I have seen it quoted on here for many years that Tunnocks are to be supported as they support women's rights. I have looked on their website and social media and can see nothing to support this rumour. Does anyone have any evidence? Thanks.

The trans rights activists piled on them on twitter to ask for an apology, which wasn't forthcoming.

They didn't know who LGB-Alliance were until after they donated and didn't know what they were in for. They probably want nothing to do with the whole debate.

I bet they wouldn't have donated to them if they had known.

"Mate, we just like tunnocks."

uh-huh sure.

If Tunnocks suddenly announced they were supportive of Stonewall you would all be saying how horrible their cakes are I'm sure.

Which just goes to show what you know. They don't make cakes.

As i said up thread to a different poster

I honestly couldn't give two shits what their position is, you'll have to prise that tunnocks caramel wafer (milk not dark) out of my dead cold hand

"They don't make cakes."

Apart from teacakes. Or are we going to have a "is it a cake or biscuit" debate too?

They still didn't send a saccharine apology on twitter though which is more than most companies do so good for them.

ThatParent2 · 11/07/2023 21:59

Whatever happened to the Bunbury threads?

BrokeAsABone · 11/07/2023 22:00

It was hilarious that the mad TRAs tried their best to get an apology and got sweet FA.Grin

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 11/07/2023 22:00

Thank fuck for that, I was worried for a minute there!

Actually i wonder what category they do fall into as they aren't cake or biscuits are they. They are just marshmallow resting on a base and covered in chocolate.

Well that's confusing. Blue is for milk chocolate and red is for dark chocolate.

They don't do stereotypes.

A rare thing, the ability to view a testerical trans wailathon and ignore it.

As I said, Merlin must have been gutted, having taken the time to take part in the wailathon, presumably expecting full retraction and a humble apology, only to be rebuffed.

A small shout out here, among all the Tunnock love, for the wonderful person who ran the Birds Eye Twitter account, who calmly responded with a multitude of potatoes when faced with similar.

Anyway, I haven’t had Tunnocks in ages, living outside the UK as I do. Soon however, I will be ripe with wafers and I might throw in a few tea cakes for good measure. Both are wonderful!

Cookiedough41 · 11/07/2023 22:02

They DO make cakes.

They have a bakery on the Main Street in Uddingston which sells amazing cakes but only Uddingston no where else!

See I Never thought of them as a biscuit. But then they are in my mouth without actually looking at a cross section as that would involve not shoving it in my gob on one go!

WhisperingAutistic · 11/07/2023 22:03

I missed the birds eye thing!
I wish more companies would be like tunnocks and not get involved. Just sell me stuff, I don't want to know your politics thanks.

Tunnocks once gifted the LGB-Alliance some teacakes a while back, which led gender critical people to believe that Tunnocks also held a gender critical belief.

However when questioned on it, Tunnocks said something along the lines of "we get requests from charities all the time and we pick one to donate to each week, so this time we just chose the LGB-Alliance but we don't know much about them".

At the time I emailed them to inform them what the LGB-Alliance was actually about and asked them to clarify if they held a view on trans-rights, and all the said in their reply was "thanks for letting us know".

IMO I don't think Tunnocks are TERFs or transphobes, it just so happens that out of all the charities who contacted them for freebies that week, the LGB-Alliance was the ones they picked out of a hat.

Do you ever have a day when you aren't being completely po-faced?

SidewaysOtter · 11/07/2023 22:05

#NoDebate - the VAT case court ruling that a biscuit goes soft when stale, a cake goes hard.

teawamutu · 11/07/2023 22:05

Merlin, I do occasionally wonder what it is you get out of being here.

Is it just the pleasure of scolding wrong-thinking women? Because no matter how much piss you apply to the collective chips, I don't believe you've changed a single mindset.

And therein lies the problem. I Never have a Tunnocks product in my possession long enough for it to "go off"

Oh I disagree. I think our resident genderists change a lot of minds. Just not in the direction they are aiming for.

Legally they are cakes. This ain't a GRC type thing but means that VAT isn't payable so they are 20% cheaper than if they were biscuits.

hang on a cotton picking minute
how did I not know this?

The UK still has local food things going on that the rest of the country don't know / don't get. I love it

Hmmm… I shall add a visit to Uddingston to my list of things to do.

Any particular recommendations?

Boiledbeetle · 11/07/2023 22:26

Main Street Uddingston has just become my No. 1 holiday destination!
