Women's rights general conversations - Thread 6

Continuation of Thread 5.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

BobbleFlump is the best i can come up with! my head isn't very creative today.

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/08/2023 16:04

I like Beaniejuice, especially given how the individual under advisement pops up when their names are mentioned.

Reminds me of The Curious Incident Relating to The Terrible Bundles.

Boiledbeetle · 24/08/2023 17:59

If mumsnet did profile photos...

MouseMinge · 24/08/2023 23:49

Good to know what the hat thing was all about. I was quite confused. Now that I know how it relates to Beaniejuice I can rest easy!

Boiled! How dare you sully the memory of a beloved childhood TV program by associating it with that image!

But but but I was not the person who originally posted a flump photo thereby putting the connection in my head.

Now obviously the threads are gone so I can't go back and check therefore I am 100000000% positive the first flump reference was thrown by@IcakethereforeIam

(Remembers there are archived threads out there that could categorically prove me wrong... meh)

IT WAS CAKE! CAKE DID IT!

And that your honour is why I am innocent of all charges!

On a different note I watched this last night. I've watched it before but it's a good way to spend half an hour!

It's from about six months ago but It's very funny!

Love her! Thanks for the link, and I recommend that you all read the subtitles, which are not set up for a Scottish accent.

MouseMinge · 25/08/2023 13:03

That book looks excellent but is currently outside my price bracket. I'll put it in my basket for a future where I may be able to afford it!

MouseMinge · 25/08/2023 13:05

Thanks for the comedy link and the unherd article. I'll watch/read those later. I do love this thread!

mach2 · 25/08/2023 21:52

This thread has great links but I've got loads of tabs open and there's only so many hours in a day. 😆

Sorry not sorry mach! Grin

Another one for you, I finally got round to listening to this episode of Triggernometry in which Hannah Barnes talks about her book. It's harrowing listening, even though she tries very hard to keep her comments as measured and neutral as possible.

Very sad that all conversation around a certain police force’s actions is stopped here, and I presume that’s because we don’t want more pressure brought to bear on MNHQ.

(for anyone who things I’m being too vague, I refer them to the recent thread in site stuff that was closed “overnight” several days ago)

MmePoppySeedDefage · 26/08/2023 12:09

Really? Blimey.

MavisMcMinty · 26/08/2023 12:46

The threads were so busy - even “trending” some of the time - and up for so many days, there can’t be many MNers who didn’t see them at all. Several “peakers” amongst the posters, iirc.

Heh, I enjoyed that, especially the last few minutes on new rules by all the swimming, athletics and cycling organisations. Lia Thomas helped win it for women, God love ‘im.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/08/2023 17:50

Good video, thanks for the link. Thomas has gone a long way to peaking the world, bless him.

MouseMinge · 27/08/2023 00:50

I do like Mr Menno. He's so gently spoken and seems like an all round top dude. Or, as we used to say back in the days of the Guardian Talk, he's a lovely bunch of lads.

bignosebignose · 27/08/2023 09:47

GBOL is the thing these days, mouse. Great bunch of lads/ lasses
