I mean I guess you're assuming i'm Trans lol

No, that hadn't crossed my mind. However according to Stonewall and similar organisations, anyone who declares that they are a woman, is, and it is transphobic and gatekeeping to question that.

When you use she/her to describe a convicted sex offender, who wanked off to images of children, and is so clearly male, do you not find it a bit....odd?

Possessing child pornography is not at all limited to men. It's horrendous and the verdict is laughable but it's not like sexual offences or rape. When I was younger our youth theatre company nearly got shut down because there was ring of child pornography being shared between the set builders, including 1 women set builder and one man

DisgustedOfTidmouth · 05/07/2023 15:33

The inaccuracy in reporting is part of what is causing people to lose trust (if they had any) in the main stream media and pushing people towards getting their news from other, possibly also unreliable, sources.

Blame IPSO. It's their ridiculous guidelines that force it in the media

Of course women can technically commit sex offences. What do you think the ratio of male:female sex offenders looks like from MoJ statistics?

What makes you consider convicted nonce Tanya to be a woman?

Yeah I don't agree with that. You can have a nuanced opinion. I know I have a friend who is Trans and she has gone through hell to get to where she is now but I don't know if there is another way to keep others safe from male predators crossdressing.

Honestly Transgender people will always find a way to transition regardless of our views or opinions, sure it can be made harder but it wont stop. Giving faster routes of access to actually transition instead of waiting 4-5 years for a first appointment might help though

You can't inhabit a reality that is not yours. Only a woman can be a woman, and know what it is to be one.

Indeed. Reminded me of Nagel's What Is It Like To Be A Bat?

"In his article, “What is it like to be a bat?” Thomas Nagel argues that there are facts about conscious experience that are subjective and can only be known from that subjective perspective. Even if we know all the objective facts about bats, we may not actually know what it would really be like to be a bat. We might be able to imagine what it would be like to hang upside down, fly through the night, or use echolocation to track prey, but Nagel argues that we really couldn’t know what a bat’s experience is really like."

Suddenly seem to be an awful lot of great, big, violent women about.

I'm not sure you read this right to be honest. Sex offences by women are incredibly rare. I'm talking about Paedophilia and the owning of sexualised images of minors. There isn't anywhere near as big of a divide here

Quiverer · 05/07/2023 13:42

That's the recollection of an injured and shocked boy. She may well have been quite a bit shorter, and of course she may have been wearing stacked shoes.

And the moon may be made of cheese. And I may be the queen of England one day Who knows!

But we can based on previous reporting of late and sexual assault statistics and the average height differential between men and women think the most likely outcome is that the 6 for 3 she may have been a he.

Ah ok. You think as many women as men get sexual satisfaction from viewing indecent images of children. I see.

DisgustedOfTidmouth · 05/07/2023 15:46

bullying because she was transitioning.
Something that happens in another environment is not automatically linked to the crime, nor is it indicative of motive on the part of the offenders.

The Crown would have to PROVE a link between the bullying and Gray's death.

But are they born female as in sex or did they identify that way at a later date? Because I no longer trust the "statistics" they are skewed

justteanbiscuits · 05/07/2023 15:47

SlashBeef · 05/07/2023 15:21

You don't get to say something isn't offensive to you so you have free reign to call other people it. I'm black, I find the n word offensive and don't wish to "reclaim" it. Does that mean any other black person that doesn't find it offensive is free to call me one?
Don't come over coy and surprised that you're derailing the thread when you're insisting on offending people despite being asked not to.

I hear people here shouting around about how it's offensive to the majority of women. But honestly, in my real life, no one finds it offensive or thinks of it as offensive. MN is the only place I've ever seen anyone say it's offensive!! Women in my life use it quite freely to describe ourselves.

The N word is well known to be offensive. There is plenty of evidence out there. But one website saying they think it's offensive doesn't make it so when it comes to using cis.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 05/07/2023 15:47

I dont care for anyone using the term child 'pornography'. Its images of child abuse. Please don't minimise child abuse.
That poor boy, I really hope they find the assailants, they are obviously dangerous individuals.

Kind of. A Trans women will never have the experiences of childbirth or the positive and negative experiences of growing up as a woman from birth, will skip the pretty shit periods but from what i've heard at least hormone therapy can change a lot not just in terms of the way someone thinks but also physical characteristics etc... and if we allow Transgender women to share these experiences with us free of prejudice then suddenly things become a lot more similar.

It's pretty easy to be salty about Trans Women who come out maybe age 30-40 and have already gained from there male privilege but I suppose from speaking to them they don't see it that way and many are deeply unhappy before transitioning

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 05/07/2023 15:49

I immediately thought the height and hair colour was a give away. Would the victim have described them as women I wonder?

Is me using the term Cis really going to derail this entire conversation because if so i'm kind of a tad ashamed. Anyway i've said my piece I really think we should wait to see what happens.

It's alright you don't need to feel ashamed that you're derailed the thread. It's an easy mistake to make if you don't usually comment on this board. But if you could refrain from using cis on this board that would be great as on this board is it classed as a slur.

ILikeDungs · 05/07/2023 15:53

Stating the obvious, very very few women would do this. Quite a few men, in comparison, are convicted of this and l am sure there are loads of men that are guilty of this but never caught. Fucking big divide.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 05/07/2023 15:53

Also don't care for posters trying to gaslight others into thinking there is only a small divide in the amount of women who access images of child abuse compared to men. No it isn't. It's a huge divide.
If you have to lie to make a point, it isn't a point worth making.

If you're a true feminist though periods and childbirth are not what makes us women. In-fact modern feminism was built on the idea that what makes us a woman is determined by ourselves

DarkDayforMN · 05/07/2023 15:55

RealityFan · 05/07/2023 14:44

Even if this is true, and the victim reported it to the police as such, for the police at the very least not to broadcast "two 6'3" individuals posing as women...", is hugely worrying.

Entirely agreed, of course. It's not a scenario that remotely excuses the cops. It just seems a bit more plausible that they had communicated in some capacity, than to have PC Plod sucking his pen and saying "Pink trainers, you say? A red wig? I deduce that the stranger who assaulted you was actually a woman!"

It's insane that the cops can't be trusted to put out accurate information about the very criminals they're supposed to be looking for.

I wonder what they'd do about trans actors if Crimewatch still existed.

Yeah this has derailed sorry. I feel I should reply to every comment but there are too many. It will clear up after me this is an important thread that is filled with relevant discussion

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 05/07/2023 15:57

Modern feminism has had to take some steps back though hasn't it? You know on account of men taking over women's spaces after they were fought for? We have to reclaim our basic human rights before we can crack on with the modern feminism malarkey.
