Continuation of Thread 5.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Barking.

The Beardo Massive is fumin'.

duc748 · 14/08/2023 20:27

From Ereshkigalangcleg's link:

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear starmer is listening to a few female MPs in all parties, rather than the thousands of lgbt+ labour members.

Yes, it would be interesting to see a poll of Labour Party LGBT+ members (most of whom are surely LGB, rather than T+ ?) on the subject. The TRAs seem to assume they have the support of gay men and lesbians in general. I think (hope) they are being a bit optimistic.

Winterborne74 · 14/08/2023 20:28

That Reddit thread is insane. They don’t like non-compliant women, do they?

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/08/2023 20:30

Or non-penised.

That post about footer teams was indeed veh interesting. This made me smile:

I bet she has fun!

I used to have fun with builders, they'd come round to price up for work, give me a load of waffle, do the sighing and crap, give me an overinflated price and then I'd tell them what I did for a living!

Now if they came round and were sensible and told the truth and priced decently they got the job.

MouseMinge · 14/08/2023 20:40

I read as far as possible before my "Oh do fuck off!" response became too hard to ignore.

I find it hard to give any credence to a group of men who think the Guardian is an anti-trans rag. What next? The Mail hates the Tories? The Express has never been obsessed with Princess Diana? The Sun thinks that topless women should not be used to sell newspapers? The Star is an intellectual tour de force?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/08/2023 22:07

How far was that, Mouse? I managed 8 posts.

Victoria Smith in Unherd on how Feminists are disowning their feminism.

https://unherd.com/2023/08/the-new-snobbery-towards-feminist-activism/

All about carceral(sp?) feminists, rape victims sending their 'victims' to prison, makes them fascists and racists according to some strands of thought. Putting aside the fact that most never get reported, of the few that do most aren't charged, etc. etc. I'd rather men stopped sexual assaults, rapes, dv, murder but until then. Shitty system, shitty Police, shitty CPS; the victims though, those that do survive, they deserve every ounce of support, shame on those who would decry them.

Anyway, good article.

No, and it comes across that many of them just do not understand why women might need legal protections due to our sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/08/2023 09:55

Alison Phipps is an awful, internally misogynistic fake feminist. Oxfam, investigated for exploiting young women in war torn countries for sex, as far as raping children, used some of Phipps' "anti carceral feminism" material in their training a couple of years back. To paraphrase Mandy Rice Davies, "well they would, wouldn't they?".

Another excellent piece. Victoria Smith is such a smart and thoughtful writer. She always seems to have something useful and constructive to say, on any topic.

DeanElderberry · 15/08/2023 12:10

I first heard the term carceral being flung about on You're Wrong About back when I was naive and innocent. When it's used the criticise the disproportionate level on imprisonment of black people in America, and the weaponising of the three strikes idea, well and good. When it's being used to suggest violent and dangerous offenders shouldn't be imprisoned, not so well and good. Actually, not well and good at all.

We don't have a feminist phrase that's the equivalent of Croppies lie down, but that's what they're saying.

SinnerBoy · 15/08/2023 18:28

It's so true, isn't it?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 15/08/2023 18:47

Seems funny, but it's spot on.

There's been another version from Leith Arches (with less caps) but it's still legally actionable. I believe Joanna Cherry is advising the organisers of the comedy panel.

I'd say they were delighted with themselves writing this. Wonder if the chat with their legal representatives following all this talk of suing has driven them to the cheeky vimto for reasons they weren't expecting?

Think of the support animals.

mach2 · 15/08/2023 20:05

This is appalling. Why is this the first I've heard of it?

Dear light of sanity! That man should be in a cell!
