I love a good pair of spats for when I'm on my broomstick. My eyesight isn't what it was and they are useful for when I fly a little too low over trees... fashionable and functional!

highame · 13/05/2023 09:29

Could someone give me a hand with this sofa? Also, meeting sons girlfriend this weekend and have overbought on nibbles. Fridge crammed full, so get stuck in.

How long will it be before Companies come to their senses and start culling their EDD's and get back to commerce? I'm guessing 2025

Leftoverssandwich · 13/05/2023 09:50

My company recently rolled out private health care for us all. It excludes pregnancy, menopause, menstrual and mental health conditions, but covers the full costs of treatment for gender dysphoria. Presumably at this point an underwriter’s decision based on likely payout for each of those issues but I wonder whether we will start to see a lot more trans colleagues joining us.

Obviously we get a lot of talk about how important it is to support colleagues experiencing menopause, work/life balance when having children etc, but that doesn’t extend to covering the costs of any of it.

The Tall Clapper has been named by the DM. Neighbours are nervous.

Got a link, @dapsnotplimsolls ?

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/05/2023 10:01

Not sure about the etiquette of posting a link that names someone - on the previous thread, some posters were saying it could be an issue if it goes to trial.

Raving, Luna ✔

StephanieSuperpowers · 13/05/2023 10:16

To be honest, I think there's a lot more detail there than the situation warrants.

I haven't heard any updates to this, but its inspired a trend on the tikkitytok of Starbuck employees relaying their own devastating experiences being misgendered. I'm not sure how that's different from the countless other videos with the same theme, but anyway, Starbs announced a while back that they will cover affirming surgeries and time off, only to recently walk it back because their workforce is now comprised of people like this.

I'll bet they were just working there until they'd had their bits rearranged at Starbucks expense, then they'd have been off to take the world by storm.

I didn't realise they'd gone back on this. Seems sensible just on a cost basis, from what I've read about the costs of "gender affirming" surgeries, after care, corrective surgeries etc etc.

Not to mention getting dragged into the inevitable lawsuits when they all detransition . . .

Oh dear - revealing these details can compromise the justice system if they look as though they might affect the fairness of a trial.

Leftoverssandwich · 13/05/2023 10:50

I don’t think there’s any need to print what are clearly private photos including a child.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 13/05/2023 11:06

Private photos aren't really a thing anymore though are they? I imagine Luna had various social media accounts, set to public, from which those photos have been taken. So they were already published into the public domain, by Luna. Private photos are only private if they are kept so in the first place.

VaddaABeetch · 13/05/2023 11:08

Luna sounds as though Luna has found an opportunity to promote a Bullies Charter positioned behind the Trans Flag.

StephanieSuperpowers · 13/05/2023 11:09

Calling up former school mates, parents neighbours is too much. Luna has been fired, police dealing with it, it doesn't merit a complete excavation of Luna's life so far.

OrbandSpectacle · 13/05/2023 11:25

This could go two ways. TRA becoming incensed and claiming a DM trans witch hunt, or trans, NB etc in general being moe mindful of trying to enforce genderwoo on the mainly not bothered public.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 13/05/2023 11:38

There is an argument for "in the public interest" her though I think. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty unpleasant journalism, but so is a lot of stuff!

Trans rights are a hot topic right now. The Mail has been getting more and more involved in this - which is good. It has a huge readership and we need sunlight on this issue. Two years ago this wouldn't even have made mainstream press. A year ago there would have bee so much woolly language that it would have been almost impossible to work out which sex anyone was. And there would have been quotes from Stonewall or Mermaids talking about the terrible trauma and persecution of trans people as a result of misgendering - pushing the 'most vulnerable minority' idea again. This article lays out pretty damn clearly that this is a male with a history of kicking off and spoiling for a fight. That's important as it is further evidence of the angry narcissism of the TRA movement.

Yes I agree about the public interest here (although I don’t think they should be going back as far as school days).

The ‘most vulnerable minority’ claim is a travesty and makes a mockery of genuinely vulnerable groups and this incident has put the a spotlight on the intolerance and aggressive tactics used ostensibly to protect trans people but actually causing a lot of harm.

I find the hypocrisy sickening too.

Someone so woke and sensitised to trauma and persecution attacking a woman in this way? He very well knew the customer wasn’t called Karen so it was a deliberate misnaming and not any old name, a known derisive slur. He didn’t call her ‘a Karen’, he used it as a name ‘you’re being transphobic Karen’. Quite serious for someone dedicated to defending identity rights? A person’s name is a pretty significant identifier.

TrashyPanda · 13/05/2023 12:17

Luna was verbally abusive and intimidating in public

what is coming out about Luna is sauce for the gander.

I note Luna has a jacket with a tartan lining - is that cultural appropriation? (Joke in case anyone is wondering)

I had a look at the FB page of Vanessa’s partner, who took the video, after comments I saw that they were obviously dodgy. The comments on the video on there are a mix of his friends and people who have found it, and it has got a bit weird, but the early comments from friends are all basically on the lines of ‘people should feel free to be who they want to be but not everyone is going to be interested or noticed’.

It’s not people disliking anyone who is different - they’re just pointing out that most people don’t really care what anyone else is up to and so no one should expect to be the centre of anyone else’s existence. They’re not people contributing to a trans debate, just offering a pretty pragmatic view of the whole thing.

I wish this kind of sensible view could be given more airtime!

I just don't understand how performing something you really don't believe is "respect". To me it feels like the opposite.

In a church for example, out of respect I will be quiet and not go into the areas I'm not supposed to. I will listen to the music or service. But, equally out of respect, as an atheist I don't say prayers, I don't take communion. To perform those things would feel deeply disrespectful both to myself and to Christians.

Bringing over coffee from the happy place.

I briefly had knitted spats in 1982 - I returned them to Boots, in the late 80s I had the hiking ones but no idea what happened to them.

Anyway I do have a cauldron and a pointy hat (and a couple of spell books).

You can knit spats????

off to find a pattern on Ravelry

i knitted a thistle pattern cowl in white, purple and green for a protest rally outside the Scottish Parliament earlier this year.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 13/05/2023 12:19

The double standards are appalling. This is from the mail article,

In another post she writes: ‘Labels are important with gender identity because without labels we wouldn’t have identity. Labels are not the problem. Bigotry and intolerance of difference is the problem. Labels should be celebrated and used to build one’s character and sense of self.’

Leaving aside the total idiocy of 'without labels we wouldn't have an identity' (how about, "me"?) this person believes that the name creates the self - and yet had the arrogant presumption to impose the label "Karen" on to her customer. How dare Luna attack Vanessa's character and sense of self in that way?
