It’s a shame that all the parties are absolutely awful. I would not give my vote to any of them.

borntobequiet · 03/07/2023 07:10

Patronising, exploitative, disingenuous bastards, the lot of them. Do they actually care one jot about women? Not at all. Just about their votes.
”Take-a-break” indeed.

GreyCarpet · 03/07/2023 07:18

There's an awful lot of talk about women from the politicians in that article...

Perhaps they need to start with being confident about what a woman is and is not.

LilacpointMummy · 03/07/2023 07:38

I thought this article was hilarious, considering that neither Labour or Lib Dims (not a typo) have any idea what a woman is!

Did Ed Davey not see any of the derision for his 'of course women can have a penis' stuff 🤦‍♀️

Datun · 03/07/2023 07:57

Ffs. How bloody sexist do you have to be to identify your core and crucial voter, and yet still retain policies that erase them completely??

We are on a campaign to remind people, as we move towards the election here in the UK, that actually when the vote is counted, when you look who’s voted, more of the voting population will be women than men.

If they are dependent upon women so much, I can't bloody wait for people to start asking them to explain who that is exactly.

And you'd think, wouldn't you, that they would start to take notice of the biggest gathering of women in the history.

TheDogsMother · 03/07/2023 08:00

Ahh so they do know exactly what women are when they want votes. Funny that.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 03/07/2023 08:02

I will continue with my protest vote in the safest of safe Tory seats where I live. I don’t think it will make the slightest difference though, but women died to get me the vote so I shall carry on using it.

I know, amazing isn't it?

PomegranateOfPersephone · 03/07/2023 08:06

A simple problem to solve then, get the middle aged men in their parties to pop on a dress and a wig and they too will have the keys to winning the next election, right?

notanicepersonapparently · 03/07/2023 08:08

So I get they would like women to vote for them. Are they able to work out how they might attract those votes? In the article they seem to think Boris was a liar is sufficient reason for voters to vote Labour or Lib Dem. I think they might want to offer something more - like some policies that would appeal to women. But there is an underlying misogynistic tone there that seems to imply that they shouldn’t have to do that.
Btw I’m the voters they are trying to target and I am waiting to be persuaded.

Floisme · 03/07/2023 08:16

Fuck me, it's a bit early in the day to be sent into a rage but that article has done it.
National Trusters”, “Take A Break-ers” and the Women’s Institute (WI).
No offence whatsoever to anyone who enjoys those activities (a friend and I used to get Take a Break when we were in our 20s - never won a thing) but is that seriously how they define us?

And where, just out of interest, are the teachers, the doctors, the grandmothers picking up the childcare slack, the retired caffeine addicts?

risefromyourgrave · 03/07/2023 08:18

Funny how out of the quotes from the 3 parties only the Conservatives manage to not be patronising.
And as for Labour and their ‘Take-a-breakers’ they can fuck off. Is that really what they came up with to represent middle aged women?! At least the Lib Dems have us walking our dogs in the countryside…..

risefromyourgrave · 03/07/2023 08:19

Ha, cross posted @Floisme!

EVHead · 03/07/2023 08:20

My MP is an Independent, thank goodness, because I can’t vote for any of the main parties at the moment. 😡

SmartHome · 03/07/2023 08:21

Is take a break even still around?

I don't know a single woman that has either the time or money to waste on such dross.

SmartHome · 03/07/2023 08:24

Funny how they all know what a woman is now isn't it? I'm looking forward to middle age women delivering the biggest slap in the face they've ever had - and that's all 3 of the main parties.

Parisj · 03/07/2023 08:30

None are fit to lead, I won't vote for any of them. Despairing here.

Floisme · 03/07/2023 08:34

Actually I've found two points where I think Labour have got it right:

'they’re feeling particularly disillusioned at the moment'
Yup.

'We think it’s a group that could change their vote.'
Yes, absolutely. And it won't be to your advantage, Sunshine.

Grimchmas · 03/07/2023 08:36

Oh how fucking depressing to be reduced to insulting stereotypes like that.

And whilst they are busy tarring us with brushes that i don't recognise, not one of the fuckers has acknowledged the several elephants in the room:

  1. ours and our daughters rights are being eroded by the TRA fight, and we're not happy with politicians who enable that shit. I'm politically homeless like many other women, because it's still the fucking tories who seem to be the vaguely least worst when it comes to this issue, and although hell would have frozen over before I voted for them in the past and if I did I'd have to hold my nose, I'm seriously worried that it's getting a bit chilly in the furnace room.

  2. Menopause. Women's reproductive rights, gynae healthcare, fertility, the way women's cycles, menstrual problems and menopause, as well as women over 40 in general are viewed and treated in the workplace and society, are all fucking shocking. A little bit of government acknowledgement and help would be fucking well appreciated.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 03/07/2023 08:43

I’m in the age bracket referenced in the article, I spend a couple of hours a day on days off walking my dog in the countryside, I enjoy visiting National Trust properties, I live in an area where Labour don’t stand a chance. There is no way I will be voting Lib Dem.

Respect my sex if you want my X.

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/07/2023 08:44

Working class middle aged women are “take-a-breakers”

FUCK OFF

Toseland · 03/07/2023 08:58

I'm a working class middle-aged woman and it's not Boris (mentioned almost every other paragraph) that I'm worried about. I don't fucking read 'Take a Break'. I'm a hard working professional and I won't be voting for Labour, Greens or Lib Dems who have spent the last 7 years insulting me day after day and ignoring or belittling my concerns (the last Labour person to knock on my door grinned a big smile and ran away!) I'll be voting, campaigning and putting everything I've got behind the Party of Women!

Ramblingnamechanger · 03/07/2023 09:04

In Spain in the recent local elections there was a major increase in votes that were spoiled, blank or abstentions ( you have the right to put a blank paper in the box) and women were definitely using this option to express their views. Although in some contentious areas the abstentions went down. But then it is PR.

Marypw · 03/07/2023 09:11

That is all just so patronising and insulting. I’m slightly older than their target, but I’ve never voted Tory, and would be extremely reluctant to do so, but if Labour and Lib Dems won’t stick up for women’s rights, I can’t vote for them.
I checked out the Women’s Equality party and they come out with the same gender guff and now the Humanists have fallen for it as well. So I’m starting to feel I don’t belong anywhere.
I’m pretty new on here, but it seems like the only place where people talk sense.

notanicepersonapparently · 03/07/2023 09:15

Due think the policy gurus know any working class middle aged women? I found the take a breakers comment really grating. It’s such an odd thing to pick on.
