Continuation of Thread 5.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Iwas on the Stephnaid hayden thread nearly all day yesyerday

duc748 · 19/08/2023 13:43

I'm not drunk, honest! I'll start again:

I was on the Stephanie Hayden thread nearly all day yesterday, where the suggestion for starting another 'intro' thread was made, because of new posters on that thread voicing their horror at what they'd read. The more light shone, the better.

Boiledbeetle · 19/08/2023 13:55

I reckon that thread peaked a lot of people yesterday.

duc748 · 19/08/2023 13:59

Yup.

Boiledbeetle · 19/08/2023 14:16

I'm just reading it, three posts in a row:
Welcome to the coven
Welcome to the terven
Welcome to the nest of vipers.

Ooh hello, how had I missed these threads? Looks like a lot of info to catch up on. Sofa time

Kucinghitam · 19/08/2023 19:56

Welcome! We're very chatty and casual in here, so feel free to just offer up any little snippets that come to mind!

You get to now wonder at the lushness that is the inside of @Kucinghitam head. Sometimes it's just sublime, the way Kuc can put together a selection of seemingly unrelated words into something quite quite beautiful!

Have seen this in a few places today so I'd thought I'd share it

I saw this on Twitter earlier. This is a slightly shorter version of the video - I was on Twitter on my phone and now can't find the tweet - but oh my days, I want to go back in time and have this man as a lecturer for a degree that I wouldn't even be taking. Basically, stays calm amid a group of students, most of whom are there to learn, some of whom are on TRSOH and shouting the odds. But still he persists. I want his calmness. I'd marry him if he walked into my flat right now and asked me!

Grin The inside of my head can be a very strange place Grin

That's a powerful poem @Waitwhat23 - I've saved that to my "memes" album!

Wow @MouseMinge the enraged shouting from TRSOH in that clip was really something. I love how one of them started with the heckle about keeping things "relevant" before they all devolved into totally random (and irrelevant) "phobe!" and "god!" shrieks and jeers. They're absolutely terrified of anybody questioning their religion Queer Theory.

MouseMinge · 19/08/2023 21:29

It's such an on the nose representation of how scared they are of the truth and will reject it even when it's as plain as the (on the) nose on their face. It's proof that they will not listen to even the most calm and rational of people, in fact the calmer and more rational the person they're faced with the louder they'll scream abuse. I found him inspirational. Of course, a lot won't listen but far more will. I was aware of the issues with queer theory and paedophilia but not that it runs through it like a piece of seaside rock.

MavisMcMinty · 19/08/2023 21:33

I’m constantly amazed at how all of this shit completely passed me by, even with my willing avoidance of the subject on all social media because a) it just baffled me and b) didn’t seem at all relevant to me or my life.

When I read Time to Think I suddenly became petrified for my teenage nephews, the 14-year old gay one anyway, although thank God even his macho father who has always preferred his other son was absolutely fine with him being gay. So I gave the book to my sister, who was also peaked by it and has passed it onto friends and colleagues (she’s a health visitor as well as a Mum, thought she should be aware of this stuff in case a client tries to tell her their child is transgender).

The thing is, once you become aware there’s no going back. You can’t be half and half on the subject, there are two apparently irreconcilable sides to the transgender “rights” debate.

MavisMcMinty · 19/08/2023 21:38

…just realised my sister was pregnant with him that time we met up to see that Argentine Tango show, @MouseMinge ! And he’s 15 now!

MouseMinge · 19/08/2023 22:10

Oh my days I remember that night!

And I agree, once your eyes are well and truly open, once you've peaked there's no going back. And, of course, you think you know the worst of it and then, nope, there's more!

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/08/2023 01:14

OK, I'm going to post an archive link in my next post, which will presumably be quarantined. If you want to read this then go to archive dot is and put https://www.telegraph.co.uk/family/life/came-trans-man-elderly-grandfather-surprising-results/ into the lower search bar.

Some parts of this article are interesting (although had the writer not been Charles Moore's nibling, it would never have been published). BUT...

This person thought that the appropriate time to announce their new identity was at their grandfather's funeral. Let me repeat that. AT. THEIR. GRANDFATHER'S. FUNERAL.

Late last year, I received a surprising invitation.

I've found an archive link to the Suzanne Moore piece. I admit I laughed at the iPhone jokeBlush but Boyle's was just nasty.

Oh, I thought it would be quarantined. My pp Suzanne Moore writing in the Telegraph about the cancellation of Glinner and the new Puritans.

That Felix nepobabe so upper middle class. I do wish them all the best regardless.

I've been reading the thread about the woman who had an odd encounter in the loo queue, and wonder did it start somewhere else and get moved here? https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4876027-so-apparently-i-am-a-hateful-bigot-who-knew?page=5&reply=128553851
