The government, the law, have been brought back to reality. Education is on its way, as is the NHS.

The arts remain absolutely riddled with all the luxury belief you could wish for - all those 'protect the dolls' useful idiots, etc. Every publisher, theatre, every arts organisation - funnily enough the orthodoxy is most rigorously enforced in the arts, and dissent is absolutely verboten. You'd imagine artists would be better at spotting the authoritarianism and protesting it, but then again. Most are in precarious situations financially, beholden to the type of Quangos that LOVE some sanctimonious hierarchical bullying, and many others are just very very privileged. The bubble is pure, and self reinforcing.

Biffology · 23/10/2025 19:03

A grotesquely bloated balloon of narcissism and groupthink that can be pricked.

ArabeIIaScott · 23/10/2025 19:06

Certainly, there are plenty of pricks to go round.

Biffology · 23/10/2025 19:07

Never been mad about The Boy. He can flounce off into his footnote of pop-music history.

WarriorN · 23/10/2025 19:24

I note Boy George tried to do a similar Big Idea Tweet about be kind or something a few days ago. Hardly any interest

O'Dowd was part of the trigger for Roisin's going back onto X, to up the ante. He's long stopped being who he was. I've read Take It Like A Man and he definitely changed, for the worse, with the smack. That stuff ruined him.

It looks like he started trading on his past and people with government funding to do things, were happy to bring him in.

He lapped that up and thought that meant he was A Big Deal his part of culture and don't you dare disagree cos that means you're homophobic. Since then, he thinks he is The Voice Of The Mysterons and if he doesn't like someone (and isn't that an awful lot of people) he can just point his finger and they disappear.

The arts are going to be the last to comply.

which is an issue for schools and children. Galleries and Museums that are free have to prove their educational credentials. But they don’t follow the same safeguarding and curriculum guidance. (Indeed they follow horrors such as this - the Leicester uni trans guidance https://www.freedominthearts.com/fita-legal)

Schools like to prove they’re rich in the arts; Artsmarks (an ACE quality mark) demand that schools foster close relationships with arts venues and artists. The pshe lead may be making sure the school’s curriculum complies with the latest guidance but will an arts mark lead or the art and music teachers? In the drama teacher clued up enough or a an ex actor who wanted more stablility? - we have two fab teachers who are this. But you could easily have more captured ex drama / theatre bods.

That Roisin tweet is basically what we think - what we concluded in 2023.

That's right.

It's not uncommon for agents to advertise for 'female-identifying' singers or dancers. Which is utterly confusing. Do they mean a man who identifies as a woman? Or do they mean females plus anyone who thinks they are a woman, in which case the women applying don't identify as women, they are women.

Hopefully brave artists like Roisin can help change things.

CMAT would probably like to be Róisín Murphy..🙄

And hey, CMAT, Róisín has all the 'help' she needs - we're all shoulder-to-shoulder with her.✊

That's a shame. I like CMAT but it seems like she's a bit of a twit.

'A Certain Other Irish Pop Star'
t-shirt, size M please😃

It's a shame the weather is too cold to wear my Róisín M t-shirt.
There is a very nice RM hoodie too, but it's £60+ and I just can't see myself ever spending that much on a hoodie, no matter how wonderful.

MarieDeGournay · 23/10/2025 22:22

I'm not on X - I hope there's support for Róisín?

You can subscribe on her website
Mickey Murphy's Daughter Limited
Gosh I didn't expect that to be the link! It is to the RM website, I promise!

There's space on the subscribe form that says
'special requests'
and I'm going to put in something supportive and admiring.

It's a huge issue for culture, society, and everyone when the arts are policed, diminished, thwarted, misshapen and bullied to fit an orthodoxy, especially one that is based on clear and obvious untruths. It's corrosive, trashes standards, destroys trust, and without trust, we end up in more hostile, dangerous places.

TBH while obviously women's rights and children's rights are deeply intertwined with this issue, the imposition of absurd ideology and the authoritarianism is almost a whole fight on its own itself.

LittleJustice · 23/10/2025 23:01

We thought we were going to be seeing her support confidence man tomorrow in Manchester but it appears she was cancelled some time ago due to what she said previously.

I guess she's reached the end of the line with this cancellation nonsense and thinks she has nothing further to lose.

I am selfishly very disappointed because she's so amazing live but at the same time am absolutely delighted she's one of us.

There's plenty of support : Bev Jackson, Julie Bindel, Rosie Duffield, the Transgender Trend people, all excellent folk to have at your shoulder.

I may not get her music but I admire RM deeply. What a principled, articulate, courageous woman.

The Arts and Media will fight to the end, I'm afraid, as both are populated by the most privileged in our society. They can afford the luxury beliefs and have the resources to crush those who don't play along.

Yep. I suppose the arts are unofficially 'headed' by people who really live lives untethered to reality.

An artist's role is to test and question and subvert; to do that one has to site oneself outwith norms and apart from the rest of the world. That dislocation from reality, coupled with few financial limitations, and a life surrounded by others who have similar porous and malleable boundaries can end up with moral relativism and amorality with no boundaries at all. And then others think this is a model to follow.

It does leave the sphere vulnerable to this kind of decadent rationalising of absurdities. It can get very warped; especially when vested interests are keen to ensure it gets that way.

OMG. She's amazing. What a roast, as my kids would say 😂😂😂

I really hope that other people in the public eye in the music industry (and arts industry in general) are watching her refusal to kowtow to the DARVO and coercion... and gaining the confidence to do the same.

Go Roisin 💪🔥💪🔥💪🔥

(And sorry that I called you Resin. I can't remember where the accents go, but I know I've seen it somewhere. I didn't want to put them in the wrong place and accidentally create a different word that was worse!)

What an idiot. Me, not Róisín.

Of course I've seen it somewhere. The screenshot, for example 🤦‍♀️
