Roisin vs Róisín isn't too bad - better than caca vs. cáca - 'cáca' means 'cake', the first word doesn't need translation..
Or lon vs lón - blackbird vs lunch!

The accent is called a 'fada' [fahdah] and that means long, so it goes over a vowel to show that it is long rather than short.
So Roisin would be pronounced rushin, Róisín is rowsheen.

I quite like what I've heard of CMAT's music, and she's certainly an interesting person and artist. She could be 'grand' as we say here if she wasn't so steeped in genderwoo, and the intolerance and nastiness that seems to goes with it.

It seems nowadays to earn a living in the arts you need to come from privilege. It's not just the nepo babies, it's the sprogs of wealthy parents who have the cushion of their parents money. This may intersect with all the trans identifying kids that celebrities seem to be sporting. Even if they're not trans themselves they're going to move in the same circles and they will be desperate to avoid getting 'cancelled'.

Róisin's music isn't to my taste unfortunately, I wish it was, but I'm not the biggest fan of Harry Potter either. I've said of JKR that she's not my favourite writer, but she's my favourite writer. So I can say Róisin Murphy isn't my favourite musician, but she's my favourite musician.

I loved Róisin's show. I wouldn't have been if it wasn't for another Mumsnetter, but will definitely go again. She has great showmanship and there was a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone enjoying themselves and not bothered that she was supposed to be cancelled.

My thoughts: lots of people are mentally unstable.

There are people who have been pushed to the edge of their own sanity on the "GC" side of everything as well e.g. parents who have been fighting hard to keep their children safe, detransitioners who recognise that their previous decisions now carry a life-long consequence, women fighting to be heard about why they needed single-sex spaces while they were dismissed as bigots.

But yes, on the face of it, the most ardent of the TRAs do seem to struggle with this.

I watched someone start off fairly reasonable but as time went on and they became more and more upset by 'misgenderings' then they started to get a bit funny with people who were probably just completely bamboozled by the whole situation.

They don’t seem too eager to practice the tolerance and acceptance that they expect from everyone else.

All too happy to stand in judgement on everyone else but a big blind spot over their own attitudes and behaviour.

Thing is, Twitter/X is providing the rest of us with ample black-and-white evidence of their toxicity. They appear to have overlooked this fact.

In a nutshell, they claim to be great people and regard themselves as such but provide little evidence of that greatness.

Twitter, in particular, seems to exacerbate the paranoiac aspects of the ideology, where all thought or opinion which diverges from their dogma, must be eliminated.

It’s almost no longer about anything that relates to the real world - just a compulsive desire to destroy, which overtakes them.

They basically set women an impossible expectation. Why ? I suspect it’s to shift blame onto women, for the punishment that gets meted out, when those impossible expectations are not met.

Opportunists can then weaponise that mechanism, of expectation and punishment, to serve their own sociopathic ends.

Me too! She's obviously completely fucking had it up to here and I am right behind her. I cried reading her latest tweet earlier. Absolutely magnificent stuff - really glorious. She's going to need a lot of support in the coming days and weeks

Me too. Trans activists try to blackmail people into compliance. Basically do what we say or we will destroy your career. I'm glad she told them to get fucked. I do hope the repercussions aren't too severe for her though because we know how toxic the music and arts scene is when it comes to this issue,. She is very brave.

As a related aside, Boy George seems to consistently put the word "trans" in quote marks when he writes it - I've added a screenshot of a couple of examples below.

I absolutely recognise this. Women being put on a pedestal and 'adored', but only as long as they behave a certain way. The second they show signs of being a real human being - saying no, asserting an opinion - they're torn to shreds
