This was in a Colorado - Utah race a couple of days ago. Apologies if there's already a thread. I didn't see one.

Interestingly, this was in the race for cyclists aged 40-49. I wonder if older athletes are less likely to stand for this nonsense. Anyway, good for them. I hope this spreads to younger cyclists and other sports.

Cyclists No Show Post-Race Podium After Biological Male Finishes 1st In Female Race

Trans cyclist Lesley Mumford proudly posted an Instagram photo standing atop the first-place podium. But he was all alone.

Glad the article refers to him as a he. Refusing to be on the podium is an excellent way to show disapproval, I really hope it will be adopted in all these sporting farces. There seems to a definite turn in the tide regarding bowing down to these self centred men.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 22/05/2023 09:29

Cyclists must pay to enter races. I wouldn’t give money to a race which doesn’t protect the women’s category and make the men’s the open category. The non binary category provides a place for second rate men to win prize money and so more men will get prize money than women, that is not equality between the sexes.

Women need to run our own events.

MrsCarson · 22/05/2023 09:30

He said I have no idea why so many people bailed before the podiums, but they did,” Mumford wrote.
Read the room Dude!

"He placed ahead of 43 females in the age group and beat the second place finisher by a whopping 17 minutes and 19 seconds. He beat the third place winner by more than 30 minutes."

That DM article says the time difference as 17 seconds but the original is correct I think, with 17 minutes.

Misstache · 22/05/2023 09:53

Well, now I’m sure they’ll make a new rule that if you don’t show up to podium you’re disqualified. And then women who legitimately have to leave to pick up kids or any of the other million duties women have will suffer.

"The event has a non-binary category, but Mumford chose to enter as a woman instead."

Says it all really.

That makes me so angry for the women. Good on them for refusing to share the podium with the man.

A clearer protest, but the wording of this article is a mess: a 'transgender female' who was 'incorrectly' referred to as a "trans-identified male'.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12109103/amp/California-high-school-athlete-gives-thumbs-4th-place-finish-trans-competitor-took-2nd.html?

That article’s rather confusing and the photo is misleading, unfortunately - the person who took second place is a transgirl, ie male-bodied, and they chose a shot that shows the moment the 4th placed competitor, Adeline Johnson, gave a thumbs down. But it was snapped midway through the ceremony, when they were all in the process of climbing onto the podium.

There was some organised outside protest at the event, though, which is encouraging. As there should be - Johnson was pushed out of a chance to run for a state title: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places went through. Yet another cheat winning a place that should have gone to a woman.

'She had no idea'?

The 'food' thing is nonsense, she was getting some water for her guide dog.

😂

"A spokesperson for the competition reiterated Kriete’s statement that the women had simply left to get food, not as a form of protest.

“At no time did any rider report any concern to us or protest [against] these results,” the post said. “We have confirmed that the age group winner has undergone all required surgeries and treatments to transition from a man to a woman and would thereby qualify as a woman racer under both USA Cycling and International Olympic Committee rules."

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command".

Even Orwell could never have anticipated this level of delusion and falsehood.

I have no idea about races in the USA but actually under British Cycling rules it already is against the rules not to show up for podium ceremonies and has been for ages, though the penalty is forfeiture of prizes +/- a fine, not disqualification. (In road racing anyway, I don't know about other types of cycling though I would imagine it's universal across all BC races.) So it is yet another hurdle for women riders. Potentially lose your position and points to a man and then lose your prize as well if you protest in this way.

OldCrone · 22/05/2023 20:28

“We have confirmed that the age group winner has undergone all required surgeries and treatments to transition from a man to a woman

Not possible. People can't change sex.

ChrisPNoodles · 22/05/2023 20:42

Everything else aside, what a hateful and hollow victory it must be if you have competed against people over whom you know you have a physical advantage.

It's like playing down a rung on the squash ladder in order to win. What sort of a person would take any glory from it?

This feeling was what I began with, an attempt to try to understand why someone would wish to do this, what they think others see when they stand on that podium?

Why would anyone enjoy this kind of a victory? Unless the point really is to give a finger to all female people by taking over the sport in a way which will contribute to its disappearance? Based on anger at women, perhaps, or thinking that women's sports have existed long enough now and so can be destroyed for various private reasons?

Someone wrote that there are trans women who identify AS women but don't seem to identify at all WITH women. I see this more and more.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 22/05/2023 21:03

“We have confirmed that the age group winner has undergone all required surgeries and treatments to transition from a man to a woman”

The keyword is “required”. By whom? If you believe that it is in fact possible to transition from a man to a woman what are the “required” surgeries and treatments, what evidence was produced and how was it verified. How does surgery and treatment turn a man into a woman?

But yeah changing sex is not possible. I’m never going to get anyone pregnant, I’ve been pregnant myself but I’m never going to be an “inseminator” nor have the physical prowess that goes with it nor the social status that it confers.

When I read your question about what kind of person would do this and lacking any self awareness, get any satisfaction out of it, the first thought that comes to mind is the baddy in “A series of unfortunate events”, Count Olaf.

I wonder could the women have their own medal ceremony?

Biological women - and the actual winners and runners up be awarded.

Let the non bios have their solo event?

4plusthehound · 22/05/2023 21:20

OldGardinia · 22/05/2023 07:48

It's something. But really women need to refuse to compete. This will not change until organizations are forced to it.

i wonder if there is a way to do it within the contaxt of the race?

They train so bloody hard - why do they have to stand down?

What if the biological women do not take off at the start as a protest? The bio male will be expected to come in say 10 minutes in advance - so have the bio women start 10 minutes later and do the real race? Let the non bio participent have the fantasy....

And I mean do it as a protest - not formalized with the authorities as they obviously do not give a hoot about us.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/05/2023 21:28

all required surgeries and treatments

'Required'. Looks like a word, doesn't it? It's not - it's a weasel.

Because legally, nothing is required.

Plasmodesmata · 22/05/2023 21:34

What do you think would have happened to 2nd and 3rd place women if they had said when tracked down - Yep it was a protest, didn't want to be on the podium as I feel it was unfair?

Nonstop harassment, I suspect.

Oh and I meant actual 1st place and actual 2nd place, of course.
