Continuation of Thread 4.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I have a powerful, convenient and very handsome device for all my domestic strength needs. He's called (redacted) and he's my youngest.

Boiledbeetle · 05/06/2023 18:47

I test these sorts of items for a designer.

I have a draw full of very strange prototypes and various videos of me using them!

There are some awful ones out there!

I'll be back in a second with my No1 jar opening gadget (and it's not from the designer I test for)

I bought that one for my mum and she liked it so much she has bought it (purchasing method: "Darling, could you possibly go to the Amazon and send me...?") for several friends!

I would genuinely, GENUINELY like to know what the thing for opening bleach bottles is. I really struggle with them (arthritis) and end up biting the cap to apply the necessary pressure. A sure recipe for ruined clothes and/or poisoning.

I do that to my sister if its anywhere not Amazon.

I don't have a bleach bottle to try but the attached works on safety, like pill bottle tops and the push in toilet duck type lids

I have a jar key! Googling bleach bottle openers doesn't show the exact one I have (a sort of v-shaped heavy plastic thing that you push over the cap from the side to squeeze it, then use as a handle to twist), but there are several - worth reading the reviews.

I started buying these things, and getting easy to turn on taps, when my parents were getting old, and am now delighted to have them myself. See also a stool to sit on in the shower.

Boiledbeetle · 05/06/2023 20:35

Turning into a decrepit old fart has been a whirlwind of buying devices i never knew I needed! Or existed!

I get excited these days when the ableworld leaflet pops through the door!

She completely nails it - why Walsh makes my skin crawl. His little wifey in the kitchen needing the big strong man to take the lid of a jar. Fuck off.

You see, that made me laugh because I'm rubbish at opening jars and Mr Gonners is fully aware that it is, as far as I'm concerned, pretty much the sole purpose of his existence.

Going to be honest i watched that bit, that was obviously set up, thinking bet he has to ask her to get the lid off jars.

I read this article after going down a Twitter rabbit hole that might have started from something I clicked on here. I hadn't thought too much about trans widows before, I guess I'd bought the hype that most of them are okay with it. Stupid of me I know. Anyway, this woman's experience made me feel so sad and ignorant.

That's a depressing and distressing read, mouseyM. The isoloation she experienced ...

Poor woman.

Kucinghitam · 06/06/2023 08:55

That was a distressing read @MouseMinge. So clear how everybody on TRSOH really did expect her to be a partially-sentient support biped.

I needed a laugh. He's not saying anything new and, for all I know, he may be a Nazi but, meh! And there's a jingle 😃

I've been skimming through the Oxfam thread over my (very late) lunch break. It's really rather fascinating what Oxfam have done, because it's again the recurring theme of TRSOH: no limit on how offensively racist/sexist/etc they can be, no limit on pious fraud, no boundaries on what kind of ghastly behaviour they enable. It's so very familiar.

Love the jingle.

I didn't want to start a thread for this because a) I'm not sure it's legit b) Perhaps it means something else in the States.

If it's for real, the push ad at the top is an unfortunate coincidence

There's a photo on Twitter going around of some grown ass man wearing THAT tshirt!

IcakethereforeIam · 06/06/2023 19:01

Ugh, grim!

Boiledbeetle · 06/06/2023 19:15

I can't find it now my Twitter feed is currently awash with tweets all basically calling Oxfam arseholes!

duc748 · 06/06/2023 19:42

Just seen the Oxfam thread, bloody hell! It seems like everywhere you look, there's people being complete and utter arseholes. And, doubtless, feeling smug about it.

IcakethereforeIam · 06/06/2023 19:48

'Protect the Pride'!? Jaysus, Oxfam obviously thinks protect means screw up, might explain their behaviour in Haiti.

Boiledbeetle · 06/06/2023 20:37

You know I feel grubby every time I do this (I'd be a useless second hand car saleswoman)...

Shines shoes on back of trouser leg. Smooths down hair. Rings bell. (Door opens- obviously not a mumsnetter house, they never answer the door) Wedges foot into gap.

Good evening....

Under the Duvet of Darkness a book written by some mumsnetters now available in e-book format as well as paperback.

Look at it. All shiny in the No1 spot on Hot New Poetry Releases.

Go on ... You know you want to. The e-book even comes with an extra 20 poems. With the added bonus text to talk is enabled so the lovely Kindle voice has to read out all the Mumsnet names and say Fuck Off a lot!😁

100% profit going to For Women Scotland.

If nothing else it worth a look at the page to see my author photo.

Ooh, is the ebook out 😊 I've been avoiding the thread because I haven't composed a poem yet, my notifications are making me feel very guilty.

You know you can just go and chat shit on there as well don't you? (I need chapter soundbites for volume 2 😋)

StephanieSuperpowers · 06/06/2023 21:12

I'd only been avoiding it because I'm allergic to poetry. Fearless iconoclast or culture less idiot?!
