Continuation of Thread 4.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Saw this on the twitters.

https://skepticalinquirer.org/2023/06/the-ideological-subversion-of-biology/

This is quite interesting because of the overlap between Science-Based Medcine (imfluential website promoting science in medicine but with a horrific blindspot re transitions) and Skeptical Inquirer. I think most here would agree very much with some of their 6 illustrations about ideology vs science, notably their first, but might struggle with the others.

Thank you for this fascinating, thought provoking article!
I'm not on twitter so might not have come across it otherwise.

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn it's depressing the number of women who think we should put up and shut up. And, of course, be nice even when it's at the expense of our best interests.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/06/2023 18:10

Found this on Glinner's twitter

Woman who claims she was discriminated against by the Open University because of her GC beliefs.

Jo Phoenix was OU as well, wasn't she?

IcakethereforeIam · 23/06/2023 18:40

Yes, another case that's dragging on.

There's something else about a band that's been kicked off Leigh Folk(?) Festival for some unspecified wrong think. The band, called Whom By Fire, think it's because one of their band members posted on social media complaining about children being sexualised and a children's author being feted who seems to be pro-paedophilia. The Festival is being headlined by Jordan Gray Hmm

Theband have defended themselves quite robustly, referring to protected beliefs. So, perhaps this will make it to court. The Festival have locked down most of their social media. Haven't clarified what the wrong think is, just against their values, also unspecified.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/06/2023 19:10

If your values clash with Jordan Gray, you're probably fine.

Ain't that the truth.

Truly nasty TRA shite at Dublin pride - photoshopping old photos from the start of LG protesting to include transactivism that did not exist. Rewriting history in a blatant way:

Bastards editing the Dublin pride photos. It's always a punch in the gut seeing the images because one of the triggers for the march was my cousin's murder and the court system sending his killers out to live their lives. The police and the system really were not on the marchers' side.

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/06/2023 12:04

Im so sorry for your family's loss, Elderberry. These activists are the cuckoos in every nest they get into.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/06/2023 12:02

Fairly inconsequential but amusing YouTube to bump the thread. It does have a tenuous FWR connection. From the old stonewalls (snigger) lining the roads I wonder if they were there to service garrisons.

There's a Grove Lane near me. There used to be an army base tooConfused

Lovely! My Dad tells me that today’s swear words used to be normal non-offensive words when everyone had to shit, pee and fuck in front of each other. Then when we started/had the resources to make those activities private, the words became taboo as well as the acts.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/06/2023 00:08

I don’t know where to start with this mess: twitter.com/DuncanHenry78/status/1673308447725477890?

MouseMinge · 27/06/2023 00:45

I'll watch that later but was the street name, Gropecunt Lane? There are a few of those all over the country including one in the City of London which I think is not called Grape Lane or something like that.

MouseMinge · 27/06/2023 00:47

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn Yep, I don't know where to start either. It's just. It's a lot.

duc748 · 27/06/2023 01:15

It's mad as fuck. Co-opting; the new growth industry.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/06/2023 09:48

The good thing is they seem.to be getting thoroughly ratioed. (They've even annoyed the autism awareness group that apparently created the original image, by using it and adding their logo without permission.)

duc748 · 27/06/2023 10:47

Reading a bit more of that link than I read last night, I see another poster adds

I have ADHD too, Duncan. The Irish autism charity, As I Am, are similarly captured. The Irish State is captured and run by NGOs.

These fuckers seem to have captured NGOs, charities, etc, all over the Western world.

It’s now called……

……..Cock Lane.

(I know because I work there occasionally)

RudsyFarmer · 27/06/2023 10:51

I was going to write something else on here yesterday but had no time.

So I was watching this debate about the young pregnant woman in America who was arguing with a group of young, black males (relevant) over a prebooked City Bike. Apparently it’s massively blown up over there as a racist incident. She has been suspended from her job in healthcare with the presumption that it was racially motivated. Ie she marched up to the group of young males to steal a prepaid for bike off of them for her own use.

it has since been proved that she had indeed prepaid for this bike and had the receipt which has been proved to be legitimate but in a way that’s beside the point I’m going to make.

During this altercation she was accused of ‘weaponising her tears’’. The young man recording was making regular comments about her tears, how they weren’t real and in subsequent newspaper articles a woman’s tears were being help responsible for the death of innocent men historically.

it struck me that we’ve now got women’s tears being accused of murder. Women’s words being literal violence and our body parts being so offensive we need to rename them. It’s fascinating.

IcakethereforeIam · 27/06/2023 11:03

I thought that lady had been completely vindicated, is it still going on? I often burst into tears in stressful situations. I don't usually want to, it's embarrassing but I can't control it. I would probably have been bawling my eyes out in that situation. 'White women's tears' has become a thing used to dismiss legitimate issues.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 27/06/2023 11:30

Bullies always hate the people who let them see the hurt they've caused. And whatever happens, it's always a woman's fault.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/06/2023 11:48

Oxfam had a whole staff training pamphlet on exactly that - white women weaponising their tears and wanting rapists arrested are the direct cause of all sexual violence.
