If anyone is a member of the Oxford Union it says her talk is at 5pm tomorrow.

Is anyone from FWR going?

Until a few weeks ago "Riz" was happily using the name her mother and father spent ages deciding for her - Scarlet Poppy Possnett. She was a climate activist and although only 19 has already taken part in several disruptive, illegal and sometimes dangerous protests and been arrested and charged and appeared in court.

Just like her dad, who has been in court multiple times once for hurling a load of damaging red paint onto property, another time for disrupting a meeting in Norfolk so that it could not go ahead.

When Scarlet decided her next round of fun to get Daddy's longed-for attention was to pretend to be trans and remember that until a few short months ago she was perfectly happy to be the girl that she is, with long blonde hair and cute girlie jumpers she just put "they/them" on her Twitter and gave herself the silly name "Riz". It's trendy to be "trans" at Oxford and she did not want to be left out or look like a boring old cis straight person.

Note to admin: this isn't "deadnaming" or "misgendering" because she does not have a GRC and is not in any way shape or form a genuine trans person.

Tabitha1960 · 31/05/2023 12:33

I did not mean to put that black line though my post.

RealityFan · 31/05/2023 12:44

I remember the good ol' days when the worst disruption was a gang of Goths bringing the energy down in a room, lol.

ArabeIIaScott · 31/05/2023 12:50

Ah, come on. The goth interlude at our local nite spot was always enjoyed by all. Cleared the dancefloor and provided a solid few minutes of entertainment while Temple of Love was on. Just a few minutes afterwards to clear up the fake blood and all was good to go.

ArabeIIaScott · 31/05/2023 12:56

Behold, a man has arrived on Twitter to give us his manly opinion on lesbian issues.

Billy Bragg says this about lesbians:

'They are not equipped to have sex as defined by biology with other women. Their ‘hardware’ is incompatible.'

Various men chipping in to say how disappointed they are in lesbians for being 'transphobic'.

Ohyoudodoyou · 31/05/2023 13:14

Billy Bragg wading in with his idiotic contribution to things he knows absolutely nothing about. Who is he? When did he appoint himself an expert on this issue? He will never know the discomfort we feel as women when we have to put up with unwanted male proximity. How we've been so polite and afraid to rock the boat until now. Bragg is so desperate to stay in the public eye that he's taken this as a cause to champion. What a misfire this will prove and we won't forget.

Interesting to look her dad's tweets, shows where she's got the urge to protest from. Also reading these I'm unconvinced that she comes from a wealthy background, most likely her place at this expensive private school was on scholarship.

Left school with no qualifications. At 30 got a 1st in philosophy, did an MA, worked, did another masters, worked and then realised it's all crap. Was retreating, going sailing....then #ExtinctionRebellion made my life finally have sense.

Yep. Carrot topping, strawberry, gooseberry and blackberry picking etc. Single parent mother after father died. One of seven siblings. Free school meals...left school at 16 with no qualification and joined army as best option. Don't let left wing twerp tells us who we are

And tfl should ban their use in bus lanes. Its simply another perk for the wealthy.

On the other hand, apparently this is her mum, who is paid very well indeed:

Four-day council boss on six-figure salary

It’s local election day for most of the country – though not in South Cambridgeshire. The Lib Dem led District Council there has been in the news a lot this week but not for the right reasons. Council bosses there have just hailed the ‘overwhelmingly p...

Tell me you've never given a woman an orgasm without telling me you've never given a woman an orgasm.

Isn't that the correct way to describe that?

Another fine interview with Prof Stock on Radio Sussex this morning, starts around the four minute mark:

Interviewer: What would say to the head of the students union who refuses to debate, because they've done it for so long and it's just too exhausting?

KS: I'd tell them to get their iron levels checked.

Datun · 31/05/2023 13:25

Good job women never gave up on campaigning because they were too knackered, isn't it?

ArabeIIaScott · 31/05/2023 13:27

KS: I'd tell them to get their iron levels checked.

😁

ArabeIIaScott · 31/05/2023 13:33

'Expressing the idea that biology is immutable has chilling consequences for those who feel that they are at odds with society’s notions of sexuality and gender. Be they in Uganda or Oxford, people are right to protest vigorously against this idea'

Billy Bragg

'biology is immutable'? WTF is he on about? SEX is immutable. What aspect of biology does he mean? What wafflepish.

AutumnCrow · 31/05/2023 13:39

Bragg is nuts

I'm actually starting to wonder if there is actually something wrong with him. He cannot possibly believe the stuff he's coming out with. It's sheer nonsense.

Ah happy memories of dancing to Temple of Love in the Zodiac up Oxford's Cowley Road on the Thursday goth & metal night!!

Anyway @Tabitha1960 that's v interesting info. I think Riz still has quite a bit of growing up to do.

RealityFan · 31/05/2023 13:50

Gosh #1.

A debate critically revolving around the concept of free speech instills more fear and loathing from students and academics than ones from Holocaust deniers, the head of Britain's most openly racist party, and a world famous wife beater and murderer.

Gosh #2.

A decade or more of No Debate leads to the most lukewarm and conciliatory of programmes on C4 that is considered by the No Debaters as beyond the pale.

I've seen snails move and paint dry faster than the glacial progress of this "debate".

He's so cloth eared isn't he?

FGM is still a HUGE problem in rural Uganda despite being outlawed in 2010. I'm sure these young girls wish desperately that they could get out of it by informing their mothers that "the idea that bilogy is immutable" is"chilling".

What they need is rights and education. Trans cultism is a luxury belief.

Ohyoudodoyou · 31/05/2023 13:55

Just watching the end of 'Gender Wars' - the debate where that Kass person said such hateful things.
5 minutes ago I was at Prode, walking alongside my gay and lesbian friends with our kids.
I think the first inkling of change came when I saw lesbians marching with posters about trans men.
I was surprised, didn't know what it was and was unconcerned - in fact truthfully I thought it was a bit 'unkind'.
At that point I'd never even heard of the term 'transphobic' - this was probably at one of the Pride marches 6 years ago.
Now we know what they were talking about, I constantly feel shellshocked at the sports, business, arts budging over women have had to do. I've spoken to many women and we all feel the same but so fear of speaking up is still a thing.
I wish it could be as it was, without all the Hetero opportunists gegging in and pushing us out.

My (funny, clever, beautiful) friend went on a date with Billy Bragg. He was very boring.

RayonSunrise · 31/05/2023 14:46

What I think is different is that I can't think of a single protest I ever went on - peace marches, animal rights events, anti war, anti poll tax, anti student loans, women's rights, etc, that was ever directed at one person.

The targeting of individuals like this seems new.

I've notice this too, and I wonder if it's due to a gap in anti-bullying education. The youngsters have all been told since they were tiny it's mean to go after weaker people, but perhaps no-one's told then realised that assembling a mob to attack someone even if she seems quite strong doesn't actually mean you're on the side of angels?
