Continuation of Thread 4.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I developed an allergy to poetry around age 14 but I loved this book (no-one was asking me to dissect the meanings).

Gonners · 06/06/2023 21:33

Thanks for flagging that up, @Boiledbeetle - On the assumption that it bears no resemblance to the sheer ghastliness of Wordsworth, I'm looking forward to tonight's bedtime reading.

Boiledbeetle · 06/06/2023 21:35

Now you see if English at school had meant we got to read such wonders as the poem attached I wouldn't have spent so much time looking out the window when I was supposed to be dissecting what some dead bloke meant 100 years earlier when he wrote blah blah blah blah blah.

No resemblance to Wordsworth. Although some women did some fantastic rewrites of well known poems.😁

I didn't want to start a thread for this because a) I'm not sure it's legit b) Perhaps it means something else in the States.

If it's for real, the push ad at the top is an unfortunate coincidence

This isn't the photo i meant but it is being worn by an adult in this photo

i I grow old ... I grow old ...
I shall wear my corsets femininely rolled.

Shall I dye my hair bright pink? Do I dare to dress in peach?
I shall wear pink bikini, and sashay down the beach.
I have heard the mermaids chortling - how they screech!

Nice rewriting of TS Eliot there! 💐

The word mermaids definitely has another meaning these days!

Finally got around to buying it! I need to do a pome for the next edition. If there's one thing I'm good at it's taking a famous poem and mucking about with it.

Ooh excellent! As I've hijacked this thread enough this evening if anyone does fancy writing a poem it can be deposited in the thread below. Otherwise I'll have to trawl threads trying to remember where poems are, and then seek individual permissions which is soul destroyingly tedious as no one reads their PMs. But having had lengthy discussions of what I could justify as assumed consent if you post it on the book thread below the conversation about putting them in a book had already been had in thread 1! And by thread 2 it's a done deal that a poem posted will go in the next one. Mainly because people kept posting them!

I keep waiting for one of the dissenting voices posters to write one but that's not happened yet

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4816472-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet-thread-2?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

And the more poems I get from other people the less times I have to post poems under different user names😁

And now I shall take my leave.

Night night.

I suppose it's because it's the Holy Week of Pride but I am living in a state irritation. In fact, in the words of Dylan, "I can feel the bones beneath my skin and they're tremblimg with rage".

I've just read this:

https://www.nhsconfed.org/publications/leading-all-supporting-trans-and-non-binary-healthcare-staff

It's just instructions, with apparent organisational force, that will certainly be used in Trusts, that amount to the worship and never-challange of TRA. Misgendering is transphobic. Is it bollocks transphobic.

Compelled speech on religiuous grounds. Fuck off.

Leading for all: supporting trans and non-binary healthcare staff

Supporting leaders to understand the needs of trans and non-binary colleagues so they can perform their duties and provide high-quality allyship.

duc748 · 07/06/2023 11:06

What a load of dispiriting bollix! And I'm sure unions are no bloody use either, they've all signed up.

angelico53 · 07/06/2023 11:11

I've resigned from Unison because of their unthinking stance on this. I only joined to put some money behind a left wing group aftyer I tore up my Labour card.

I am coming to the conclusion that most people simply don't give a shit or are too stupid to think.

duc748 · 07/06/2023 11:17

Unthinking is the word. Signing up to something that doesn't stand a moment's thoughtful analysis.

weaseleyes · 07/06/2023 11:22

I'm in UCU. Sigh

It is a rage inducing document!

Bathroom and shower facilites page 59 of pdf

Examples A non-binary staff member working in a residential care facility does not feel comfortable using the female or male staff toilets. They share this with their manager, who suggests that they use the disabled toilet instead. The nonbinary employee accepts this as an adjustment and continues to the disabled toilet following this conversation.

A patient staying at the residential facility questions why the non-binary staff member uses the disabled toilet, and as their manager does not know if they have consent to share their gender identity with patients, explains to them that their employee feels more comfortable using this toilet, and that they have the right to do so.

A female member of staff who has medically transitioned needs to shower at the end of her shift. She feels unsafe using the women’s showers because other women know her trans status and have made belittling comments in the past. As using the men’s showers would be unsafe and inappropriate, she requests use of a private cubicle in which to shower. Her manager, recognising the nuance of the situation, allows this.

If there are no private shower facilities available, the manager may consider other accommodations that could be made, such as negotiating a time in which the trans employee can shower during which other staff agree not to enter.

never mind all the other bollocks: who suggests that they use the disabled toilet instead. How fucking dare they!

Britinme · 07/06/2023 12:59

And no suggestion at all about how safe the women feel about having to share their shower with a male-bodied person.

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/06/2023 17:04

And no suggestion at all about how safe the women feel about having to share their shower with a male-bodied person.

But asking that question would imply that women are important with relevant views, and everyone knows that's just false.

Not saying a word. Nope!. Not one single word. Not going to say anything at all. Nada. Zilch.

GRIFTING LARPER

MavisMcMinty · 07/06/2023 21:37

Yeuch, that’s a whole lotta love for Mulvaney from Them.

Although it does sound like Mulvaney learnt a lesson or two from recent events.

MouseMinge · 07/06/2023 22:52

The idea of him being a trans activist made me laugh. He's a Dylan Mulvaney activist. The arty photos make a change from giggly girlhood but most of what he has to say is the same old same old. If he stopped sharing every aspect of his life online he wouldn't know what else to do. I'm just waiting for 365 days of detransitioning.

YouTube threw this in my face. Mr Bean for PM!

Just watched this. He would make a fantastic PM. Can you imagine him with his sarcasm and mannerisms on the floor of parliament. It would be the most watched channel on tv.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/06/2023 13:08

This was flagged on Glinner's twitter, so I went looking for the original and it is real. It's the last bit. The juxtaposition of calling lesbians 'non-men' then saying how they suffer from discrimination!

Fortunately my irony meter is on a circuit breaker otherwise I think it would have taken out the electricity for the entire neighbourhood.
