It’s not clear what the customer said, it’s presumed she misgenders the employee as he calls her transphobic. He calls her Karen and then either grabs the phone or the person who’s filming.

Perhaps they are an issue behind the counter too

My first thought when I watched was “this person is a nightmare to work with”.

I am so shocked by that. I thought that Mermaids were actually closed down after the publicity , I hadn’t realised that it was still functioning. Shocking.

They’ve just kept their heads down for a bit and not changed. The evidence that that marketing campaign is still published asserts their status. It’s an effective strategy, just watch and wait, and they’ll be back to normal.

Here’s just one example where “business as usual” is operating. Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust have selected a mental health charity to provide NHS services on their behalf. A charity who continue to use Mermaids as a trusted operator in child and young adult mental health services.

https://www.ymcadlg.org/?s=Mermaids

Mermaids work to raise awareness about gender nonconformity in children and young people. They provide resources and information as a reference point for professionals supporting a gender non-conforming or transgender young person.”

I’m sure “it’s an oversight” etc etc. Large organisation and so on. Took me 30 seconds to find it. Maybe actually choosing to look for it (and the others) is the oversight.

The evidence here shows that professional gatekeeping we rely on to keep our kids safe isn’t operating.

Despicable behaviour from the Starbucks employee no matter who they identify as..deliberately misnaming her as an insult, shouting in a customers face, refusing to serve & then refund & then assaulting another customer!
Why on earth did the shift manager on duty not step in or at the very least one of his colleagues?!

SerendipityJane · 08/05/2023 15:36

Badgeringabout · 08/05/2023 15:32

Horrible violent man. He was a hair's breadth from hitting her and then went on to physically attack the bloke filming by the looks of it. How fucking dare he call her 'Karen' too?

I cannot see the new reviews - have they been taken down? All I can see are old ones...

Reviews are still up. You need to sort by "newest"

Badgeringabout · 08/05/2023 15:38

Found them now!

'If you enjoy being verbally berated and physically assaulted by the staff, this is the place for you.
Not a safe experience for women. That's ACTUAL women.'

People are not pulling their punches!

Tessabelle74 · 08/05/2023 15:39

Loving the Google reviews, my favourite so far 😂

Wow, never using Starbucks again!

SerendipityJane · 08/05/2023 15:41

I imagine the reviews will be pulled when the chocolate factory (friends with Pike Place when it comes to tax dodging) wakes up. So screenshots will be useful.

They probably were the shift manager 🙈

That is terrible! The aggression. Apparently the employee has been fired:

Trans ideology is similar to religion and there is no compulsion to believe in any religion.

So I do not believe in the trans ideology. The violence only exists from their side as they try to force people into believing something they don't.

They have somehow assigned themselves with race and have put not following the trans ideology on the level as being a hard-core racist. The rage that comes from them shows that they are not oppressed at all.

Why do they always start clapping like seals? Reminds me of the angry new York man with his moobs out clapping at woman

It's performative and a physical display but none contact. Demonstrating a slap without the legal consequences of doing so. Also, has connotations of talking to a child and holding their attention.

It reminds me of a quote from Robert E. Howard's Conan novels where Conan says something along the lines of: "The civilized man is ruder than the barbarian. Because the barbarian knows his rudeness might lead to his skull being split."

Its a world of perpetual children where you can be as rude as you like because you know teacher can be called for when needed.

Funny. When I had to report a particularly nasty employee (completely different situation admittedly) I was told by the employer I had zero rights to know anything about the outcome of my complaint as it was "data protection, you see".

OldGardinia · 08/05/2023 15:55

"Non-contact," not "none contact". I am ashamed.

I might also elaborate on the clapping being performative. It's the person supplying their own audience reaction and also a mental translation of someone getting 👏on a tweet.

So several reasons, really. But no good ones.

Lord help us all if he was a shift manager!

DustyLee123 · 08/05/2023 15:59

So the trans woman was using misogyny. Ironic.

whynotwhatknot · 08/05/2023 16:07

bloody nutter-i dont care what she called him yes him-hes attacking people

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/05/2023 16:09

SerendipityJane · 08/05/2023 14:49

Maybe there's a transphobic "look" ?

I wasn't there so don't know, but I suspect the woman customer has complained about or maybe even just referred to the trans person to their colleague. The reaction is off the scale if it was a simple reference to them. This person does themselves no favours by being so aggressive, using a misogynistic term and then being violent.

What gets me about the whole TRA thing is that some transwomen seem to be so threatened by women they behave so openly misogynistically towards them.

Time to reclaim Karen too and stop it's use as a term of abuse.

The franchisee

Southampton-based 23.5 Degrees plans to have 300 stores by 2027.

Its franchised stores locally include those at Hedge End, Southampton’s Town Quay, Havant and St Leonards near Ringwood, and it reached 80 sites with the opening of its branch in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, last week.

23.5 Degrees managing director Mark Hepburn said: “The last year has been challenging but opening this Starbucks store demonstrates our commitment to our ambitious growth plans

As I thought, it's a franchise. So not directly employed by Starbucks.

Bad news for the franchisee if other companies they are involved with start scouring the area. As the pub with the dolls found out recently, big companies are very skittish about bad publicity.

GiantKitten · 08/05/2023 16:13

Somebody posted this on one of the twitter threads about Starbucks.
Most apt!
