It’s not clear what the customer said, it’s presumed she misgenders the employee as he calls her transphobic. He calls her Karen and then either grabs the phone or the person who’s filming.

And you have victim shamed a women who was being intimidated and abused by saying ‘she was threatening’. Because she raised her voice?

If a person cannot deal with customers who complain, they are in the wrong line of work. If their reaction is to intimidate and abuse a women, they are in the wrong. This was not proportionate in any way.

Enough "both sides" shit.

Great service, 'though.

Excellent "air conditioning", too, it seems. Grin

She just had a moan about not being able to pay cash. And then paid by card. It was hardly even a complaint and she didn’t bring it to the manager.

Not even a complaint, probably - more comment.

White women are the least dangerous group to black women - black men, white men, other black women are all responsible for far more violence towards them. So it's interesting that so much venom is directed at middle aged white women, and not the men who actually commit 98% of the violence against black women
Least dangerous? I'd argue that they can be just as dangerous - if you're not familiar with the term "white woman's tears" maybe read up on it?
Emmet Till's accuser being one , and a more recent case being Amy Cooper, the Central Park case a few years back.
Bit off to minimise as least dangerous.
I say this as a white middle aged woman myself.

KalimbaMoon · 11/05/2023 14:59

Vanessa did nothing wrong. It’s not up to her to make soothing noises to calm someone down who’s insulting and physically intimidating her.

I bet Vanessa isn’t the only customer who’s not impressed about the card-only payment thing. Not very “inclusive” of Starbucks but it was a minor grumble.

This tall, aggressive person reacted completely out of proportion, intimidating a middle-aged woman for no good reason. That’s not customer care or conflict management. Vanessa was not aggressive back, she was assertive - and good for her. Many people would have crumbled, too embarrassed and frightened to defend themselves.

I think the manager had a chip on their shoulder and was spoiling for a scrap with a perceived t3rf so they could brag about it on social media afterwards.

Xenia · 11/05/2023 14:59

Middle aged women of any colour tend to be the bed rock of most societies and families and bind and keep people together. They are the unsung heroes, wise, mature and often are peacekeepers. It is the same if you go to any country from Iraq to Zimbabwe, New York to London.

You're not very good at reading. 'Least dangerous' does not mean 'not dangerous at all'. This is a comparison of scale.
Why is logic such hard work for you?

The post I quoted says least dangerous.
Did I say anything about not dangerous at all?
What are you on about?

Definitely. But that rage was pretty extreme. Mental illness and hormonal imbalances/use of wrong sex hormones quite likely to be factors too. I actually hope that person gets some appropriate help because going through life that angry is going to be very bad for their health and for other people’s safety.

waterlego · 11/05/2023 15:11

But yeah, he was looking forward to bragging about putting a Karen in her place. I imagine he is now actually hiding in his basement afraid to surface. Will he realise he is to blame? Doubtful.

You said 'just as dangerous' which is plainly untrue.

Never mind, I don't have the time or the energy to play chess with a pigeon.

Anecdata do not equal evidence.

For evidence, look at crime rates: women do not figure prominently in violent crime rates and most violent crimes do not cross racial lines.

Unless you're of the mindset that only ever physical attacks count, and if so you do you.

It's just more whataboutery to distract from the appalling behaviour of a man towards a woman.

TRAs always do the ‘both sides’ nonsense when males are aggressive

A lot of people do the ‘two sides’ thing when their female family member or friend has clear bruises as a result of male violence. Many a dv victim has become further isolated and traumatised by people in their sphere not wanting to ‘take sides’ as if that somehow makes them magnanimous

waterlego · 11/05/2023 15:40

@Katherine1985. So true,l. If I hadn’t heard ‘two sides’ first hand, I would never have believed it. When a good friend was punched in the face by her husband, knocking her out cold and leaving her with a black eye and a fractured cheekbone, more than one person asked questions like ‘What happened in the lead up to it?’ ‘What had she said to him?’ and made comments like ‘Not saying it’s ok, but I imagine she’s quite hard to live with’.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

DevilinaCardigan · 11/05/2023 15:51

Wow who knew white womens tears were so effective! I’m sure most of us white women on this thread would be willing to shed some tears if it stopped violence against women and children.

Oh wait it doesn’t work that way- men only use white womens tears as an excuse when they want to be violent toward someone anyway.

Tears don’t kill people, violent men kill people.

I think the manager had been emboldened by all the crap that is spat out by hardline activists … this meant he felt entitled to victimhood as one of society’s “most marginalised”. Probably didn’t even see the “Karen” as a fellow human being, just a nasty oppressor. Ironic when you consider just how powerful the trans lobby is. Businesses, health providers, sporting bodies and lawmakers prioritise trans demands above women’s rights, so who’s the most oppressed?
