Women's rights general conversations - Thread 6

Continuation of Thread 5.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Reading the comments so far, I think I'll give that thread a swerve. It's not going to add to the sum total of my happiness, is it?

IcakethereforeIam · 03/09/2023 00:14

Reason I stopped watching the Walking Dead was because I reckoned the odds of a happy ending were slim to none. I feel much the same way about that thread.

MouseMinge · 03/09/2023 02:18

I started reading the personal experiences of trans widows on a trans widows site earlier which I meant to post here but it's on my laptop and now I'm on my mobile. I'll link tomorrow. It's incredibly sad. I find myself thinking about trans widows a lot recently, they're treated like the detritus of the whole happy happy experience of men who decide that their desire to dress up is more important than anything or anyone else.

I went to a disco for women and girls 11 up yesterday. It was bit quiet but I still had so much fun my legs hurt.

That shitshow of a thread made me think of this -

for the record, "challenging the earth's flatness," as you so glibly put it, is only adding insult to injury. The pervasive abuse of people who know best, aka him, is the injury.

The planet is a bigot.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/09/2023 19:58

I wonder why someone calling himself FredaWallace woke this zombie thread up? It's got 1000 posts too.

Biological SEX MATTERS. How many mumsnetters say "aye" to this campaign?

MavisMcMinty · 03/09/2023 20:53

Eh? I’m getting nothing, is that the joke?

duc748 · 03/09/2023 21:06

Well, that's FredaWallace, it seems, in the video.

MavisMcMinty · 03/09/2023 21:08

Ah, the video refuses to play for me, maybe because I refused to sign up, although I’ve never had to sign up to watch Tiktok videos before.

duc748 · 03/09/2023 20:04

nope! and you can't make me.

i lasted 11 seconds.

life is too short for that shit. I had to watch the poem recital of Freda talking about shagging everyones husbands the other day. That was a poem too many!

suddenly realises why i'm not in a poemy mood!

Is it?

Just looks like a portly middle aged bloke in a chazza shop wedding dress to me…

That thread was over 5 years old? Does Freda not understand mumsnet?

now if it had been a middle aged bloke in a wedding dress and a bobble hat that would have been a different video entirely!!

MouseMinge · 03/09/2023 22:05

I've just gone to the transwidows' site and it appears to be down. For anyone who would like to go and read any testimonies when it's up and running again the web address is transwidowsvoices.org.

dunBle · 04/09/2023 07:08

It's back up now.

Britinme · 04/09/2023 12:40

Good article about the plight of trans widows in India here: https://unherd.com/2023/09/the-fate-of-indias-trans-widows/?tlinbound=1&tllgroups%5B0%5D=18743&tlperioddtype=3

I'm a regular listener of The Rest Is History (and from some of the things they've obliquely said, they're at least somewhat on The Wrong Side of it). Today's episode was, I found, particularly relevant with regards to some of the recurring themes of Genderism; they pointed out how de Sade's disturbing philosophy was a huge influence on the PoMo kiddie-fiddling heroes and their reality-denying kink-celebrating sex-positive boundary-bulldozing everything-goes Queer Theory ideological progeny.

The relationship board saved my life. And that is no exaggeration.
I stayed on that board for years, and will return when I have gathered New strength.

Both that board and this are legends in our own time for sound advice and clarity of mind.

"the PoMo kiddie-fiddling heroes and their reality-denying kink-celebrating sex-positive boundary-bulldozing everything-goes Queer Theory ideological progeny."

Such a fine way with words, kuc!

angelico53 · 04/09/2023 19:02

Just lost a longish post, dammit.

the tl;dr is that the Sex and Gender Reader was excellent. Even the bits I didn't understand.
