Predictive text 😂

Angela Rayner can get some Chelsea Buns infront of her and Suzie Izzard and make a WI calendar.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/07/2023 18:12

If Labour & the Lib Dem’s carry on down the path they are, how will we know if their policies are working for women when their definition of women includes “adult human female & men who self identify as having lady feelings”

it’s very simple to deal with this, all sorts keir & sir ed need to say is “women are adult human females, trans women are trans women - both have equal but differing needs which is why we will keep spaces as single sex when necessary”

it’s not fucking hard!

callingeveryone · 03/07/2023 18:15

The Conservatives have been destroying so much of the social welfare system that supports women. Schools are crumbling and children are being taught by more and more cover teachers. The NHS is crumbling and getting an ambulance if your child is seriously ill is no longer a guarantee. Do these things not matter to you?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/07/2023 18:17

How will you know how the social welfare systems or is not supporting women when the definition of women includes men?

id rather cut my send off than vote Tory but I’m fucking furious that Labour think it’s ok to treat women as if they don’t matter (unless they have a dick in which case suddenly what they want really matters)

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/07/2023 18:17

Arms off ffs!

Floisme · 03/07/2023 18:18

What do you think of the article callingeveryone? That's the topic of this thread.

What do you think middle aged women should do when the political parties that many of us have supported for years classify middle aged women as National Trusters” and “Take A Break-ers”?

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/07/2023 18:19

PomegranateOfPersephone · 03/07/2023 08:06

A simple problem to solve then, get the middle aged men in their parties to pop on a dress and a wig and they too will have the keys to winning the next election, right?

Tory MP Jamie Wallis is way ahead of you on that.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/07/2023 18:19

As I don’t belong to the national trust or WI & don’t read take a break, I’m assuming I’m invisible to them as a middle aged woman who doesn’t fit into their stereotype box

callingeveryone · 03/07/2023 18:20

@Floisme I am supposed to trust a quote from a "Labour source"?
This is just supposition.
It is true all the main political parties identify groups of people they want to win over, but this particular article does not even have named quotes.

So you don't believe the article?

You don't believe Labour and Lib Dem parties would talk about middle aged women in this way?

What about the letter in the Guardian from a Labour supporter that I've linked upthread? Do you discount that too?

MintJulia · 03/07/2023 18:25

I do hope so.

I require Labour and all the shadow cabinet to stand up and state quite clearly the definition of a woman. Then to restate the legal requirement for safe spaces for women.

If they do that, they get my vote, if they don't they can go whistle.

Igmum · 03/07/2023 18:27

I'm another one they are now trying to target. And no, I'm not bloody impressed by a patronising marketing label stuck on by parties who have either ignored or insulted me for years. Let's have some pro-women policies and a genuine respect for women and women's rights.

callingeveryone · 03/07/2023 18:27

@Floisme All of the national parties use groups of people as marketing terms. It is standard marketing technique. The Conservatives do it as well.
I don't believe the quote though that talks about a "labour source". And no marketing person in the current day would refer to take a break readers as an audience to target.

So yes it is true about marketing groups, any large company does this, but I do not believe the details.

All the parties do that, including the Conservatives. And all large companies do this as well.

DramaFatigue · 03/07/2023 18:29

I look forward to the parties grovelling for my middle age vote in my local town and at my door.

I won’t be voting for either Labour, Lib Dem or Green due to their anti women behaviour.
I won’t be voting conservative for reasons too long to go into.

FKATondelayo · 03/07/2023 18:32

Women age 45-65 are second wave boomers and Gen X. We were punks, goths, indie kids, dropped E at raves, carried condoms, campaigned against AIDS, section 28, the Poll tax, for the miners. We are the most educated, liberated, highest earning generation of women in history.

We're NOT 'Take a Breakers' and "National Trusters" and "WI". Even my mum isn't in the WI and she's nearly 80.

I'd rather be a Blair Babe than endure this bullshit.

I agree with you that it's a standard marketing technique to patronise and belittle middle aged women. The thing is, I used to think the Labour party were better than that.

I cannot begin to tell you how distressing it is to realise what the party I have supported all my adult life really thinks of me.
Do you not see that?
Do you not have anything else to say to me other than 'But the Tories....'?

callingeveryone · 03/07/2023 18:33

The take a breakers is made up bullshit. No one in marketing is using this term. It is just not relevant.

JeandeServiette · 03/07/2023 18:34

Floisme · 03/07/2023 08:16

Fuck me, it's a bit early in the day to be sent into a rage but that article has done it.
National Trusters”, “Take A Break-ers” and the Women’s Institute (WI).
No offence whatsoever to anyone who enjoys those activities (a friend and I used to get Take a Break when we were in our 20s - never won a thing) but is that seriously how they define us?

And where, just out of interest, are the teachers, the doctors, the grandmothers picking up the childcare slack, the retired caffeine addicts?

Quite agree.

Marketing woman here. All marketing departments do use 'profiles' indeed but a) they aren't normally so reductive, patronising and poorly researched and b) they don't go and talk to the press about them. They're for internal use.

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/07/2023 08:44

Working class middle aged women are “take-a-breakers”

FUCK OFF

Funnily enough, that was my reaction too.

But it does confirm (as if I needed more confirmation!) that Labour are not the party of the working class. They look down their middle-class never-worked-a-day-in-their-lives, straight-out-of-uni-with-their-PPE-degree noses, and pronounce upon us oiks.

Patronising bullshitters the lot of them.

callingeveryone · 03/07/2023 18:36

@FKATondelayo which is why this article is made up rubbish. I sue marketing groups as part of my work. I know this article is untrue.

Kevinscousin · 03/07/2023 18:36

I'm a working class, middle ages woman. I work bloody hard and don't read Take A Break, ffs. What a cheek! None of these b deserve our vote it seems. They hate us! How depressing is that! I can barely pay my bills and need a cataract op at 53 ,to stop me losing my vision. I don't know when I will get it , so I will probably have to take out a bloody health plan on some trade union scheme( they are all sell out shtes as well who hate women too) so I can keep working! Meanwhile, they continue to lecture us about being kind to men "breast feeding " babies.
