If anyone is a member of the Oxford Union it says her talk is at 5pm tomorrow.

Is anyone from FWR going?

Where are all these trans deaths? Surely if there was some great wave of deceased people, there’d be some sort of media attention about it all?

littlbrowndog · 30/05/2023 23:05

Thanks Kathleen. Just finished watching ❤️❤️

Amiad Haran Diman, president of the university's LGBTQ+ Society, said they had received death threats in the post after speaking out against Prof Stock's invitation to the event.
"We have received thousands of comments online. Some of them very homophobic, very transphobic, hateful, threatening," they said.

Show us them then. (quote from BBC news report)

I'm sure they did. There's a lot of angry and nasty people out there who don't like homosexuality or gender non conformity and will be more than happy to put the boot in "on behalf of women".

We know we don't share their views, we don't see them as allies, and we know they're equally happy to put the boot into feminists for not conforming to sexist ideas of womanhood. However I doubt those on the receiving end are particularly bothered about differentiating between the various groups that oppose them. They just see a faceless mass of bigottransphobeterfnaziness.

And she will have to live with that photo for the rest of her life. Hey Ho!

Compare and contrast!

That is a photo whose caption is clearly “Yes, she’s going through a difficult phase at the moment but nursery say she’ll grow out of it. We just ignore her.”

That's a very unfortunate photo.

Gluing your hands to the floor isn't much of a protest, if everyone's oblivious to it and you look like you're on the naughty chair for a time out.

Bearsinmotion · 31/05/2023 05:45

Is anyone else looking at the photo of Prof Stock and hearing the theme music from Reservoir Dogs?

Justme56 · 31/05/2023 06:27

I gather the girl has been in the press a few times - a serial protestor? Anti monarchy, extinction rebellion, stop oil (part of the Tower Bridge protest) etc.

WhiteFire · 31/05/2023 07:01

Some perhaps were, but some is a very undefined number, and just being told you are wrong is not hateful.

Her Dad is also a protester / activist it seems

Why do this lot of young protesters (and I include them all), sound and act so immaturely. When we were young, our causes seemed so distinct and arguable such as 'ban the bomb' and 'sex discrimination'. It all seems so vague and emotional

Seainasive · 31/05/2023 08:04

Does anyone know if there is a recording? I was working and missed the live stream.

potniatheron · 31/05/2023 08:14

I think Kathleen Stock's been so brave and set out her points in a very reasoned way. There's no doubt which side came across as the most reasoned and intelligent.

I'm a member of the OU, I don't love it, full of wannabe MPs as a PP said. But I do also applaud them for putting the debate on and not being forced by hysterical TRAs into a 'No Platform' position.

I'm also really pleased that Rishi Sunak voiced his support for KS. When you've got death threats, threats of violence and blatant misogyny whizzing around, it's so important for women to know that the Government supports our right to speak.

I hope Starmer takes the same position when he becomes PM next year.

Every time something like this happens, more people are peaked and I'm here for it :-)

I'm starting to think when children don't have boundaries they go mad combined that with heated group teen think and emotional fears of identity and belonging + "the internet" here we are on the edge of that madness. George Galloway who supports Russia in the war with Ukraine gave a speech there a month ago without issue.

Croneofakind · 31/05/2023 08:31

I'm sure Riz put a lot of thought and effort into their protest. Shame that they didn't realise that the desk obscuring part of their shirt means that they will forever be associated with the message "Dead Trans kids" with no information on whether they support that concept or not. Not great optics Riz.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/05/2023 08:32

I had the same thought!

This.

Hi all I’ve just joined. I used to work in the NHS as a psychologist and the damage I see happening to young people is devastating. I left because I believe in both science and do no harm. I’ve followed this page for sometime and want to chime in and say how happy I am that there are still sane, science based women (and men) around to fight.

Truthlikeness · 31/05/2023 08:40

The BBC News report wasn't great. The first half particularly made it sound like Stock's views are abhorrent but it's important to let her express them if we value free speech, rather than admitting her views are utterly mainstream.

She looks very foolish. I love the way the adults around her are looking on with an air of boredom, their postures very relaxed.

I’ve had two friends ask to borrow my copy of Material Girls today. I hope this is Kathleen Stock’s moment to shine now as she deserves it so much. I also sincerely hope that the University of Sussex, students and all, reflects on the way it treated her.

I wonder if lockdown has robbed them of two years of maturity - at a time when they would have been learning how to critically analyse and developing mentally as young adults they were stuck in front of a computer with their tribes on SM.

Some Twitter comments from trans activists are incredible. All the pretence that trans isn't purely sexist stereotypes seems to have completely evaporated.

It's more that they just don't understand what we are saying. They think we believe gender roles have to be tied to sex. They think the only way to be "free" of sexism is to see the gender role and not the sex. They don't realise they could just .... let go of gender roles altogether.

🤦‍♀️ They just don’t get it, do they?

BezMills · 31/05/2023 09:02

It's just ludicrous. She's gender non-conforming, so she's trans? What absolute shite. She's a homosexual adult female who apparently likes to wear a pair of trousers and currently has a short haircut.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/05/2023 09:07

These people are so obsessed with gender and sex stereotypes that it's all they see.
