Glamour magazine - pregnant trans man

Apologies if there’s a thread already but as someone at similar stage of pregnancy I’m struggling to articulate my thoughts on this one.

Let and let live vs feeling offended (not even sure that’s the word?!) as at similarly heavily pregnant stage

Glamour magazine - pregnant trans man

It’s funny because the byline of the magazine includes ‘the empowerment of women’. If empowerment means that you have to identify out of being a woman to appear on the front cover of the magazine that’s a no from me.

Megifer · 02/06/2023 07:37

Why has a non-famous pregnant woman made the cover of Glamour? Confused

Neverinamonthofsundays · 02/06/2023 07:37

It more is unempowering women that this is. Its shocking that the magazine have this on the cover because anyone with half a brain knows that she got pregnant by her boyfriend and no matter how much they dress up (and her fella does cos he is a drag queen) it is nothing more than a normal pregnancy where a man inseminated a woman.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 02/06/2023 07:43

I have just sent that link to DP who is away with work at the moment just so he can have nice raised blood pressure for breakfast lol

We have one here that thinks she might identify as a boy. She has a name and everything that she wants us to refer to her as - like all 5 of her best friends. FIVE of them can you believe were born into the wrong body. Amazing. The school says it has reached epidemic propertions with girls coming in wanting to change their names to a boys name etc and that all they can do is ask the parents for a yes or no on it. We said no. She was born female and will flipping stay that way. I do realise there are genuine cases out there and our kids go to an educate together school so we come across both genuine and fanciful trans kids but we wont be calling her a boy anytime soon. If she fancies gender realignment surgery then perhaps but until then she is our little girl whether she wants to be our little boy or not. Just to add both our biologically born sons just ignore her too.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 02/06/2023 07:44

Reassignment even! Although as one of the kids here jokes we should just all go back to our default settings and start from there so maybe reallignment could be the correct wording too lol

Clymene · 02/06/2023 07:45

That everything, all my manlihood that I’ve worked hard for, for so long, just completely felt like it was erased.

I thought this statement was very telling.

And the fact they've had to stop taking testosterone because it was causing health problems just thrown in there like it's perfectly normal to be injecting your body with poison in pursuit of said manlihood.

I also hope midwives have had a serious talk about contraception because it seems like Logan and partner don't understand that PIV sex without contraception can lead to pregnancy.

Heterosexual couple have baby

transmen are only ever celebrated for doing the one thing that marks them out as biological women

it’s just all so ludicrous

Museya15 · 02/06/2023 07:57

Ita a woman that's pregnant that prefers to say she's a man.

TeaYarn · 02/06/2023 08:04

Sounds like they are trying to say trans men are woman. I wonder why they chose pride month to do it? Why not just put JK on the cover?

FannyCann · 02/06/2023 08:11

Awrite · 02/06/2023 07:19

I think what is going on is that the ideology wants to put pregnancy into the male sphere. So, not just a female thing.

If that happens, we have nothing that is purely female. Nothing.

Agree. And we should be alert to the risks this poses to maternity rights etc (remember maternity is a protected characteristic).
Add in the possibility - if proposed law change to make commissioning parents legal parents at birth goes through - of surrogate mothers being women who have given birth but who are not legally a mother or parent.
What does all this mean for women's rights and maternity protections?
I think we are living in very dangerous times and could see those rights snatched from under our noses.

Remember there was a case in USA of a woman claiming sex discrimination due to her employers not supporting her breastfeeding/pumping and she lost the case as the court accepted men can breastfeed. I think in that case they were referring to women who claim they are men who breastfeed but we now have the rise of men who claim they are women trying to "breastfeed", pretty sure courts and lawyers will be happy to designate these "women" as men when it suits.

It's the only time we see transmen anywhere isn't it? When they are pregnant or giving birth.
That's all they are noted for.
TW on the other hand, are visible in politics, sport, business, even breastfeeding.

Common, everyday or garden variety sexism. Females are only good for giving birth. Males on the other hand are pretty fantastic at everything else.

Exactly this.

And it work's towards covering the fact if children take crossex hormones they will likely be infertile because as per this picture. Clearly some trans men can and do get pregnant

Forwarder · 02/06/2023 08:53

Woman with short hair takes it up the usual route from her boyfriend with the usual equipment. Ends up pregnant.

