relying on identity hires like Blessed Madonna a few years ago. It became unlistenable very quickly, and felt like long-time listeners were being pushed out. Now we know why. What a grotty person she is.

Why these blinkered people see fit to behave so disgracefully in the face of class acts like Roisin and JKR remains beyond me.

And pulling RM from festival bills is just appalling. They show their true colours at least, but it’s cold comfort to someone making a living.

Biffology · 28/10/2025 11:27

My take is that Roisin went on tour and we were all there, with some new people too. 🤓

None of the people I spoke to were angry - they were generally in the ‘can’t trans away the gay and shouldn’t try to’ group. So they were happy.

The majority of the ‘I’ve been here x years’ lot are just saying that, for effect.

People who’ve been there x years don’t play those cards - don’t have ‘em.

So the only thing stopping a perfectly viable tour from going ahead is the ‘activists’.

'...freedom in the arts requires authenticity; appreciating - but never beholden to - the demands of your audience.'

The 'vets' in the audience will know this one - 'expectations' have been an 'easy tiger' issue since 'I am going solo and this is how I'm going to do it' back in 2005 - i.e. 20 years.

CMAT, again…. Ffs

It sounds like C-TWAT is afraid a bit of accidental truthing might occur.

I wondered how the other side would ever cotton on to our foolproof "let them talk" strategy.

Biffology · 29/10/2025 14:10

Meanwhile, Roisin and Co were in Wiesbaden Germany last night and it was, er, Fun For Them. 🤓

Biffology · 29/10/2025 14:26

The 'Pink News' -type press have claimed that people were 'booted off' the Istanbul festival, etc, 'Ooh, aren't we so powerful ?!' But I suspect there'll be an appearance from the Bob Vylan Fan Club, chanting and so on, and if that takes place, it won't be mentioned by people who would happily join in, given the chance. Thin evidence, thus far, for them being uber-tolerant peaceniks, teaching the rest of us how to make a better world, etc.

Okay, we're in a place where things appear to be under control and, yes this is Mumsnet and no I'm not a mum, so it might be time for me to start thinking about Phase 2 of all of this - what is up with men who do this stuff and what do other men do about it ? We've worked together for a while now so feel free to share your ideas and suggestions, which I will treat as 'people who know about these things and trust me enough to tell me candidly (thankyou for that, oh Brave Mums of Mumsnet - love it) say xyz' Floor's open. .

Edited

It's great that you're feeling motivated to do stuff 👏👏

There's definitely lots happening already so my suggestion would be to be to a) work out which angle interests you most and find out what's already going on in that field that you might be able to contribute to or (if it's not yet happening) lead and b) once you've got a feel for how you want to contribute, work out what you want to do IRL and how best to balance that with protecting your anonymity. Even though public awareness about the harms associated with gender identity belief is growing, it's still unfortunately not something that many people can speak openly about.

If you're specifically looking for inspirational men, perhaps who are connected in some way to the arts, it's worth having a look at what Mr Menno has been doing. His quirky videos are an amazing way to share key information about the impact of gender identity belief on LGB people, vulnerable adults and children, women's rights and more.

BonfireLady · 01/11/2025 15:21

Ps obviously I shouldn't assume that you want to remain anonymous but I do imagine that for most people, protecting their own anonymity remains key. Róisín Murphy is incredible for speaking out in her own name publicly and I have no doubt that it will get easier and easier to do so, as more people like her (JKR, Graham Linehan etc etc) step forward. However, we're not there yet and I don't think anyone expects people to do more than they feel comfortable with.
