I didn't say 'you' said those things. However, now that you mention it...
Um, you were literally replying to my post, so yes you did.

Did you or did you not agree with this post at the start of the thread?
Yes, I did agree with it, because I agree with the careful where you're heading bit.
The insidious every day drip of negative articles about minorities whether they be people who are trans, or people who are migrants etc can start to have an effect.
The misogyny and sexism towards women in the "sidebar of shame" where they talk about a woman's shapely pins, or how someone is looking "tired" 🙄 as not wearing any make up, or bollock articles about stay at home vs working mums
Hence careful where you're heading.
If it doesn't to you, then carry on, that's all cool then.
I read it myself as I said, as I agree with @SerafinasGoose in that you can read it but still be capable of seeing what it really is

So, you are a 'we' now? 'We' indicates that post was aimed at multiple posters.

I was quoting your post so people could see how the tactic is being used. By you. Whether you have been repetitively making that guilt by association or just 'agreeing' with it. Because you have been on this thread where posters have been using shame to silence women discussing the articles that they read in a particular new service and you agreed with a poster who seems to think women are misogynistic and right wing just because they read a news outlet.

Your 'careful where you're heading' is fucking ridiculous, whether you stated it originally or you are now repeating it.

Women can read articles in a newspaper and analyse them for themselves. It is called being a mature adult and using critical thinking to assess the validity of the article. Reading a newspaper article and commenting positively on it doesn't put women on a slippery slope deserving of a 'careful where you're heading'. It is as ridiculous as reading an article written about feminism will get you cooties from all the other sections of the mail.

Please, do tell us exactly what it is that Julie Bindel writes that is false or inaccurate and therefore not worthy of consideration?

And please do tell us how a life long left wing feminist has become in anyway right wing by writing in the Daily Mail.

Since this thread I've started checking out the DM from time to time. Most of it is as daft as I expect it to be, but there's the odd interesting article. There's this one by Andrew Doyle on, amongst other things, the Pride flag. There's a little too much Lawrence Fox, but otherwise.

I think the Microsoft one might actually be a health hazard.

I like the original C&A flag.

ANDREW DOYLE: When I was growing up, Pride's flag was a shining beacon

ANDREW DOYLE It is now Pride Month, formerly known as 'June'. The streets are festooned with multicoloured flags.

This is an old story but it made me laugh (although brain bleach at the mental image of 'Chantelle' in an Ann Summers Mother Christmas outfit*, didn't know they did such large sizes). I think big C was stitched up with the photos, I hope they can see the funny side now.

*glad they were visiting a friend (very kind) and not spreading Christmas cheer in the children's wards.

Nurse sorry after trans woman dressed as Mrs Claus is mistaken for man

Chantelle Saunders, who is transitioning from male to female, said she was left 'very, very upset' by the way she was treated by staff at Royal Devon and Exeter hospital.

😂😂Kudos to their researchers for getting the stories!

Florissante · 26/06/2023 14:58

Appalling. Those women should not be forced to share living space with a man.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/06/2023 15:05

When the Mail started reporting this the articles were dire - incoherent, rambling and looking for an angle. But their reporters educated themselves - as we've all had to do 😁- and the articles are now generally articulate, explain the issues clearly & report both sides via quotes (which so often highlight the batshit perfectly). They also include previous articles I've noticed so as you read down you there's additional info previously reported that often gives a context.

Moonandstarzz · 26/06/2023 15:06

@MrsOvertonsWindow yep the DM are all over this, thank the lord!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/06/2023 15:10

It is a relief after all those years of this being studiously ignored because trans groups had a stranglehold on the media. I always wonder where we'd be if #nodebate hadn't been the mantra? I suspect that children, schools, and women's sport may have been better protected if facts and science hadn't been so viciously silenced (but I may be being optimistic)

turbonerd · 03/07/2023 14:30

Jesus, they are so young!
And to think you cannot have elective sterilisation as a woman before age 30, yet here the drs are merrily chopping off healthy bodyparts and sex organs like there is no tomorrow.

I would not and could not support that immigration plan. Any positive policies for women and children would have to be balanced against what I see as the damage that this government is doing to the infrastructure and the economic and social fabric of this country.

This isn't particularly sex and gender related, but it 100% deserves some appreciation in my opinion so I'm throwing it here and bringing this thread back from the dead (even if the title of the article makes me feel a certain type of way).

As someone who had a port wine stain across my jaw/cheek/ear and went to many different hospitals before settling on GOSH to have it laser removed from 18-24 months of age all the way up till I was 15 or 16, I can tell you with complete certainty it's not painful, they use numbing cream, it's a bit sore and tender after but it's no worse than a bruise with some heat...
That's literally it.
I've had injections of all things be more painful than the laser.

As the article itself goes into, PWS's don't stay the same.

'They can develop a "cobblestone" appearance, with raised bumps, ridges and the risk of vascular blebs, where they dangerously bleed.
'Once a port wine stain gets to this stage, it is often very difficult to treat and laser barely has any affect, as the skin is already far too damaged.'"

They change, darken over time, and can actually cause damage to the skin. They're not "just a slight different in colour". They "set" into the skin to the point where laser won't even do anything, you HAVE to do it as soon as possible to prevent issues later on.
And that's not even going into the bullying side of things from your peers.

The mum is not a monster, people are just grossly uneducated about PWS's and about the treatment for them.
Just because something looks painful doesn't always mean it is.

Gold Coast mum a 'monster' for lasering port-wine stain birthmark

Stay-at-home mum Brooke Atkins, 33, from Gold Coast, welcomed her second child, a baby boy named Kingsley six months ago.

That DM article is interesting, and important for parents of babies born with this condition to know more about it.

That poor mother to have been accused in this way.

Thank you for linking the article and sharing your own experience of laser treatment which you know not to be painful.
