An extremely tall woman appeared at a gathering (of all women) I was at last week and first thought was 'that's a bloke' but she wasn't. I'd estimate 6'4" at least and I also suspect Marfan's Syndrome.

Not to say these two ghastly creatures weren't men, of course. Chances are that they are male, as we know.

Clymene · 05/07/2023 15:06

Woman is just fine. We don't need a prefix.

EmpressSoleil · 05/07/2023 15:08

There's not enough info to go on, but...this proves the point that we can no longer trust what we hear/read. Hence the questioning on were they actually women. Honestly, I am kind of sick of it now. I don't care if that makes me transphobic. I'm sick of men sauntering into womens spaces, knowing we can't say or do fuck all about it. Of having to call obvious men "she" and "her". Having to pretend this is all "normal" and I'm totally ok with it. I'm not.

Please don’t use cis on this board. It’s a slur, as well as being meaningless twaddle.

No, because I don't want to stoop to the same level as others for the sake of wokeness. You can't declare something is a slur by re-defining it otherwise we are no worse than Trans people when they declare that you use the correct pronouns regardless. It's political correctness gone wild.

ILikeDungs · 05/07/2023 15:08

evieowlette · 05/07/2023 14:51

There is always the possibility it could be a Trans and Cis woman one as the main offender, another an accomplice. Honestly 2 Trans women in such a small area is already very unlikely.

'Cis' is offensive to women, please refrain

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 05/07/2023 15:08

I'm definitely not cis so it is misgendering me.

"No better than". Wish I could edit posts, that's annoying

Some women. It's not offensive to me, or to any of the women I am friends with. Its a simple, easy descriptor.

JudgeAnderson · 05/07/2023 15:10

'Cis' is offensive to me also. It's not a descriptor of anything outside of its original context.

Worldgonecrazy · 05/07/2023 15:12

There was a trans male on the train this morning. He was wearing trainers, a long black & white skirt, and had a really cheap long red wig. Wrong area but it suggests to me that the two perpetrators should be easily recollected and spottable on cctv.

IsabelleSE19 · 05/07/2023 15:13

This is round the corner from me, I have a son a few years younger than that, and I had no idea this had happened. Genuinely scared and have no idea what I should be looking out for. I know for a fact that there is a transwoman living round here but they are smaller and probably quite a lot older than that. I also know a few tall women, but not that tall!

ILikeDungs · 05/07/2023 15:14

From the MN guidelines: "Likewise, many feminists are affronted by the term ‘cis’ and ‘terf’, so using these terms will make civil debate less likely."

Is me using the term Cis really going to derail this entire conversation because if so i'm kind of a tad ashamed. Anyway i've said my piece I really think we should wait to see what happens.

One of my first thoughts reading this is proximity to Brighton.

" A transwoman who admitted having dozens of indecent images of children has been spared jail after magistrates said they took an "unusual" decision."

This is weird i'm not gonna lie the fact that they just let her off. regardless of identity or sex or whatever.

backinthebox · 05/07/2023 15:20

@evieowlette Using the term ‘trans woman’ is enough to differentiate between women and trans women. I am not confused at all about what a woman is, nor are many of the women I know. If you find it confusing, that’s your problem, but don’t inflict your offensive term on other people just because you are confused. I KNOW it would be offensive to say ‘bloke in a dress’ even when we are discussing a potential rapist. So I don’t, I say ‘trans woman.’ I’m letting you know (in case you didn’t already know - but I suspect you do) that most women are not happy to be called cis women. Probably that is something you want to have a good think about and see if you want to carry on being offensive.

You don't get to say something isn't offensive to you so you have free reign to call other people it. I'm black, I find the n word offensive and don't wish to "reclaim" it. Does that mean any other black person that doesn't find it offensive is free to call me one?
Don't come over coy and surprised that you're derailing the thread when you're insisting on offending people despite being asked not to.

The force in question is Sussex Police. I leave people to come to their own conclusions.

I noticed that and, along with the description would bet my bottom dollar they weren't women.

Thing is I do call Trans Women "Women" and I believe in most ways they are. I don't consider them men at least not the ones who aren't just impersonating women in drag. I know that wont slide here but that's my opinion.

Also the idea behind a trans women only being called the "Women" when they have GRS is so dumb because it costs so much and it's essentially an open wound for the rest of your life, it's very dangerous. Anyway this is un-related to this post really so that's my last comment on it

JudgeAnderson · 05/07/2023 15:25

By current thinking that is a deeply transphobic statement.

You can't inhabit a reality that is not yours. Only a woman can be a woman, and know what it is to be one. Anything else is pure masquerade, guesswork, impersonation. They are all female impersonators, no matter what their heads are telling them.

I mean I guess you're assuming i'm Trans lol. Understandable, I just read a lot. I don't think it's transphobic, you've seen how opportunistic men get when self ID is introduced

When you use she/her to describe a convicted sex offender, who wanked off to images of children, and is so clearly male, do you not find it a bit....odd?
