Comedy event cancelled at the Fringe because of Glinner?

I hadn't seen anything about this on X/Twitter previously, but apparently some activists have been putting pressure on the venue and they've cancelled an upcoming event called Comedy Unleashed because one of the comedians is Graham Linehan. How utterly pathetic. https://twitter.com/UnleashedComedy/status/1691476377793409024?s=20 Seems to be organised by/associated with Andrew Doyle, aka Titania McGrath.

The real comedy all along was Glinner trying to find a venue, not the actual show himself.

Well played and thanks for the laugh.

How foolish are you? He and Comedy Unleashed have had so much support. The show went on, and I am sure the London show will sell out too.

People are hearing about what happened and the UK public is not responding with positivity with shows being cancelled and protested. There is now a renewed focus on the authoritarianism and totalitarianism of the extreme trans activists.

Do you think this had been a ‘win’? Whatabout when the venue loses in court? Winning still???

I'm sure whatever show the Fringe had on tonight was more exciting than this.

Graham Linehan giving a hateful diatribe about transpeople to a bunch of old people.

Blimey? So much ageism.

So, you saw the show then? I await the transcript that will inevitably turn up, to confirm it was as you said.

I suspect though that you are making shit up. I suspect you to be as dishonest as you have shown yourself to be ageist and clueless about safeguarding.

JanesLittleGirl · 17/08/2023 22:29

I may be wrong, I may be right but I'm perfectly willing to swear
That as I walked you home last night

Glinner performed in front of a delighted audience while Leith Arches tried to work out how bad things could be.

IcakethereforeIam · 17/08/2023 22:15

I think it's sad what the Leith Arches are claiming now. If they are to be believed, they were forced to cancel Andrew Doyles booking not because of a pile on from random Internet wankers but because they were strong armed by regular customers. People they had built a relationship with, who they might have considered friends. Well, now they know, it's just transactional. And nothing is acceptable except complete and utter compliance.

I thought this too. They've seen what Glinner has gone through and are shitting themselves that their business could be cancelled.

It is no surprise how touchy Scotland are about people who raise concerns about actual paedophiles. What with them being so close to (aka founded) PIE and the thread that ran directly through to the Scottish Parliament...

The info is all there if you want to go find it.

There's the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry, currently ongoing. The number of sadists and paedophiles that were active in Scottish schools is utterly appalling

I thought they said this right from the start. That one of their regular customers alerted them to who the surprise guest was, and the cancellation was to show that their "close relationship" to the LGBTQI+ community meant that they wanted to show their support and cancelled.

Not sure the internet had anything to do with it.

Until the intern posted the cancellection notice.

ApocalipstickNow · 18/08/2023 00:23

See, this is the problem the very vocal TRAs have.

So many people have gone along with this because they’re kind, nice people- not the ones who post death/rape threats/online abuse- the ones who say “how does it hurt you to go along with this” or “these people are badly mistreated by so many” but they are not in the slightest bit invested. They don’t follow the noisy TRAs on social media, they don’t read FWR, they see d-list celebs on daytime TV and they half listen and nod along.

Sowhen the anger, spite and hatred that is driving all this- not the “lovely trans friends who just want to be left alone etc” the movers and shakers with murky pasts, personality disorders and chancers that have pushed and pushed to get discourse shut down, dissenters silenced, questions blocked finally breaks into mainstream consciousness THERE IS NO ONE TO SUPPORT IT. The general public who see Hayley Cropper being bullied don’t want to be associated with it. Because they’re not invested in trans rights at all. They’re just doing the right thing by people they see as marginalised and vulnerable without putting in any effort.

So your hard core “celeb” supporter, like OJ and some of the comedy types, will continue to push the narrative they’ve been given to be RIght Side of History, but most people will scratch their heads and turn away, dropping pronouns from signatures, carry on reading Harry Potter and just pretend they never knew a thing.

There’s no real support and it’ll dry up like a puddle on a hot day, like it was never there to begin with.

Too much stuff is out there now that the public do not want in their name.

Would you like to reword that, at all? It kind of sounds like the whole nation of Scotland was somehow involved in founding PIE. And I'm pretty sure that's not your intention.

<touchy Scot here>

The grapes are very sour aren't they?

"Yeah well you're all old and ugly anyway."

Absolute childish, spiteful petulance.

Obviously not everyone in Scotland...

A very large number of the people in charge do seem to have a vested interest in continuing this ideology...

This appears to be the last resort.

'You're all old and you're going to DIE'

You could wonder if the denial of mortality is a common theme. If it's possible to change sex, then just <not ever dying> is probably a piece of cake.

I didn’t think my opinion of Peter Tatchell could get any lower.

He writes an account of a child from a family which was unable to protect him, who ended up in care, and who was groomed into child prostitution, at the age of 11, by another prostituted child in the same children’s home, who was raped by one of the paedophiles sexually abusing those vulnerable children, and Peter Tatchell’s key message is: isn’t it awful that it’s not legal for these two sexually exploited children to have sex with each other. And that account is still on his website. How on earth is Peter Tatchell being given airtime and treated as if he were a respected and expert figure, while those who want to protect women and children are being villified?

That tweet. He’s completely unashamed and unapologetic.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 18/08/2023 09:38

Of course he is, he's feted by the media who blindly refuse to actually do any investigative journalism. Makes you wonder why that is.

I am absolutely not being an apologist for Peter Tatchell in any way but I think the after effects of the Bermondsey by election in which the coverage of his candidacy was very homophobic has made the media reluctant to criticise him. His image is that of the brave campaigner. He also has his own Foundation who can present him in a favourable light. I doubt many of his supporters have ever seen the The Guardian article or the book chapter.

Well said. So many red flags.
He's still celebrated because of some of his early brave work in challenging homophobia with too many people (the media, the Met police and many in schools) ignoring his dangerous views about young children and sex. If he didn't run an organisation that goes into schools to talk to children about sex, his views might be repellant but have little impact.
As he self identifies as a sex educator of children, his views are dangerous and in anyone else, he'd be rightly cancelled from being anywhere near children in schools.
