The sneering, bullying, Guardian-reading left hate the Daily Mail. For that reason alone I buy it every day. The left are doing all they can to destroy my identity. They've made the very idea of Englishness (and Britishness) toxic. The young know nothing about their own literature and culture. They don't even identify with it, let alone take any pride in it. We're raising a generation that pretty much hates its own country. But what do you expect? The long march through the institutions is complete. The left dominate publishing, the universities, and the arts. They run the BBC. They've even begun editing books and 'de-colonising' the libraries (god, it's straight out of Orwell's 1984). When Labour wins the next election, they'll have control of everything.

I don't like the Daily Mail, but anything that hurts or upsets the left makes me happy. I'm ordinary working-class, and centrist in my politics, but the left aren't on my side any more. On the contrary, they hate me.

What's nuanced or complex about a rapist with his rapist cock bulging through his pink "lady leggings" nearly ending up in a women's prison? I don't care which media outlet reported that shitshow- it prevented vulnerable women from harm

Mail REALLY knew what they were doing when they posted that pic. A lot of media cropped it but the Mail showed it and everyone got the message.

Tropicaldi · 14/06/2023 13:11

Sorry. Nrtft - just the OP and the article. The article is very unclear. Everyone in it is referred to as female and she/her throughout, apart from Rosas. The sex of these activists is relevant.

Anyone reading through who didn’t know you should always perform your own fact-checking when the words ‘female’, ‘woman’ or ‘she’ or ‘her’ are used, would see this as ‘just an issue between women’.

I won’t get my bunting out for the DM based on this.

hate 'Applebee's.

WYF autocorrect? How did wokeness become Applebee's?

Was wondering what apple bees meant! 😁

Is this inability to see different aspects of things an issue throughout your life? Do you cut out any family member that has a different opinion on somehting to you?

Two things can both be true at the same time. They can print their pap shots in the sidebar of shame AND be a loud voice of reason on transactivism and womens rights.
Amazing how many of you can't see the grey....the world is not black and white.

The world may not be black and white, but remember the OP is asking if we can have an appreciation thread for this specific paper. The objections people are raising are valid, imo, because they're highlighting why the paper doesn't deserve a whole thread of appreciation on a feminist board.

And that's the type of media we need to highlight what this means for women. The Mail don't hold back.

I'd consider myself left.
I don't hate you at all, just because someone holds different views to you doesn't mean they hate you, or want to destroy your identity!
This is what's wrong with it all - the utter hyperbole and everybody's out to get me mentality.
Stoking up division like said upthread.
Nothing to do with caring about women and their rights.

What a load of aggressive rubbish
Just like the DM

ClawedButler · 14/06/2023 13:17

Some posters appear to imagine that the DM is the only medium that runs stories with mass appeal in order to make money. Of course they would change their stance in a heart beat if it meant more readers - what does that tell you about the level of engagement with these issues in the wider world?

There isn't a single unbiased, agenda-less media outlet in existence.

There also isn't a single person let alone organisation that shares all my views exactly. If you can only bear to read views that tally with your own, maybe you're not as broadminded as you thought? It's also facile to denounce anyone/anything that has previously said things that don't accord with your own views - you can't hear what they say about anything, because you won't listen to them under any circumstances.

Appreciation for the paper for this article and others like it. I'm a feminist, and I'm happy to highlight and appreciate what the DM is doing here, because we absolutely need someone to do it.
Sure as shit any of the papers approved by those whining here aren't doing it. I'm a guardian reader through and through and they aren't doing it, are they?

Sometimes you have to take what you can get.

You are polarising the debate again. It is not a case of being all in or all out. It’s possible to feel grateful to a publication for shining a light on one issue whilst still disliking it for another. In the sane way you might love your best friend but not agree with all of their political viewpoints.

That seems to have disappeared from so many peoples social interactions. Particularly online. You either slough with my thinking ENTIRELY or it’s off to the Gulag with you.

Plunkplink · 14/06/2023 13:18

What’s Applebees? Have you wandered in from somewhere else?

CallieQ · 14/06/2023 13:18

@JaneyGee

How can any of the things you mention be down to 'the Left' when the Tories have been in power for years????

Utter crap

The daily mail breeds hate. Life is too short to read that and get frothy about everything. It thrives on divide and rule. Surely you can see all it wants to do is keep the status quo. Ensuring we are ruled by the same small group of rich, Eton Oxbridge lot that the Mail et al is owned by. That's far more Orwellian than some made up junk about no carols . Newspeaks for the masses.

What nonsense is this? Honestly I don't know what you were being taught at school, regarding literature, and culture. Stop with the dramatics.

AutumnCrow · 14/06/2023 13:20

I'm a Marxist, as it turns out. It's a terrible failing of the left that the left-wing media - other than the Morning Star - have ceased to regard and report on women and girls in the UK and North America as a sex-class.

ClawedButler · 14/06/2023 13:20

To be fair, though, Applebees ARE c*s.

tattygrl · 14/06/2023 13:20

The waters are getting muddied here because it's turned into a debate about whether it's possible to appreciate one aspect of a publication when the other aspects of it are questionable, to say the least. That wasn't the question in the OP. The OP was asking whether to have an appreciation thread for this paper on the feminist board. That's what I believe is wrong, because this is a deeply unfeminist publication.

For another example, I'm vegan (yes, haha, I've announced it unprovoked). I'm very passionate about veganism and applaud any movement to see it moved more mainstream and into the public eye. However, I would NEVER suggest an appreciation thread for the DM if it started posting pro-veganism articles, because the paper as a whole doesn't deserve praise on ethical grounds. It's too nasty overall.

A restaurant, AFAIK. (Amd there's of course also Appleby)

55balloons · 14/06/2023 13:24

@tattygrl can you name another media publication as invested & committed as the Daily Mail in highlighting the damage done to children due to sterilisation & the invasion of womens rights, spaces & sports?? Name one.
This needs to be mainstream knowledge so people can educate themselves about how it may affect them personally & their children.
