And to add, news actually should have a bias, in that journalists should be in an opposition role to governments and powerful organisations and people. They should not have a comfy relationship with each other. Everything that the powerful do should be looked at critically.

You're talking about the Grundiad here? You missed totally making things up.

So you're assuming I'm a Guardian reader and supporter, because I don't like the DM? I'm not middle class, I don't read the Guardian. I also loathe the DM.

JanesLittleGirl · 14/06/2023 12:24

CherryPosset · 14/06/2023 12:06

Can we also appreciate them when they show images of celebrities SHOWCASING or EXHIBITING their breasts when they're just out shopping or lying on a beach?

Let's be honest though, their intended audience is the uneducated, angry proletariat with an axe to grind.

Every publication has an intended consumer, and the DM's is unashamedly the average working man, generally working class with traditional values, a fear of progressive/diverse policies, and who is generally easily convinced that all UK problems involve immigration.
I see their intended consumer as malleable, easy to galvanise via contextless headline shockers, designed to achieve an angry/emotional response as opposed to a measured one.

The psychology is interesting if you have studied it. It isn't wholesome in the sense that it wants your kids to have an education, only that you will remain divided from the rest of the proletariat (especially those who do not conform to a very standardised, white, male centric etc) which education might actually reveal as ...problematic.

Worst of all - nationalism; unashamed and toxic. Any kind of nationalism multiplies in times of confusion and a reduction in social services (which, like poverty, is 'by design' and fully supported by the Murdoch class). The less educated one is, the more likely one can be nose-led towards nationalism, sexism and knee jerk judgement.

It's all so terribly icky, but that's just my opinion.

Ah, I can see that you wouldn't have anything to do with a paper read by oiks.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:25

@Beowulfa hope they can get past "wank rag" 🤮 honestly @Seasonofthewitch83 talk about lowering the tone.

This is why we are so lucky to have Private Eye, where all MPs, councillors, corporations, public bodies and the Royal Family can expect to be savaged if they fuck up.

The Eye have been pointing out genderwoo nonsense in the past few months. Is this an approved publication?

Gotta make sure the people know that she's not a member of the lumpenproletariat.

It's also completely wrong.

The DM quite openly is aimed at conservative, middle class, middle aged women. There's no way you could have studied its psychology and missed that. The uneducated, angry proletariat that you loathe so much are not interested in WOHM/SAHM debates, this season's collection from Whistles, John Lewis, or aspirational photoshoots of beautiful homes featuring entrepreneurial women in designer dresses.

Sorry, but when you miss a mark that's elephant sized and in point blank range, and deliver classist, ignorant sneers at underprivileged people, I'm going to form my own view of you and your own agenda. You're not what you think you are.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 14/06/2023 12:30

I dunno, maybe because the DM, which is known for its hateful views, has ONE agenda that suits yours, doesn't mean it needs to be applauded. Its still a terrible fucking website and paper.

Once again the feminism board becomes a bullying, snidey embarrassment.

StansRealityStruggle · 14/06/2023 12:32

Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows and all that.

I'll read anything that is publishing the truth on this, be it the Daily Mail or the Morning Star.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:33

@Seasonofthewitch83 you were the one who used the term "wank bag"...
I know the DM can stir up many different emotions & urges in people but I didn't think masturbation would be an obvious one.. Thanks for enlightening us. Each to their own☺️

You're the snidey bully in this scenario though.

And the DM are actually right in this matter.

You might want to look again.

Yep this

much better than my snark

people who didn’t go to university are people too

maybe an approved publication could run a story about it

RudsyFarmer · 14/06/2023 12:35

It’s always the same assertion that being grateful for truth telling within a majority captured media is a far right opinion.

I hate to tell you (I’ll whisper it) that lots and lots and lot and lots of people with middle of the road political persuasions agree with these tabloids. They agree with their take on calling out those who cheat the system, migration, trans issues - all those hot button issues. They just don’t verbalise it. They take it to the polling stations which is why the Tories have been in power for 12/13 years.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:36

Apologies @Seasonofthewitch83
"wank rag" is what you referred to the DM as.. DH just pointed out it must be incredibly uncomfortable but whatever floats ones boat😏

THIS. It's embarrassing actually how so many people here are happy to ignore the myriad glaring issues the DM still has and perpetuates just because they've also jumped on the trans/gender issue hot button media moment. Is it really this easy to sway people?? Especially on what is meant to be a board about feminism. The DM is still stuffed full of articles about womens' appearances and clothing choices and nasty little opinion pieces from bigots. But we can have an appreciation thread for them because ONE topic they now cover aligns with peoples' thoughts? Staggering.

I - "a leftie" who does indeed read the Guardian - am rather bothered when I see how some people on "the left" speak about the working class. Particularly working class men.

They seem to genuinely despise them. It's incredibly hypocritical imo.

Stoic123 · 14/06/2023 12:37

I totally appreciate DM's skill at stirring outrage about relatively low impact topics (in the scheme of things) as a distraction from much more fundamental societal issues.

Florissante · 14/06/2023 12:40

PrincessPalatine · 14/06/2023 10:40

Whoosh?

No.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:41

I really hope the Daily Mail get to see this appreciation thread & realise how important it is to up the ante even more judging by some or the replies..

Like what sane minded person would not want a media outlet reporting about children being castrated, mutilated, sterilised & put on lifelong hormones??

What woman wants men to have rights to infiltrate our women's only spaces & our little girls because they "think" they are women & the vast majority have their penis in tact.

Keep up the good work Daily Mail & up the ante.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/06/2023 12:42

Is the Daily Mail massively sexist in the way it writes about female celebrities?

Yup

does it come from a nationalist position?
yep

is it open about it’s position?
clearly

does it cover important social issues other outlets won’t touch due to their political agenda like the Cologne Riots, women being fired for holding gender critical views etc?
yes

none of those strikes me as a reason not to read it and not to appreciate it’s bloody minded pursuit of whatever the hell it feels like covering

Museya15 · 14/06/2023 12:43

Love daily mail, have the app. I bet all the snobs on here secretly read their online page. Go on admit it whilst telling us you read the times and guardian 😄
