Comedy event cancelled at the Fringe because of Glinner?

I hadn't seen anything about this on X/Twitter previously, but apparently some activists have been putting pressure on the venue and they've cancelled an upcoming event called Comedy Unleashed because one of the comedians is Graham Linehan. How utterly pathetic. https://twitter.com/UnleashedComedy/status/1691476377793409024?s=20 Seems to be organised by/associated with Andrew Doyle, aka Titania McGrath.

Someone with clout needs to join the dots and start ranting.

Focus on the children. Always focus on the children.

Couldn’t agree more, @AutumnCrow

The cases he mentioned are easily googlable. They're not 'allegations' - David Challenor's case was widely reported.

This is the thing, no one is making this shit up - it’s real. TRA’s like our chum Jan have to pretend that the GL said all trans people are paedos as a strawman because what GL actually said is true, it’s just that the ‘trans figures’ aren’t necessarily trans themselves, it’s the doctors, theorists and allies, including allies within political parties, like that green councillor in Leeds.

happydappy2 · 17/08/2023 09:49

Is it legally correct to refer to someone who was in the past convicted of a criminal offence, as a criminal? (Even if that conviction is deemed spent.) A certain person is fuming...

Yeah, some of it is protected by defamation (ie it’s not libel if it’s true).

"nearly all central trans figures are nonces" is not true though.

WorriedMutha · 17/08/2023 09:58

I am intrigued by Talk TV going silent on this. Took the video down. Silence on the interviewer's feed and JHB not covering this morning. Are they rowing back. Normally they like controversial topics as lots of clicks and coverage but I'm just wondering if there's pushback on this?

You can pronounce the show I.T. or it.

I guess you could if you wanted to miss the whole joke. But I doubt if anyone who knows enough about Graham Linehan's work as to pronounce him a 'genius' would.

Depends on who you consider the ‘central trans figures’ to be.

The last 70 years of Queer Theory and Sexology are riddled with noncery.

If your idea of ‘central trans figures’ are contemporary YouTubers then yes, I can see why you would think GL’s assertion is untrue. That would be a very shallow understanding of Transgenderism though.

Helleofabore · 17/08/2023 10:04

I wonder what that presenter standing in on Piers uncensored thought of this when she did her due diligence on choosing guest.

Warning: tatchell discussing child sex abuse

This.

So, according to the venue,

We work very closely with the LGBT+ community, it is a considerable part of our revenue, we believe hosting this one off show would have a negative effect on future bookings.
“The decision was not influenced by the pressure of online activists, but by our regular community who use this space on a daily, weekly and [monthly] basis.”

Using that logic, if a venue was say, a working men's club, frequented by Britain First types and the "surprise" comedian was Dave Chappelle, they could cancel the gig on the grounds that their racist clientele didn't like it rather than the fact Dave is black?

Yes. Foucault and Money are the central figures of this movement because it is all based on queer theory.

Hard to argue those two central figures are not paedophiles. But hey… it is a new day. Let’s see it!

Or maybe posters are denying the origins of current gender identity ideology?

If you're a fan Graham's work you'll know you can pronounce it both ways.

Datun · 17/08/2023 10:16

I can understand the TRA panic over giving Glinner a massive microphone. I can understand the panic over the possibility of the (highly entertaining) legal repercussions as a result of snatching it away.

This entire thread is peppered with it. You can hear it from space.

What I will never, ever understand is them actually drawing attention to the 'unclothed minors' which turns out to be the surgeons' own fucking pictures of mutilated children.

but it doesn't stop, does it?

We've now got

For fuck's sake! I'm actually snorting here.

i'm seeing that episode of friends and the card tricks by Joey. Is this one a nonce? Is this one? What about this one?

Let's get all these complaints into court, turn on all the lights and open all curtains.

With any amount of luck, people exactly like Planet will all be called to give evidence.

The point is that I don't believe her when she said she was a fan of his work. I don't believe any journalist who was would have used that pronunciation as it would make them look foolish. I think her 'fallen genius' angle was hackneyed and she had no knowledge of the facts he was presenting to her. Feel free to have a different opinion!

IcakethereforeIam · 17/08/2023 10:16

Thanks for posting that Derrick Jensen YouTube. I've been wracking my brain trying to remember his name. He lays it out very clearly, the paedophilia and paedophilic sympathies of the central figures of transgenderism.

And the childish petulance of those who don't want to hear the truth of it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/08/2023 10:16

I have literally never heard anyone else pronounce it that way, in nearly 2 decades. But you do you.

So now they're saying all their customers hold discriminatory views 🤣

Why would it make her look foolish, both pronunciations are correct.