Even before you get to pregnancy, surely having vaginal intercourse is a bit of a clue that you might not actually be a man, as Logan asserts throughout her interview? I hadn't given the technical side of this much thought previously.

There are plenty of unstable couples having unplanned pregnancies. The woman doesn't usually get on the cover of a magazine for it.

But any abusive parents now know they just need to identify as trans and social services won't be able to touch them. This is not to suggest that Logan will abuse her daughter. Only, as with other examples, the madness creates a new loophole for unscrupulous people to exploit.

70sTomboy · 02/06/2023 08:58

Why would someone identifying as male ever want to be pregnant?

ApocalipstickNow · 02/06/2023 09:15

I find the binary of TM/TW very interesting.

As has been noted, TW make the news as sporting record breakers, or “firsts”, as movers and shakers in the political world, as leaders of industry, the forces and so on.

So things that men have been lionised for for generations. And often women were unable to access.

TM usually become feted for being pregnant, or giving birth.

Something that has been seen as the world of women- and I’m not playing down the importance of motherhood here, but historically we have seen men and women presented as “Mr A - political firebrand and sporting hero (list of achievements) with Mrs B - a mother” and there has been feminist discourse around the imbalance in this.

Perhaps we will see “first transman to win gold medal/rise to great heights in the army/take a seat in the commons whatever. But so far we have transwomen achievers, transmen pregnant.

It feels like the oldest stereotypes going.

WeeBisom · 02/06/2023 09:16

And on the topic of how trans men only ever get mentioned when they are pregnant or breast feeding , does anyone else notice that trans men are always naked and on display? On the cover , Logan is naked with a suit painted on.

TraumatisedGooner · 02/06/2023 06:43

The reason that trans women are more visible to you is almost entirely because the gender critical movement focuses all of its ire on trans women.

They are more visible in the mainstream media (TW) and they are the ones infiltrating the spaces which were set up to protect the oppressed majority. That's why they're talked about more.

3peassuit · 02/06/2023 09:54

So female pronouns would offend this person but getting pregnant doesn’t trigger their dysphoria. It’s difficult to get my head round this.

Men identifying as women go on magazine covers with awards.

Women identifying as men are only talked about when they get pregnant.

This infuriates me on so many levels. The promoting of queer theory. The normalising of insanity. The health of that baby that is growing in a woman's body ravaged by testosterone. No one knows how it will affects its health and mental capabilities. The misogyny of it all. The gaslighting in trying to tell us that this is somehow breaking with stereotypes.

I'm so sick of it all.

Perfectly put. It’s so depressing.

Fizbosshoes · 02/06/2023 10:43

I'm also confused about someone insisting they were born into the wrong body and having their breasts removed.... but then getting pregnant.

And if men can get pregnant because its hateful to say they can't was Logan surprised, or did he wonder why it was him rather than his partner who became pregnant after sex....?

It's not necessarily unreasonable to hope for MH support during pregnancy, but that might be needed for many women for different reasons, not just those who identify as a man. Unfortunately MH services are stretched pretty thin and I imagine it's only offered in limited circumstances .

I'm also intrigued what special/different treatment they wanted in labour? In my mind labour is about keeping mother and baby as comfortable as possible and delivering baby safely. (But I'm not medical so stand to be corrected)

DoingSomethingUnholy · 01/06/2023 23:04

It's a pregnant woman with short hair. My mum has short hair, I didn't realise she was so ground breaking for having kids with her hair short. If this woman is able to get pregnant and carry a baby she's as much a woman as I am, she just likes to dress like a boy and cut her hair. Nothing to see here!

Exactly...
the fact she dresses a certain way and wants to be called 'he' is irrelevant
It's a pregnant woman.

Or I could say I've had the first Mars landing in my living room because my 5 year old is playing astronauts.

The reason that trans women are more visible to you is almost entirely because the gender critical movement focuses all of its ire on trans women.

And that would be because they are the subset of trans identified people who are the most abusive towards women and girls.

Pregnant women who don't identify as such may irk me but yes my ire is largely reserved for men who who cheat women and girls out of sporting achievements or male sex offenders who want access to women's prisons/spaces, so and and so forth.

He’d have to have periods though. How does that work with testosterone?
